August's 1st Anniversary Fledgling Flyers: It's our party and we'll fly if we want to.

elliepac · 31/07/2010 12:28

Welcome to the August edition of the Fledgling Flyers where we are going to attempt to restore order in our houses, chatting as we go.

This month is officially our first birthday so we are celebrating sink shining and swishing and swiping in style!

Here you can do any of the following:

  • repeat or start baby steps (again!)
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone

or

  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering

For those who are curious, these are the Babysteps which we all hope will restore order in our homes and make our lives a little bit easier with lots of support (and chat, and wine, and a little more chat )

So please come and join us for our birthday party, old and new, from August 1st.

I am very pleased - I bought myself a new mop. Now I can wash the kitchen floor without going on my hands and knees Grin It's sad when a new mop is the
highlight of your day though Wink

Very impressed with all the progress that's being made by you all.......I'm really only treading water til I get the house to myself and can sort it the way I want! But I WILL clean the kitchen floor and sort out DD1's room this weekend - you can't see the floor at the moment and I think she's too overwhelmed by it all to start so a helping hand before she comes home would be good, I think. She offered to pay DD2 to do it but DD2 took one look and refused point blank. Somehow I doubt she'll pay me :)

Toffeefudgecake · 27/08/2010 20:33

The boys are in bed, the packing is almost done and we are all going to bed early, ready for a dawn start in the morning.

No missions for me next week - apart from my own mission of enjoying myself eating French food and drinking French wine.

This is our first holiday abroad for six years! Am feeling very excited now!

Smile Smile Smile

Au revoir.

MuckyDucky · 28/08/2010 01:02

Mrs B - i am not even really treading water flying wise. Besides you have had life get in the way.

Toffee fudge enjoy your holiday.

Oh and as for the rest of you I am a figment of your imagination I was safely tucked into bed and fast asleep hours ago. Wink

training was ok but nothing special wasnt really feeling it and the sharp blades knocked my balance. Lots of laughs and MD's after.

BobLoblaw · 28/08/2010 07:35

Morning :)

I had great plans for today, but the sun is shining so we're going to the beach. I will do my s&s, a load of washing and hang out, and hoover around when we get back. I need to throw some kind of picnic together now.

Hope everyone has a nice day.

Nettiespagetti · 28/08/2010 07:37

Grr iPhone

missb my lists are only there to make me feel like I have accomplished something. Not doing bad with some babysteps but I need to get my head moving again around missions! Still got lotsa decluttering to do and house to decorate.

mucky love your Ferrari song Grin made me chuckle out loud this morning

Right dd is shouting that she wants to get dressed so better stricken whilst iron is hot!

PositiveAttitude · 28/08/2010 08:15

Good morning everyone Grin

Not too sure about the "capable" hands mentioned, but I will post the steps and probably keep very quiet about the lack amount of flying being done here. Wink

here's the babystep today
No mission as its the weekend so family time is in order!!

Right, so Ellie and Toffee are off enjoying themselves.

We do need to start putting on some thinking caps to get a new name for September thread, so come on everyone, lets have a good think before Ellie returns. Smile - I do believe that SC was going to crawl out of the woodwork and be our leader for September, so we should expect a visit from her soon

Firstly a big welcome to Bob. It looks as if you have made a fantastic start with the babysteps. Dont let all the chatter put you off here. We are a friendly bunch and everyone is very welcome, so just jump in. On the first of September we open a new thread and all decamp there to start the new month. If you dont want to scroll through all the posts each day, the roundup is an overview of what people are up to. Ellie's is always very amusing, mine is just basic info. Blush!!!

Nettie That is the most unbelievable inventive excuse for having to watch Big Brother I have heard. I have not watched one minute of this one, although have been hooked in the past!!

Brilliant news about your lump Ihate. I am impressed that it is all done within the same day. I had one a few years back and the wait was the worst bit!! Have a good weekend of celebration.

