So you are sitting in your house on a boring Sunday afternoon and the phone rings and woo hoo it's artist Yvonne Coomber herself! Not an admin assistant but the lovely artist herself.

I bought something off her website earlier today and the first purchase timed out as I didn't approve it quick enough on my bank app and so I had to do it a second time. Yvonne called me to check I knew the first one hadn't gone through and we had a nice wee chat (she didn't realise it had already gone through on the 2nd transaction)

Anyone met her or bought one of her pictures. I live in Scotland and so not very easy for me to go to any of her exhibitions although i would love to

I just bought 'feeling groovy' canvas off her website. I already have 2 signed prints. Yvonne is now looking through her original oils to send me some in my taste.

What a nice lady to phone up a customer and chat away.

I was quite shocked and probably babbled like an idiot.

Anyway I love one of her older pieces now not available called Wild Champagne love so Yvonne is going to see if she has anything similar available to buy.

I mean the lady sells thousands of pieces of art and no doubt has a team of people helping her with her art shows, art gallery etc and so you just don't expect the actual artist to phone you up herself.

By the way for those of you who like to browse her pieces for sale - she says she does not really put the smaller oil originals on her website as they sell really fast. So if you want one you have to contact her and ask to see what she has for sale.

Anyway just wanted to share my afternoon with someone and the dog wasn't that impressed!

Do it! I really believe everyone can learn to draw and paint (no, not saying we're all Picassos but enough to get a lot of pleasure from it).

Get yourself the workbook version of "Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain" by Betty Edwards as a start and all you need is a pencil to get going! Extremely therapeutic. Then if you like learning by video there's lots on Youtube, or you can get some reasonable subscriptions on Patreon.

It's a brilliant hobby, brings me so much joy, and I never had a particular talent for it.

that's so nice that you have found a hobby you enjoy. It's definately something I am going to try especially if it has therapeutic effects!

I will look at the BE workbook when I get a minute. Thanks for the tip.

Hi @4pawdrive have you ever looked at Anne Vastano's paintings? She's based up in the Highlands and while her work isn't like Yvonne Coombers, she's very stylised with bold colours and beautiful highland scenes.

I'd put a link in but I'm on the app!

ah thanks for that. I'll have a peek later on tonight. I'm definately drawn to the colours in artwork so bold colours sounds right up my street. Thanks for posting.

Another Yvonne fan here. I hope to buy one of her prints soon - I'm having treatment for.csncer at the moment, and I feel like it would be a fitting treat once I've finished active treatment!

So sorry to hear about your cancer. Hope you are on the mend soon. You definately deserve at least 1 Yvonne picture then to mark the end of your treatment (or before as it might help the healing by lifting your spirits)

I like Gary Walton, Matilda Koneka and Lucy Pittaway

The first two remind me of illustrations in a book and I wonder what the stories would be, Matilda very Harry Potter fantasyesque.

thanks for the new suggestions. I'll have a look when I get a minute.

Big excitement today here in Scotland (okay well in my tiny life, rest of Scotland probably not so fussed) but my Feeling Groovy Canvas is here!!!!!!!!!

I've taken pictures and will attach but to be honest it is nicer in real life that the pictures show. For example the canvas has glitter applied to it which you can't really see in photos but you can in real life. I looked online at the pictures a million times (okay, well alot, probably not a million) and it really is nicer in the flesh than pictures can capture.

I was a bit worried how it would be - it's a printed canvas but then Yvonne has added paint to it and I just couldn't imagine how that would look in real life. I mean I was worried the non painted parts would look 'faint' or 'fake' beside the real paint. Honestly though you don't notice - the entire thing is just so vibrant.

Without a doubt the nicest thing in my livingroom .

It's massive so quite a focal point in the room (the room is about 16ft by 12ft (although it is open to the dinning room which is another 10 ft by 8ft) so it's quite a big space that it has to 'impress' in if that makes sense.

Anyway I wondered if I would like it enough to buy another and the answer is yes I would.

It's also really made me keener to buy more of her work. I'm waiting with bated breath for her new spring collection.

To everyone who loves her I hope you like the pictures.

I'm poorer in £££ but richer in everything else.

