August's 1st Anniversary Fledgling Flyers: It's our party and we'll fly if we want to.

Welcome to the August edition of the Fledgling Flyers where we are going to attempt to restore order in our houses, chatting as we go.

This month is officially our first birthday so we are celebrating sink shining and swishing and swiping in style!

Here you can do any of the following:

  • repeat or start baby steps (again!)
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone

or

  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering

For those who are curious, these are the Babysteps which we all hope will restore order in our homes and make our lives a little bit easier with lots of support (and chat, and wine, and a little more chat )

So please come and join us for our birthday party, old and new, from August 1st.

morning. yes i know it is technically afternoon but i am only justup dressed and breakfasted and about to drink my first cup of coffee for the day.

Just waiting for ds to get back off hols to life the potatoes. he helped grow them and loves to scrable them out of the upended potatoe bag. Homegrown courgettess and runner beans for tea tonight. yum.

right the list. its the stuff from yesterday and other stuff added.

Important phone calls
Ironing
Fold the newly washed clothes
Put clean washing away
Tidy lounge
15mins on dining room
15mins in utility room
Send broken part back to Lego

looking at the state of the lounge i had it sparkling last week sob it is going to take me most of the day to get that sorted. thankfully all of the clothes jobs also count as lounge tidying as it is dumped in there.

coffee first, phone calls and moving.
Upload in progress pictures done

Toffeefudgecake · 12/08/2010 12:53

Rainy day here on holiday, but we have family here and a dog, so children are happy. I really need to do that cupboard mission - maybe I can save it all up for when I get home, but I don't think I'll have time. How often do the missions repeat themselves?

Just heard that I will have more work mid September, which is perfect, although DS2 will not be at school yet, so I will need childcare again. But we really, really need the money Sad.

Am very much enjoying not having to do my daily chores, now I'm getting used to it. It is lovely to have a break from my house, although I'm sure I'll have plenty to do when I get back.

Waves to you all.

MrsDinky · 12/08/2010 15:34

Sad DD and I realised we had headlice this morning.

Spent the morning doing the conditioner and nitty gritty comb trick on both of us and DS (who protested loudly), a lot less itching now. Grrr.

ILs have arrived for a few days, not much Flying will be happening I don't think. DH and I are going out tonight, which will be nice. Probably catch up with you all tomorrow.

DidEinsteinsMum · 12/08/2010 16:22

Sad at nits MrsD - enjoy your night out though.

Right caffine and chocolate has kicked in. We are having a huge thunder storm so my head hurts but it is worth it to have some clear air when it has done. Its been very close for a while.

Important phone calls 2 done 1 to go.
Ironing delegated so hopefully will be done at some point today else will hit tomo list.
Fold the newly washed clothes done
Put clean washing away
Tidy lounge Making good progress
15mins on dining room
15mins in utility room
Send broken part back to Lego
Strip lounge of pictures, rugs, curtains and anything that will be in the way of building work tomo. all but rug and furniture done

THat is starting to look a bit better. Lost a pattern though Sad have emailed the magazine company and am hoping i can source a replacement.

namechange100 · 12/08/2010 16:22

Yuk! Mrs D - hope you enjoy night out Smile

DEM - You've done so well with de-cluttering the last few days using the 15minutes rule. It must be the weather!

Somone warned me not to do too much or you burn out Shock. Just do you PM routine then start again tomorrow, it sounds like you've made a good progress, read your lists again.

Mind I have done jack today and messed about online. Not a bad day or good day really. Least I hav'nt spent any money today.

I had someone just call by unanounced and it was great not to be apologising for mess, I think this time last week I would have hidden in kitchen til they went Grin

namechange100 · 12/08/2010 16:27

DEM oh you have builders comming, I didnt realise that, then you have to get the lounge sorted Wink will you be ok to move furniture?

I gotta confess I couldnt move sofa (corner group) to clean behind it, so I just left it Shock with no intention of doing it until the decorator moves it (probably new year) and I'm not going to worry about it either!

Easy evening meal for me tonight - tuna jackets with mixed roast veg - chop it all and bung in oven Wink

DidEinsteinsMum · 12/08/2010 16:32

Problem is namechange I am fighting a decluttering deadline so just have to plough through it. Lounge has to be emptied for about 8pm tonight for protective plastic sheeting to go up. There is not enough time in the day or me to just chill this afternoon. I have thursday next week booked out with a friend hopefully so that will be good. just got to get it all done before wednesday. Tonight for downstairs and wednesday for upstairs. from 8pm each night it is fun projects. Actually as soon as i finish my list for the day it will be projects. and i enjoy them.

Glad you have had a gentle day today. You were scaring me with the lists. And as for september. Ds has done 1 year in school but still needs all new uniform labelling and it still doesnt feel like i will be where i want to be in time. Hopefully someone with older children will tell me it gets better but i fear not.

