So you are sitting in your house on a boring Sunday afternoon and the phone rings and woo hoo it's artist Yvonne Coomber herself! Not an admin assistant but the lovely artist herself.

I bought something off her website earlier today and the first purchase timed out as I didn't approve it quick enough on my bank app and so I had to do it a second time. Yvonne called me to check I knew the first one hadn't gone through and we had a nice wee chat (she didn't realise it had already gone through on the 2nd transaction)

Anyone met her or bought one of her pictures. I live in Scotland and so not very easy for me to go to any of her exhibitions although i would love to

I just bought 'feeling groovy' canvas off her website. I already have 2 signed prints. Yvonne is now looking through her original oils to send me some in my taste.

What a nice lady to phone up a customer and chat away.

I was quite shocked and probably babbled like an idiot.

Anyway I love one of her older pieces now not available called Wild Champagne love so Yvonne is going to see if she has anything similar available to buy.

I mean the lady sells thousands of pieces of art and no doubt has a team of people helping her with her art shows, art gallery etc and so you just don't expect the actual artist to phone you up herself.

By the way for those of you who like to browse her pieces for sale - she says she does not really put the smaller oil originals on her website as they sell really fast. So if you want one you have to contact her and ask to see what she has for sale.

Anyway just wanted to share my afternoon with someone and the dog wasn't that impressed!

I don’t think she does have a huge team. When I went in her shop it was her brother in there. When he couldn’t answer my question he called her for me to talk to her directly. Like you I babble like an idiot 😂

Inlimboin50s · 16/01/2025 16:13

I have Stand by me which I bought about 7 years ago. It's a print.
I remember when it came and how excited I was when I unpacked it,it was a treat to myself when I moved in to my little Victorian terrace and a very large expense for me.
It's hung by the kitchen and brings me joy and calm. The photos are in different light

@4pawdrive the first link you shared. It's by a neighbour who is an artist, just very very similar!

Goodness what is the artists name so I can google their work?

Oh that's interesting. I just assumed as she has a shop/gallery plus does exhibitions and open weekends etc she must have a fair few people working behind the scenes setting things up, dealing with customers, sending out packages. I know her husband does the frame work.

If it's a small team then that is even more special/talented.

Even monkeys like their artwork!!!

oops that was meant to say 'even idiots like their artwork' (referring to our babbling like idiots comment). Monkeys probably do like Yvonne Coomber too though!

Thanks for posting. It's lovely (aren't all her pictures).
It must look lovely in a victorian house.

Yes at first I though jeez that's a bit pricey for a print but when I see how lovely they are and how much happiness/joy/serenity they must bring to their owners homes they are worth the expense.

Well I think so anyway.

Great excitement her in Scotland her as my new Yvonne Coomber print arrived. Beautifully packaged from the box to the bubble wrap to the fragile stickers plastered over the box.

It has been framed beautifully (thanks Yvonne's husband) and the colours are just so vibrant for a print. You really could almost think it was the real thing.

Anyway here's a picture. Sorry it's a dark cloudy day in Scotland but the print is still beautiful.

I love her paintings but couldn't afford them!

I did my own homage to hers in the right colours for my lounge!

I have to admit seeing her paintings has given me a bit of an urge to try painting for the first time. Not saying I'd be any good or anything but it might be fun.
(I not long retired so looking for some new hobbies that don't involve lying horizontal watching netflix!)

Yes I think the colours are a big part of her artwork because I find myself drawn to the ones where she has used very bold vibrant colours and less to the more muted colour ones.

Do you feel confident enough to share your paintings? I'd love to see what you've done. Give me some tips.

The print from Yvonne I just bought was only £208 with the 15% discount on in January. I know that is still alot of money but that was with it framed beautifully and packaged and sent from Devon to Scotland.

The trouble is since I hung it everything else in my livingroom looks alot more 'dull' and 'shabby'.

I really love her work and dream of owning a big original one day. How nice she called you.

strawberrybarn · 23/01/2025 15:47

That's so beautiful OP, so glad you love it.

I have a three Pam McKenzie originals (artist based locally to me in North Berwick) and also love this lady on tiktok www.tiktok.com/@artdesignbyari?_t=ZG-8tJF6nbkRjE&_r=1, I think both are quite similar to YC.

I dream of visiting the gallery and owning an Yvonne Coomber original, maybe my retirement present to myself in 20 years!

icecreamscoops · 23/01/2025 16:02

Absolutely love her! I've been following on insta for ages and decided I'd get one. Last summer we drove to Cornwall via Totnes and visited her gallery.
Decided to just do it and splurge some savings and every day is a joy to look at it!
I spoke to her on the phone while in the gallery and she was joyful! I would highly recommend purchasing her artwork for the sheer delight it brings every day!

I'm having similar ideas myself. To make a trip down to her gallery and make a wee holiday out of it for me and the dog.

Would love to see what you bought if you don't mind posting a picture?

You're right - her stuff is expensive but definately a joy to look at and lifts your spirits and they are just so pretty.

thanks for the tips. Finding artists you like is surprising difficult. I'll have a wee look at them later

I've just retired and am thinking about splurging on one of her originals..........having lots of fun looking at them online and she said she would be starting her new spring collection soon (so hopefully lots of nice new ones appearing). Just worried if I start buying her originals I won't be able to stop.

My canvas got dispatched yesterday but has not arrived yet probably due to weather (my print arrived the next day after dispatch).

Looking forward to getting it and will post a picture when I do.

I know - she sounded just so nice. Exactly as she is on her videos on you tube.

I suppose if you work out how often the original will give you joy/happiness/uplift your mood over your lifetime then they work out pretty good value for money. That's what I'm telling myself anyway.

The problem is how to pick one?

Do it! I really believe everyone can learn to draw and paint (no, not saying we're all Picassos but enough to get a lot of pleasure from it).

Get yourself the workbook version of "Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain" by Betty Edwards as a start and all you need is a pencil to get going! Extremely therapeutic. Then if you like learning by video there's lots on Youtube, or you can get some reasonable subscriptions on Patreon.

It's a brilliant hobby, brings me so much joy, and I never had a particular talent for it.

BloodyHellBob · 24/01/2025 17:31

Hi @4pawdrive have you ever looked at Anne Vastano's paintings? She's based up in the Highlands and while her work isn't like Yvonne Coombers, she's very stylised with bold colours and beautiful highland scenes.

I'd put a link in but I'm on the app!

You must go! Totnes was absolutely gorgeous lots of independent shops and other galleries which are far too tempting! Would love to go back for longer!

Another Yvonne fan here. I hope to buy one of her prints soon - I'm having treatment for.csncer at the moment, and I feel like it would be a fitting treat once I've finished active treatment!

I bet he got some brownie points for that great birthday present!

I love the blue mount that you have round it - it really pulls the colours out.

Thanks for posting. It's so nice to be able to see what everyone else has purchased from YC.

I like Gary Walton, Matilda Koneka and Lucy Pittaway

The first two remind me of illustrations in a book and I wonder what the stories would be, Matilda very Harry Potter fantasyesque.
