how do i dry pillows?

minimammoth · 15/10/2010 16:43

I dry pillows on the line.
Hands out more cake. Don't know whether I can justify a Kenwood. DH doesn't eat wheat so my baking is curbed, especially as I would just eat the lot and then be MASsive.

ImASlatternGetMeOutOfHere · 15/10/2010 17:05

What ever you do don't get the cheap Vivitar ones. Not worth the money, even if they are cheap. Difficult to use for little ones as well.

THESE ONES

ImASlatternGetMeOutOfHere · 15/10/2010 17:10

Mini two of my children are GI and 1 is dairy intollerant as well and I make cakes and biscuits for them. My Panasonic Breadmaker has a GF setting as well and makes some lovely bread for the boys.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 15/10/2010 17:11

I have never washed and dried a pillow successfully, they always go all lumpy. I know it is a major extravagance but we buy new ones every year so that they are nice and plump and not lumpy and full of dead skin. I am a bit OCD about bedding though, I will admit. Blush

ImASlatternGetMeOutOfHere · 15/10/2010 17:12

That was meant to say ....and biscuits for them in my Kenwood.

mumof2rugrats · 15/10/2010 17:30

i dried it in the tumble and its ok thank you all anyway

I fancy a Kenwood but i know i would never justify the cost, i bought myself a £15ish handheld thingie with the 2 twirly bits and that works well.

Mini - i think you forgot choc chips in there Grin

I also have never successfully washed a pillow. But it does raise the question, even if you are not OCD, how long should a pillow last? We have 2 extra long ones on our big bed and i think they could maybe do with being replaced but probably ££ and i don't know if i'm being OTT about it, they are 4.5yrs old and slept on every night, though they are the underneath ones. As for the tops ones, i shudder to think, they shd def be replaced!

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 15/10/2010 17:35

JKS - by the time a pillow is 2 years old, 10% of it's weight is dead skin.

The underneath ones are probably ok to go for longer I would think if they haven't got your heads directly on them at night?

JustKeepSwimming · 15/10/2010 17:39

YUCK!!! Right i should definitely do a pillow audit then and get some new ones.

The big ones are underneath so not with our heads on at all really. Just 'support' for the top ones.

JustKeepSwimming · 15/10/2010 17:40

Oh and somewhere along the way i picked up the 'trainer' test; bend pillow in half, put shoe/trainer on pillow.
If pillow kicks shoe off it then it's ok, if not, then it's dead.

I really shudder to think how old some pillows must be....

minimammoth · 15/10/2010 18:30

Oh DearBlush am a true slattern where pillows are concerned, although I do wash them. some are yeeeears old. Trying not to think of skin and mites etc.
Hums and goes back to cake.
Imaslattern I have a breadmaker that does do GF, just too idle to do it often. Do you have a good recipe that isn't a bought mix?
DH is diabetic as well. In fact we are both quirky eaters. Him no wheat, sugar, me no potatoes, tomatoes, peppars etc.plus goat milk only.

anonymousbrainsnatcher · 15/10/2010 19:41

I do wash my pillows in rotation, but possibly not often enough. I suspect this trail of threads may mean a couple get washed this weekend!!!!!!

They have plenty of PING in them, I just don't want SKIN in them. Bleugh.

I do not own a mixer, other than my hand held Braun which I have had for 12 years and which I love.

One of those full blown ones, aren't they a complete pain to wash up etc? I've never actually tried, just imagined, so I could be talking utter bollox!

anonymousbrainsnatcher · 16/10/2010 07:39

Morning!!

Ok, so I have a pile of pillows read to wash... all this talk yesterday and mine are up for treatment this weekend. Luckily, with it being so damned cold and all, my Rayburn will be on all weekend, so that will help them dry!

Oh dear, i fear my premonition was correct. DD has drawn on the cupboard doors (i shouted, then made her clean it off - did quite a good job actually, maybe i am missing a trick here?) Then when i look at my cakes, realise something has gone quite wrong, only one has risen, the other is like a frisbee and both are hard and dry Confused Have now cut circles out of the good one and let DD decorate them. It was for my friend as a leaving present.

F is now asleep though and DD s now sat at the table painting quietly, time to crack on. Anyone about?

I am a bit slow, sorry, but do we have another family connection? Alice and Rugrats??? Or is that "sister" in the "sisterhood" meaning of the word?

Just about to take DC out for a few hours - they are bouncing off the walls. Confused. Where do they get the energy?

Anyway, will check in later. Alice - hope the day goes ok! Ditto re the tumble dryer - my bedding is in there right now!! Though, am turning on the Rayburn when we get back from our outing so can only be guilt free until about 2pm today Grin.