Linzer I am Shock Shock Shock at the sort of American magazines that you have been reading!!! Warming towels in tumble dryer!!! Do people actually do that??? I just hope DH NEVER reads this, it may give him ideas!!

NameChange welcome back to your warm bed after your freezing camping trip. Looks as if you have a mountain of laundry to conquer, but conquer you will!! Hope you have thawed out nicely now. Smile

mucky are you auditioning for a car advert?
DOnt forget to ring the dentist today. Are they open today? If not, it wont be til Tuesday. Hope you are not struggling. Sad

MissB Hi!!! I see you are still overcome with those fat fairy feelings. Oh new mops are just so exciting!! Come and mop my floor if you like, just to extend the excitement. Wink It sounds as if you are doing brilliantly, but dont expect too much of yourself. Make sure you have a pamper time for YOU!!

Right, Lovely day here so far, DH is bike stroking with avengance still on the training programme for this long road race. So, am I going to do a load of clearing, cleaning, sorting and fat fairying??? Or am I going to sneak back to bed and have a half hour with a good book??? I will leave you to guess, but let me just say I ma at a really good bit of my book.........

Later, when I have got up again, I need to:
Shopping for dinner party tomorrow
Ironing for DH going away fro work on Monday
Get suitcase down from store cupboard for DH
Cook curry for tonight
bake chocolate cake for tea
Oh dear, I cant think about anything else now, book is calling.......

Have a good day everyone Grin

PositiveAttitude · 28/08/2010 08:17

Flippin heck, you are all up early and it has taken me so long to type all that post that you are up and about and making me feel guilty!! Blush

MuckyDucky · 28/08/2010 10:11

nah still in pjs. not getting dressed straight away this morning. need coffee and breakfast first.

PA - it started off as pizza hut song thing becuase we decamped to MD's after training. I think we were a bit high spirited last night as it became the ford escort version. It sticks in your brain in the most horrid way Confused

Right today's list.
Put ds' clothes away. he got sent home with virstually 2 wks washing done Shock
hang blanket out to dry

Its a long list but nothing that is impossible. I think that wizzing around ikea whilst ds plays though will have to be the plan. He likes to take hours going around

MuckyDucky · 28/08/2010 16:41

its a bank holiday weekend how could i forget its a bank holiday weekend?

Ikea was hell busy. Ds has been his usual delight of the past few days Hmm and is banished to his bedroom to sort his own clothes out. [mean mummy emoticon]

I think I am on strike and will do ds' room another time. I am not doing it next weekend.

missbennett · 28/08/2010 21:10

Well I'm doing better today! Actually managed a bit of a room rescue and hoovered downstairs and the hall, stairs and landing. :) Now, does this count as cleaning the kitchen floor? The dog spilt his water bowl (deliberately in my opinion!) so I mopped round with that. Environmentally friendly as well :)

And, best of all, we managed to get school shoes without a row and without spending a fortune Shock Grin

So I am counting today a success!

Mucky you are very brave to tackle Ikea on a BH weekend! But i now have the Pizza Hut song going round.....and round.....and round....Reminds me of Guide camp!
bob hope you enjoyed the beach - I'm very Envy !
PA hope you enjoyed the book! What are you reading? I'm half way through a Val McDermid, which I'm enjoying. My pile of 'to read' is huge now - I deal with stress by either eating or buying books - and I'm trying to keep the eating in check so am currently unable to pass charity shops/Waterstones/Smiths without a quick look and invariably a purchase (or three) Blush

Right, off to see if there's anything good on TV........tomorrow am taking DD2 to Camden and will try to return without her having too many piercings Wink

LinzerTorte · 29/08/2010 05:17

Just popping in to say a quick hello and goodbye - for this month, at any rate - as we're going away for a few days. I can't believe it will be September by the time we come back on Thursday. Summer already seems to have deserted us, however - it poured with rain all day yesterday (which was a good excuse for a trip to M&S in Bratislava Smile). We're going to southern Austria, which is generally supposed to have better weather than the rest of the country, but still - 13 degrees (forecast for tomorrow) when you're used to getting on for 30 degrees is going to feel cold, brr...

ellie Thanks for being such a fabulous leader again this month and for all your entertaining round-ups. And thanks to PA for stepping in so ably too! (They were quite normal magazines, honest - just no sense of environmental awareness! Mind you, this was 7-9 years ago; maybe things have moved on since then.)