DidEinsteinsMum · 12/08/2010 16:33

x-posts namechange.
Yep I can manhandle the sofa, its the storage box that will invoke much huffing, puffing and swearing. I think that moving furniture gets me out of the fact I skipped training last night Grin

namechange100 · 12/08/2010 17:06

Go for it DEM - you are good though projects - I have many projects some barely started (eee I do have to laugh at myself)

A Dolls house - one room painted and partly wired Shock
Half a scarf knitted from Nov 2008
Some wook bought knitt pullover for DS
Scrapbook of baby photos for DS
Scrapbook pages some nearly finished
Some cross stitch somewhere
I think I three the glass paints away

Maybe I'll get them done with the help of FLY and this thread! My aim this christmas is to make a Gingerbread house Hmm

DidEinsteinsMum · 12/08/2010 17:19

John lewis do a fab one which all you hve to do is ice and put together. I did make one from scratch one year and it was very lopsided.

Btw my to do list for projects and projects is much longer then that and goes back further then that too.
On my to be finish UFO (unfinished objects) hit list is
knitted jumper started 2006
Chickens (still need eyes and back stiching) started 2009
tablecloth now only needing backing started 2009
x-stich christmas decorations started dec 2008

In the not even going to look at UFO pile is a x-stitch picture that I started in 2004 for a wedding present that has never been finished. And with 52 shades/colours not likely to either atm.

As for the usp (unstarted projects) - the list is so long it is rediculous. so dont even go there. If i dont do it when i think of it, it gets forgotten tbh. So the project flying I have been doing has been essential decluttering Grin

Do you feel better now namechange WinkGrin

namechange100 · 12/08/2010 17:32

Oh joy yes I do Grin I feel more normal (?) all the time on this thread. I did LOL at lopsided gingerbread house.

Our christmas lists are going to be interesting - will FLY lady inc xmas tasks?

I will be making it my business to do a Gingerbread House now and even set my profile up properly on here so I can put a photo on - might decorate with a the FAT FAIRY that is the FLYLADY! - pic of my fac eon her body -

...ooooooh I am delirous with laziness maybe having wihtdrawl from flash spray Shock

wednesday just realised this is my deadline to declutter landing and spare room, extract double bed ready for collection next day. The I have no excuse to not to decorate that room and move DS into it.

DidEinsteinsMum · 12/08/2010 17:52

She did last year. But I wasnt on top of flying last christmas. I feel like i am losing track of the babysteps. Maybe i need to resign myself to focusing on the decluttering this month and sort the babysteps next month.

Decorating ds' room in october half term when he is at his dad's also booking industrial cleaner for the carpets. the vax isnt powerful enough to shift all the much and stains. Will be nice to be properally clean for christmas. If i get chance I am going to do the skirting boards in the lounge before i do the carpets.

DidEinsteinsMum · 12/08/2010 17:55

muck not much Blush

DidEinsteinsMum · 12/08/2010 19:58

Blush I have failed. the mess that is not sorted is going to be shoved somewhere out of the way. I am now going on strike. Going to do something i want to rather then have to.

Hope you all had productive days and many thanks to namechange who has kept me sane with the chatting today.

Oh and I appear to have volunteered myself for painting as well as tiling next week. Oh joys. least it will look nice when it is done. Hmm

PositiveAttitude · 13/08/2010 08:52

Good morning ladies Grin

Babystep for today is to chose a mission from this week and do it!! So, if you have missed a mission today is a good chance to do a catch up and not feel as if you are doing double!! (IYSWIM) Hmm

Mission for today is the last on ein the kitchen and its cleaning the floor

You were all a bit slow to get going yesterday, werent you? I think it must be all the wine and late nights. Wink
Namechange and DEM did enough chatting to make up for the lack of everybody else on here. Wink - not sure how much flying between chats, but DEM seemed to be doing a lot and Namechange* deserved a day of rest!! Smile

Nmaechange, yes the fat fairy guides us through Christmas preparation. Although last year I do remember feeling a bit rebellious and refusing to do what she said simply because she told me to do it, then ending up running round like the headless chicken at the last minute, as always!! - Must lose my teenage rebellious stage before this Christmas!

Toffee Yep, fat fairy wisdom does a cycle and we go around the Zones. I think there are 5 zones, but I may be wrong (very likely). I am sure someone will correct me. So every 5 weeks we would then be back in the kitchen and doing those, or other missions.

MrsD Urgh nits!! I used to hate the blighters!! Having 4 girls with thick, long hair it was a nightmare if one of them started to itch. I must admit, it was during the holidays that I was cought out a couple of times because I relaxed more and assumed they would not catch them, forgetting that they still played with their friends. During school time I checked every head twice a week for years and years nad years. The bane of my life!!!!! Hope you have got rid and are not scratching. (It makes my head itch just thinking about them!!)
Hope you enjoyed your night out and are not suffering this morning. Smile

Welcome back home Nettie. Take it bit by bit, babysteps and all that, to get everything sorted out and unpacked.

