Welcome to the August edition of the Fledgling Flyers where we are going to attempt to restore order in our houses, chatting as we go.

This month is officially our first birthday so we are celebrating sink shining and swishing and swiping in style!

Here you can do any of the following:

  • repeat or start baby steps (again!)
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone

or

  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering

For those who are curious, these are the Babysteps which we all hope will restore order in our homes and make our lives a little bit easier with lots of support (and chat, and wine, and a little more chat )

So please come and join us for our birthday party, old and new, from August 1st.

Ihatecobwebs - thought of you today. Hope all went well at the drs.

DEM - sorry you are feeling dreadful and have so much to do. Hope you achieved what you wanted and were then able to collapse into bed.

Nettie - sounds as if you had a lovely family day out Smile.

Linzer - hope you are settling back into your home routine again.

Namechange - having a hard day?

PA - hope you got everything done.

Felt a bit rough this morning, but it seemed to wear off. Out for lunch with family today, then took DS2 to the beach this afternoon. It really is lousy weather here, but at least it was warm today.

DH tells me he has been de-cluttering at home - he took eight bags to the dump today Smile, but says the house doesn't look any less cluttered Sad. It must have helped though. It makes me nervous when he tidies up because he always manages to throw away something important.

Taking the boys out for a trip to a castle tomorrow, regardless of the weather.

Waves to all.

DidEinsteinsMum · 17/08/2010 07:20

either doing really well on the dressing to the shoes and getting up straight away or doing badly at the early bedtime babystep. not slept at all, and now in pain. Sodding conspiracy no one in the house and phones all turned off, could have had a lie in. Sad

Hope yesterday went ok Ihate

PositiveAttitude · 17/08/2010 08:00

Oh dear DEM What ahs happened?

Ihatecobwebs Hope you are ok.

Right, quick flying post today as I ma already at work, just finishing job number one, then on to number 2!!

Babystep for today - your favourite one DEM!!!!! SET A BEDTIME AND STICK TO IT!!

and the mission for today....

Collected my locusts DCs yesterday. DS appears to have grown at least 2 inches in a week Sad and they both came back absolutely knackered, but also starving!! I had completed my weekly shop, which as soon as they had finished was reduced to a one day shop!! Hmm
Paid work at home yesterday has been completed, just need checking over today, which wont take long, although it took twice as long as i had anticipated yesterday!
Rabbits ahve decided to burrow to Australia. I panicked that one had been got at by a fox because she ahd disappeared, when we moved the hutch I discover a "well" with 2 shiny eyes popping out looking at me. They have seriously dug down to our foundations!!

Namechange - Hope you get BT and Sky sorted. I have heard that BT can be awful, but never personally had a problem. You were so pleased with your deals, too. Let us know how it all goes!

Linzer well done on getting so much done so quickly. In our house the suitcases have made it out of the car, which is as much as i could have hoped for. Will nag ask for step 2 today!! ie: contents tipped into washbin!

Toffee Shock at DH de-cluttering - here that woiuld send me into instant panic mode, so hope he hasnt got rid of anything important.

And Nettie, I'm pleased that the plasterer experience is going well. lots of painting and decorating for you next then???

Have agood day everyone and Waves to everyone lurking or on holiday.
AD - where are you?????? Hope life is ok. Smile

LinzerTorte · 17/08/2010 10:32

Morning all,

It's very quiet here this morning as both DDs stayed overnight at friends' houses last night - DD1 was at the neighbours' and I still haven't seen anything of her. So I just had to take DS to kindergarten (DD2 is there too), met up with a friend afterwards for coffee and have actually had a bit of time to get on with things since I got back.

Today's list:
Morning routine almost done (just need to do a 5 min room rescue)
Bathroom mission done
Office mission done
15 min decluttering in office
Buy school stuff for DDs
Label school stuff (personalised pencils have just arrived at my parents', so will have to be sent on - that should leave me with only several hundred things to label. At least the 20 or 30 exercise books don't need to be labelled, although I have the feeling that the covers [which are bought separately] do).

