Living room decoration options (with photos)

Looking to redecorate or living room. These are the options so far generated with AI, and I'm not sure any of them are quite right. I lean towards strong earthy colors. Wall colour and sofa colours can change. Would like to keep pink unit and rug. Details such as cushions, lighting can change, mirror frame can be painted and potentially (electric) woodburner could be painted/changed.

Which one is best, and what other options/changes would you suggest? I think I have decision fatigue.

Bear in mind when you’re painting panelling with moulding you need to use 2 or 3 tones of the same colour (indistinguishable to the naked eye) to give dimension so it doesn’t come out flat.

Thanks

It's a vintage cabinet and staying.

Sympathies!

Wasn't sure on navy. Def don't like wallpaper feature walls, not my style at sll.

Whichever you do, colour all the way to the ceiling like this looks better than all the other pics.

Do what you want-you're the one living with it. I'd personally go lighter.

For what? It's lovely and perfectly in keeping with the house.

Already explained this isn't good for this house.

I actually really like all of them. But I think you need a different colour on the fireplace - it’s too much colour drenching otherwise which makes it look bland despite the strong colours. Also think about a bolder colour for the rug, maybe a red. Again, looks bland otherwise. Also consider a colour other than white for the ceiling - the contrast is too much. It doesn’t have to be a strong colour on the ceiling, even a colour match for something like Little Greene Co slaked lime might help. In fact, if you look on the Little Greene Co website they suggest complimentary colours for their shades which might help with inspiration.

Green goes best with pink but could you lose the panelling effect on the chimney breast? It clashes with the mirror and the fireplace. Mantel in natural wood or same colour as stove?

Franxi · 03/10/2026 10:30

Would you consider getting rid of the panelling? It that’s what’s making it look a bit off.

Nope.

Sorry but I don't think there's a colour on earth that will look good with that shade of pink

Um OK. Thank you for your highly constructive comment. I hope it makes you feel good about yourself.

No need to take it personally. YOU'RE not pink! It's just that I think you've got an insoluble problem there.

Come on, it was a thinly disguised nasty dig. What a way to start your weekend!

Can you share a photo of the room as it currently is? Might be useful for some other ideas. I love the pink cabinet, and think it would go with lots of colour schemes - not sure about mustard or terracotta though!

Jeez - sensitive much? I even said sorry already!

It's a lovely room and you've uploaded some really nice wall and sofa colours, but ... well, you don't want to hear it, so I won't say it. Best of luck, anyway

Not sensitive, just calling you out on your bad behaviour! Sorry you don't like that.

Just come back to this and asked for versions I think would still complement the pink but suit the moody / earthy theme. I like the idea of a lighter shade of the chosen colour at the top, and non clashing sofa - I would match the sofas to the walls but add lots of cushions in varying shades of the walls and the pink.

Could you paint a light neutral colour up to the picture rail, and then a different colour above the picture rail and on the ceiling? That’s what I’ve done in my front room in yellow. I’ve gone for a lighter shade of yellow than I would have used if doing the walls, so it doesn’t feel dark.

Maisymouse2 · 03/10/2026 12:04

RinklyRomaine · 01/10/2026 18:36

The pink is hard to match with earthier colours. I’d go more olive, and find a way to hang some greenery out of furry reach. Something like this:

Very nice.

kitchenplans · 01/10/2026 19:15

Thank you, but not for me! Too light and bright, I'm clearly a dark soul!

So why the pink unit? It’s the pink that doesn’t work with any of the dark colours you’re looking at. Which is why you’re struggling. If you remove the pink unit, your dark soul can come out!

Bryonyberries · 03/10/2026 12:15

I think the pink is the wrong tone for the more earthy colours (which I like). If you must keep the pink unit just there you may need to match the tone of it with the browns etc.

Bacha1910 · 03/10/2026 13:38

You’ve got to be careful with AI as it does subtly change the colour of things - I love how RinklyRaine’s options look, but I think the pink is subtly different in each one.