Right, car is now being done, despite the massive bill, in the hope that we can then sell it with 12 months MOT, for more than the bill costs us and make a slight profit, rather than losing everything.
I am glad todays mission is the kitchen floor because I definitely need to do that one!
Not a lot planned for today. I am at work at the moment and need to go and sort out some forms and ID with the council offices after work, which will probably end up being incredibly frustrating!!

Question for all you gardeners out there . When do I know if rhubarb is ready to be picked and do I just rip it at the bottom of the stem? Sorry, really thick question, but never done rhubarb before. DD3 has been looking after a neighbours garden for a bit of pocket money as they are away for 2 months and there is a huge rhubarb plant that i think I should do something with. {rhubarb crumble, yum yum!!}

Must dash as I have work to do, Waves to everyone on here and will "see" you all later. Grin

feetheart · 13/08/2010 10:31

PA - if there is loads of it its ready to pick, apparantly the more you pick the more it grows. Just pull from close to the bottom so that the whole stalk comes out. Enjoy :)

Have 50 mins to do some work so will be back later when in 'panic we go away at stupid o'clock tomorrow' mode and I NEED a list Hmm

namechange100 · 13/08/2010 11:10

Morning everyone, thanks for post/round up PA Mmmmmm rhubarb - lush - we used to eat it raw dipping it in sugar when we were little from Grandparents garden. Enjoy our crumble Envy

Hmmm everyone does seem to be coming and g oing with holidays & builders.

Does it matter that I am not doing just the babysteps? I need to de-clutter faster than that and I have the time. I do think FLY is a good system and will do what someone else said (sorry forgot) to use it to keep on top after my big clear up.

This is my list for today which includes very small broken down tasks for DS room:
AM Routine
Washed done albeit at 10am
Dressed no ^I'm Flying in jamas so I dont get clothes sweaty/dirty
Breakfast done
Shine Sink done ^including dishes from a take away Grin first one in over 6months (bloody lovely!)
Washing done

Set aside baby books - put in porch ready for garage
Dampe wipe whole of unit
Pick out toys no longer played with - put in porch ready for garage
Sort out toy boxes (re-patriate bob with dizzy, thomas with track etc) they all very mixed up fried eggs in the knights box
.
.

.

Goto gym
Evening Meal - Tuna Jackets and Salad

MrsDinky · 13/08/2010 11:14

Morning all,

Grandma has taken DCs out for a few hours, so I have a massive tidying up of the house to do before they get back.

Namechange and DEM - I have one of those Gingerbread men kits sitting in my cupboard, bought it at Christmas and forgot to do it. Maybe I will let Grandma and the DCs do it later if it hasn't expired. Someone at school made some baby ones for the Christmas fair, you get a digestive biscuit as the base, and build the house out of 4 custard creams as walls and 2 malted milks as the roof, all stuck together with royal icing, then decorate with sweets, they were gorgeous. Not actually very gingery though!

Aargh, have just remembered about the Fat Fairy Christmas preparation stuff, I seem to remember we all took the p*ss out of a lot of it, hmmm.

My 300 photos have arrived from Kodak, going to have a nice time this evening putting all those in albums.

Today - tidying, house has deteriorated a lot in the last 24 hours. Desk STILL needs doing, bathroom needs a good going over, and whole place needs hoovering. No washing needed today.

namechange100 · 13/08/2010 11:54

MrsDinky aha someone else with gingerbread intentions! Hmmm, I'm interested to see these christmas FLY posts. In the past I have made xmas cakes that have gone un-iced or decorated and ended up being chucked out Shock As a result of decluttering and being in and out of the Garage i've come across a lot of xmas stuff thats what got me thinking.
DH said last night he wants the most calm and quiet, family orientated christmas possible this year - last year we were seperated Sad but I did acutally have a very good time and was empowered by how much I did for me and DS on my own Smile

TO ALL I am a follower of Martin Lewis (you know off GMTV) and I often check the website for his deals etc. We have learnt how to be very disciplined with our finances (that another story) and if anyone is looking for a cheap holiday for next week there is 4 nights at Pontins in a budget room for £60.00 - its next week only though.

Previously I have got several £10 spa vouchers, cheap deals on boots, bodyshop and loads of extra clubcard points which have paid for theme parks etc. If anyone looking for anything in particular let me know and I'll keep and eye out. HTH someone, I'll keep quiet otherwise Grin

DidEinsteinsMum · 13/08/2010 12:26

PA- Apparantly end of august is when it needs to be rested though. However, I have left resting it til september if the plant has been allowed to get really big and gain energy for the crown. Our rhubarb is poorly this year so is already on rest phase. Manure this winter

Right as for my list yesterday I
didnt finished the lounge but reduced the clutter by 3/4 and moved all the furnitutre
Folded all the clothes and put half of them away
Sorted out the kitchen
finished the washing

So it was productive.

Today however is a day of rest and hopefully project doing. For next week is already looking crazy and I am bordering on burn out.

namechange100 · 13/08/2010 13:57

DS room Sad, err fed up and Angry at all the crap rubbish I stuff that has accumulated I will be very guarded at what is bought in future, can't even update list yet, it just all pulled out harrrummmppphhh.