PA I must confess that I cheated on the unpacking by leaving virtually all our clothes at my parents' (anything slightly too old/too small ends up there so that I don't need to worry about packing clothes when we visit). Most of yesterday's washing was caused by DS wetting the bed (if it was just the sheet that got wet I wouldn't mind, but no - the pillow, duvet, duvet cover, mattress protector and pillowcase inevitably all have to be washed too).

DEM Hope you're OK and can rest a little today.

Nettie Sounds like you had a lovely day yesterday. New clothes are always good, even if they're for the DC and not for you. Smile

Toffee Glad to hear you're feeling better; hope you enjoy your trip out today.

Neighbour has just phoned to ask if DD1 can stay for lunch, so I suppose I shall just have to endure the peace and quiet for a bit longer. Wink

Have a good day everyone!

DidEinsteinsMum · 17/08/2010 15:00

Yep My bad knee is playing up badly. it happens on and off. last night was the worst it has been in ages. Had 4 hours sleep earlier. feel better but struggling. The glass tiles are a bugger to cut.

Nettiespagetti · 17/08/2010 16:34

Hello good morning or is it afternoon.

Today so far wm backlogged due to hundred of washing waiting in log jam for tumble dryer.
Been to post office when ds asked to send postcard to Austria and can he go to Grin
been to stay and play
Lunch and blackberry apple crumble made
Eh bit of nap Blush
plasterer finished it's now drying and im wistfully staring at brochures for wardrobes wishing dh was not such a stickler for nothing on finance as keep seeing fab deals everywhere.
Chilli cooked just about to serve
Been to hardware store but no decent brooms or extended dustpan and brushes
Done birthday invites for handing out at nursery tomorrow.

Still to move bike seat upon ds bike
Gym
Bathe dc and bed

Be back later x

Toffeefudgecake · 17/08/2010 16:53

DEM - do you know what's wrong with your knee? Also have a bad knee and after hobbling around on it for a year, I finally had it checked (that was the MMR scan I mentioned a while back). Turns out I have a torn cartillage and need an operation. So it is definitely worth getting it checked, unless you've done this already.

Have been to the castle. DS2 very whiny today, which was wearing. Both boys were bored by the castle and started playing up, so I was glad to get them back on the bus home again. Still, at least we had an outing, even if it wasn't the most successful.

Tomorrow, the local school is holding a 'fun day' round the corner, with a bouncy castle. I think that's the sort of castle the boys will enjoy.

Am doing bugger all in terms of flying. Mum has a cleaner, so I don't even need to help her with hoovering. I didn't bother to read today's mission (rebel).

DH emailed me to say he had put the rubbish out. Round of applause please Smile!

namechange100 · 17/08/2010 17:18

I have broke the FLY pain barrier! Be back soon.

LinzerTorte · 17/08/2010 17:22

Well, I managed to get everything on my list done apart from the back-to-school shopping - we ended up staying at home this afternoon as our neighbours asked if I could look after their three DDs while they signed the contract on their house.

It turned out to be a good thing that we didn't go out in the end. Apart from the fact that it's been raining on and off all afternoon, some work arrived (due tomorrow) so I was able to get most of it done while the DC played.

Nettie DS would love it if your DS could come and play. Grin

Toffeefudgecake · 17/08/2010 18:01

Ihatecobwebs - please let us know how it went at the drs.

DidEinsteinsMum · 17/08/2010 19:45

toffee Not really, not even the docs really know why it can be so bad. Their best educated guess it tendons that too long, combined with tight muscles that pull the knee cap out of place allowing the back of it to rub causing fluid build up in the joint which causes it to swell and be really painful. It always hurts just sometimes it is far far worse then others. It is in one of those patches where i would beg the doc for physio. But as i complained about the last physio being incompetant (i have had enough physios to know what she was doing wasnt right) I cant reall do that this time, Cant afford to go private. It will get better eventually. In the mean time I have pain killers, freeze spray, a pink coloured ice pack, a hot water bottle, a cushion, and support bandage and witch hazel (which i thought spent bad until i smelt the freeze spray!)

had 4 hours sleep earlier and cut most of the tiles for the window sil. just a few more to cut, then clear up tile fragments, hoover, move tiles, mix up adhesive and stick the buggers down.