Must get on with some last-minute packing... See you all next month! Smile

Nettiespagetti · 29/08/2010 07:45

PositiveAttitude · 29/08/2010 09:22

Mega quicky because I am already up to my eyeballs in cooking. Dinner party has turned into a rather larger lunch, so time is now against me and I am catering for 5 more people than I thought were coming for "dinner", so I am adapting lots of things and trying to look like more food than it really is. Hmm

babystep is a little bit of pampering, which I think we can all manage and all deserve today!! Smile

Quick mention and a wave to Linzer who is off again. See you Thursday.

MissB the book is "the thirteenth tale" by Diane Setterfield. Got it for a book club thing, nearly gave up as it was so atrocious, stuck with it and it got really good, now nearing the end and I have a sinking feeling it is going to turn out to be one of those absolutely stupid endings that are so off the wall it is just plain daft!!!

Sorry not to mention everyone else, Will trya and get on tonight, if i ma not collapsed in a heap!!!

Have a good day everyone, Grin

MuckyDucky · 29/08/2010 11:56

ds is in a more settled mood. but it is going to take time, not helped byt the fact that he has a visit to his dad' next week. Ah well, i am going to a craft show. it will be fine. Hmm

Have a lovely time linzer see you in september.

PA I hate books like that. Havent hade much chance to read recently but hope to when things calm done.

Mrs B That song is starting to drive me mad.

List for today.
Finish sewing project
Find camera
Take pictures of finished or plain progress pictures
Upload onto profile for those who are interested.

Not kill ds. Anyone else had the hitting cos cant get own way. And end up feeling; WHy did you ask if you knew you werent going to like the answer phase? Angry
Tackle ds' behaviour againSad

namechange100 · 29/08/2010 11:58

Hello

BobLoblaw · 29/08/2010 18:38

I have done my routines, watched the f1 and went out for lunch today, that seems to be it. I keep trying to remind myself that on a day before I started attempting to fly everywhere would be much worse. I am going to try to clear a couple of hot spots this evening.

Hope the meal went smoothly PositiveAttitude :)

MrsDinky · 29/08/2010 20:57

.

The Dinky family have just got back from a week in Scotland, remarkably the weather was better than it was down here, we have not returned to broken boilers, defrosted freezers etc this time so all is well apart from the usual mountain of unpacking.

Have scanned the thread, will try and catch up properly later in the week,

Nettiespagetti · 29/08/2010 21:51

I'm in bed ament I a good girl [smug emotion] actually it's cos I feel like pooh but I'm still in bed. Had busy old day today, my list went like this:-

Change bedsheets master bed-done

Try to regain temp control of master suite, remove boxes of screws old wardrobe doors etc-started
Wrap present for dc friend ready for posting-nope
Also cleaned appliances, took scrubbing brush to congealed mass of food Blush behind plinths in kitchen
Wm/dw and moaned at dh about his lack of follow up on his monstrous washing pile now clogging up my kitchen and my next batch if washing
Did rocket ship making with ds
Kitted both dc in wet weather gear and allowed them to jump in every muddy puddle on way to inlaws (had to draw line at sitting in puddles dd wanted to do) Grin

I'm going to go to sleep now and hope dh takes pity on me and does dc breakfast in the morning.

Hope everyone had a lovely night see you in the last day of august Grin

PositiveAttitude · 30/08/2010 07:54

Good morning everyone Grin.

Right, firstly, here's the babystep. A good one, for being prepared and one that I really should get myself doing

and the missios - we seem to be in a million rooms and areas this week, but small jobs, by the look of it. Hmm

Not much activity over the weekend, so a quick round up:

DEM Hope your DS settles soon. Back to school shortly, so maybe the "normal" routine will help???