Really looking forward to seeing it tomorrow in the daylight. I managed to see it briefly before the light started fading and like I said these pictures really do not capture it's vibrancy and 'showstopping' ness

Oh my God, that is so lovely (& made me wonder if I should buy a print now - did you have to pay extra for the painted on bits?!?)

What size is it in cm please?

Please show more pics in daylight! And in context of the room, furniture etc. I really like it OP, v. happy for you!

strawberrybarn · 27/01/2025 17:13

To be honest, I think the name Feeling Groovy might have put me off, but it really is lovely.

Hi Strawberry thank you. I am very pleased with it.

The canvas is 90 cm by 120 cm so it's big.

You can still buy this one on the Yvonne Coomber website - just look under shop and then under printed canvases. I paid £850 for it - the price on the website is £995 but you can get 15% to the end of January by using 'HappynewYear' in the coupon discount box at checkout. (I'm on her mailing list so that is how I know that).

There is no extra on top of that to get the painted bits and glitter etc (ie all the hand finishing that Yvonne does personally). Its just one price.

I've got 2 prints from her and I have to say whilst I do love the prints and would consider more of them, the canvas has really stole the limelight so to speak.

I googled Yvonne Coomber Feeling Groovy and found pictures of it in various places (instagram, various galleries who were showing it) so so I could get a better idea of the colours and size before I bought it.

To be honest, I think the name Feeling Groovy might have put me off, but it really is lovely.

I'm not sure if you are joking or not but if you are not then I definately would not let that put you off buying it.

The canvas is titled and signed by Yvonne on the back and numbered (as she only does 50 I think of each one). Apart from that no-one would ever know the name unless you wanted to tell them.

It actually quite suits it though as it does conjure up feelings off dancing in a field of wildflowers on a late summers day as the sun begins to set

Good luck whatever you decide. She is a very talented lady. I am just thinking over whether to commission a piece from her. I found a painting I love that she did in the past called Sunshine Hearts and I am thinking it over. It's alot of money for originals but having seen the canvas I am now thinking I would utterly love an original even if it is just a small one.

A close friend commissioned me one for a big bday. I love it. And it’s very sparkly!

Wow that is a good friend buying you that for a birthday present. I need to get new friends ha ha

Yes I had glitter all over the sofa from when I was unwrapping it. It's very subtle on the canvas, just seen at different angles and in different lights but so lovely.

I'd love to see yours if you don't mind posting a photo? Also what is yours called? They all have such lovely names.

Well if anyone is still following this I am having a most exciting day. (sad little retired life here!)

I have bought a small but original Yvonne picture. WooHoo. Haven't got it yet but here it is.

It's like a picture of two haves. Warm and pink on one side and blue and cold on the other.

It's only a baby one at 23x30cm but I have a small space in the hall I want to put it so I think it will be perfect.

For those of you who have told me you have bought something from her but not posted a photo here, you big teases!! Making me wait to see them.

I feel like it's a bargain cos it's like 2 pictures in one. Ha ha.

YC send me 4 baby originals she has for sale (not on website) and jeez spent about 2 hours trying to decide which one was my favourite. She dosen't make it easy.

Yay! How much was that!

Talk about big tease, I'm still waiting for daylight photos of your print!

Ah sorry Strawberry I wasn't sure if you still wanted daytime photo after you said the name had put you off. I want to take one in the morning so the sun is on it (east facing room) and unfortunately I'm usually not up till early afternoon (retired). I'll try and get around to it.

The baby original was £550. I won't get it for another 2 weeks as the paint is still drying Yvonne said today. YC is also doing me 2 commissions based on 2 pictures she did in the past but are not available anymore. Be a wee while before I get those though. Something to look forward to !

I think Yvonne has another 3 baby originals for sale - see her facebook page but that was yesterday so some might be sold. You'd need to ask her.

Thought some of you might want a wee peek at my first original Yvonne Coomber which arrived today. It's only small (30cm x 23cm) but has pride of place on a small wall in the hallway. If only I was rich and could buy a big original!

Don't think my camera is doing them justice to be honest. The colours are more vibrant than the camera is showing them to be.

I have this one (as an original). I love Yvonne Coomber and had a couple of her prints but had been looking for the 'right' original to buy for ages. I found this one and bought it after my mum died and it makes me smile without fail every time I look at it.