Toffeefudgecake · 17/08/2010 20:04

DEM~ That sounds awful. I'm so sorry. Not fair. I hope it feels better soon.

DidEinsteinsMum · 17/08/2010 20:20

Hey - toffee no worries it has been like this since i was 10yo. I am used to it. Just forget how bad the very very bad days can be. SO get taken by surprise sometimes. It will settle in a few days/week. But not letting it stop me back training tomo Grin I do have a terrible weakness for icehockey boys Blush

Ihatecobwebs · 17/08/2010 22:15

Hi

Got the drs appt yesterday - phoned at 8.05, and was given the 8.30 appt - cue rushing round, shipping DS to mother's and dashing to surgery. GP checked it out, agreed it was a lump and referred me to Breast Clinic - max 2 week wait time. Today I booked the appt with the Clinic - for next Thursday. BTW GP thinks very unlikely to be cancerous, probably a cyst, but as I do not have a history of cysts, is sending me to the clinic to make sure. Apparently the pain is a "good" sign, as nasty lumps are usually pain free.

Thanks for your support. I admit that when I found it, I wanted to pretend that I hadn't, so I didn't have to think about it. Unfortunately I know from experiences of people close to me that it won't go away just because you don't do anything about it.

Ihatecobwebs · 17/08/2010 22:23

Today's completed list:

Fed dog - have swapped DS for mother's dog for the week
Made bed (not when I first got up - have to wait for DH - so do it when he has gone to work)
Walked dog
Vacuumed, dusted and polished in living room
Cleaned DS room - removed cobwebs (regular occupation as we live in a barn conversion), dusted and polished furniture and door, put toys away, vacuumed
Booked hospital appointment
Put dry laundry away
Sent work emails
Worked on allotment for couple of hours
Collected blackberries
Sorted and froze blackberries
Collected veg from allotment and garden - sorted and froze some
Salted onions
Made tea - sausage and veg bake, with courgettes, and I still have one left in the veg box
Washed up and shined sink

Washing DS sleeping bag was postponed due to weather - really need a fine day for getting it dry on the line.

MiniMarmite · 17/08/2010 22:42

Glad you were seen quickly Ihatecobwebs and keeping everything crossed for you x

DidEinsteinsMum · 17/08/2010 23:15

What mimimarmite said. must try to sleep. night.

TerritorialMosquito · 17/08/2010 23:44

i've found you again! just wanted to mark my place and let you know I Am Not Lost.

i'll be back soon, promise. am having Visitor Issues which largely revolve around Domestic Duties, and so i'm purposely avoiding the flying thread as my venting would kill off the thread. Blush nothing personal, just internal disputes!

one week to go. one week to go. one week to go.

(but quick hug for ihate. hope everything is ok x)

Toffeefudgecake · 17/08/2010 23:52

Ihatecobwebs - glad to hear you are getting the lump checked so quickly. Of course it is most likely to be a cyst, particularly if it is painful, but you are being very sensible not to waste any time in getting it checked. Keep us posted.

Hi Territorial.

PositiveAttitude · 18/08/2010 08:42

I have just done babystep and Kelly's mission was kinda done when I did all stuff last week.

I was very proud, after waiting for a very late DH to turn up to his birthday do last night (as he locked himself in stairwell at work Grin Grin Grin) to be able to respond to his request of sewing up a hem on trouser leg Hmm . This is because of FLYING a) I knew I had some hemming web stuff and b) I knew where it was! I did secure a bottle of wine in return which he had to pop out for!!

FLYING does work!

I feel I've done well today to get the list done and not too much, a lot of phone calls etc. I am off to collect DH suit and then take DS swimming. Smile

M