Namechange and Bob - we all take our foot off the accelerator for the weekend, so dont feel bad. A new thread will be started tomorrow and a link from thisone to the next will be posted, so dont get lost, will you. Smile

Welcome home MrsD. Glad you had a good holiday and an uneventful return home! Wink

Nettie OH dear, hope you feel better this morning after your early night.

Finished the book this morning and it was not as bad as I had anticipated, so I am glad I persevered.
Lunch yesterday went ok. We had enough food, which is always my biggest worry. Nice time with lovely friends, what more could you want?

So, come on....we need some ideas for the new name!!!! We only have 24 hours and we will ned to be getting the new thread up and started in time for first thing on Wednesday. I do think SC will be making a grand entrance. Hopefully some lurkers may come and join in......You would be very welcome, we dont bite!! Grin And others may return after the summer holidays and all that!!

Today I have to pack up DHs stuff for him heading off to Winchester this afternoon, to return on Friday. Sad
Lots of ironing and more washing.

Hope you all have agood bank holiday. Sun is shining here, hope it is wherever you are Smile

MrsDinky · 30/08/2010 09:49

Morning all,

2nd load of washing on, sun is shining, DS is happily watching Sky Sports (his current obsession is football). DH and DD are still asleep.......

Today's list
More washing and drying
Finish unpacking (did most of it yesterday)
Go to Sainsburys
Prise DS away from the telly and go out somewhere.

Sorry, no inspiration for new names for the thread! I've lost track a bit, but am happy to take my turn posting babysteps etc next month if needed, as I must be due a turn by now.

missbennett · 30/08/2010 10:14

Hello! I am enjoying a quiet and late breakfast before anyone else appears!

Had a lovely day yesterday with DD2 but we must have walked about a million miles Shock. She didn't get any piercings - had wanted one done and thought Camden the place to go, but decided after some research that it was (a) too expensive and (b) the places looked a bit scary!!! So she bought a really pretty necklace instead and we did research into the size of Doc Marten boots she needs as that is her choice of birthday present :)

mucky am sure the DS behaviour will improve - most things are indeed 'a phase' and each one brings new challenges Hmm - just hang on in there - though it's easier said than done, I know.

pa book sounds interesting. I finished my thriller and have started 'The American Wife' - so far so good but not very far in!

Right, I need to stop prevaricating and go and tackle DD1's bedroom before she comes home today. I want to be able to see the floor Shock

No inspiration for new thread - flying into the autumn term or some such Hmm

Nettiespagetti · 30/08/2010 13:37

Good afternoon

I have been hotspotting and have dealt with 5 hotspots in living room needless to say not in 15 m, rest of house is messy but hoping hotspots will make it appear tidied in generally.
Dw/wm
Bed made
Master bed floor hoovered.

Still to
Wrap dc friend present ready for posting
Make lamb hotpot and hope enough lamb to go round three as I ordered the wrong size

Cancelled trip to village fete as ds behaviour been awful this morning. Probably just as well as Ds and dd bit under the weather. Hoping they both go for nap this afternoon.

Just in case I don't get a chance later thank you pa and Ellie for seeing us through august. I have flown and not cried about it (too much) Grin

MuckyDucky · 30/08/2010 13:55

Afternoon. just eaten breakfast. having an off day. too many late nights. not skating tonight.
However currently in the middle of emptying ds' room. He is doing the work. I figured out if i dont do it this weekend it just wont get done.

missbennett · 30/08/2010 14:04

Hooray! I have found DD1's bedroom floor GrinI have folded up clothes, stacked papers and changed the sheets. Now looks a bit more inviting to return to :)

The first of the THREE loads of washing I unearthed is on the line and I'm about to collect her and her friend from the station. So looking forward to having her home in spite of the room chaos! It'll be the first time in two and a half weeks I've had them both home - I'm sure by a bit later I'll be looking forward to some peace but will be good to be together!

PS the family togetherness won't last - I have rose-tinted specs on at the mo Wink
