Living room decoration options (with photos)

Looking to redecorate or living room. These are the options so far generated with AI, and I'm not sure any of them are quite right. I lean towards strong earthy colors. Wall colour and sofa colours can change. Would like to keep pink unit and rug. Details such as cushions, lighting can change, mirror frame can be painted and potentially (electric) woodburner could be painted/changed.

Which one is best, and what other options/changes would you suggest? I think I have decision fatigue.

I really like the terracotta colour. I think it could be more orange and less red personally. I have a similar pink in my bedroom with terracotta bedding and it looks lovely and warm.

The pink is hard to match with earthier colours. I’d go more olive, and find a way to hang some greenery out of furry reach. Something like this:

I much prefer that green. Trying to work out if it's all the other changes that make that pic look nice, or just the change of green tone.

We have Bancha in the kitchen and the downstairs loo, so we might end up a bit green heavy...(and Stiffkey Blue in the dining).

I think the bluer toned green with the pink is somehow dated - keeping the unit as a focal point means you need the balance. A hanging porthos in the window, a big wicker shade and the tonal cushions would pull it together. Our entire downstairs is variations of shade, and I don’t think it’s too much - I like the flow.

honestly the 1st and third look like diarrhoea please don’t go with them. I’d either go a lighter green or the pink.

I like the pink best (but I'm biased as our snug is Edward Bulmer Nicaragua 😉).

Then green, although I prefer the shade of green suggested by @RinklyRomaine. At our previous house we painted our living room in Farrow & Ball Olive which was lovely and was a good foil for the other colours in the room (antique multicoloured Persian rug, colourful cushions etc)

What about a duck egg?

Thank you, but not for me! Too light and bright, I'm clearly a dark soul!

Love green with the pink cabinet

Snowie99 · 01/10/2026 19:17

Whatever colour you choose, the mantelpiece needs to be a feature

If you like dark and moody but still want warmth what about oxblood?

I like that olive green a lot, ties the pink cabinet in well. What ai app are you using? I would like to try it for my living room!

I just snapped a photo and put it into the google AI thing on my phone. It only allowed me about 10 before my daily limit was reached.

Yes that shade of green is lovely.

The sage green walls definitely but not that brown colour sofa. If you already have sofas maybe try with different throws. If you are buying new maybe try a couple of arm chairs or pouffe or window seat instead of two sofas, or put them at more of an angle so that it's not all so square.

Keeping the sofas, but getting new covers, so all options, are possible.

Green one

Wasn't sure on navy. Def don't like wallpaper feature walls, not my style at sll.

I like the navy with the green sofas!

connie26 · 01/10/2026 23:43

Green looks the cosiest. I'm not a fan of the pink side board there. Wood would look better.

AllJoyAndNoFun · 02/10/2026 06:32

From someone who's just been through this, how wedded are you to the baby pink cabinet? Just because anchoring the whole room round that, which doesn't naturally suit a dark and moody colour scheme, is going to cut down your options and could lead to disproportionately big compromises elsewhere. If you are wedded to it (and I understand that too), then I think @RinklyRomaine has nailed it.

If the room is south facing thie olive green colour drenched pic is absolutely stunning!! We colour drenched our redecorated living room with the exception of the cornice and ceiling in a lighter shade of the colour (not white) we’ve only had positive comments and we absolutely love it. It looks so put together. This one is 10/10 * I don’t know how to tag the pic sorry

catsflorafauna · 02/10/2026 08:25

Ooooh I’ve realised why the olive green one looks so good! It’s got rid of the cream log burner or electric burner (not a fan) black all the way

Pinkclarko · 02/10/2026 08:29

I think you’re leaning towards olive, but if that’s too dark then you could do somewhere between sage and olive? I don’t think the pink will be jarring with the right dressing around/on it. At the end of the day, whether you like it is all that matters. Personally I think any/all of those mock ups could look good with the right furnishings etc. lovely room.

Not the question you asked but what was the AI tool you used?

I really like the ochre in your options but it’s all so subjective.

I just used the AI search in Chrome on my phone. Only allowed about 10 images before I reached my daily limit
