Sage green, not a dark one. Any recommendations?

Our living room needs a facelift and I’m thinking of changing the walls from beige to a sage green. I don’t want it to be dark though.

The range of green in the DIY stores is a bit overwhelming and the tester pots never come out like they look on the colour charts.

Has anyone got a similar colour that they can recommend?

We've got Zoffany celadon all through our hall, landing and staircase. It's a gorgeous colour, very soothing.

F&B Cromarty is the lightest sage but still intense if you get the real deal.
Mizzle is slightly darker.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 03/03/2024 18:04

@ShrubRose it’s on the list to try,

@Wizzadorra70 that’s the shade that I have in mind. Where do they sell that brand?

We have Dulux Crushed Aloe (or did in our old house, and will again in this one at some point).

The Farrow & Ball Teresa's Green seems close to the Laura Ashley Eau de Nil. They're both gorgeous, imo.

Have you looked at Farrow & Ball Teresa's Green?

I would say that Teresa's Green is almost more of a turquoise. It's very bluey.

We have Zoffany Green Almond in our bathroom and Zoffany Sage downstairs.

The colour charts make both of them look darker than they are so you do need a tester really. Very pleased with both.
I never knew there were so many shades of green when I started looking!

We have Sherwin Williams Oyster Bay in our east / south facing bedroom. It's a room flooded with light and it looks gorgeous.

My inner geek has to make a brief appearance - because of the construction of the human eye, we see more shades of green than any other colour!

Why does the human eye see more shades of green than any other colour?

Answer (1 of 25): I like Adam Wu’s answer about the wavelength range that’s most available to the eye. Even in mammals with very minimal color vision, such as dogs, cats, and horses, shades of green are among their limited ability and yellow-orange-red...

I have mellow sage by crown in my bedroom and study and I love it, it's so soft and chilled.

Do you think it would go with curtains like this?

Lovely colour, but I'm not sure about the match with those curtains. I think some of the other greens people posted might pick up that shade on the lower left better.
It's tricky - sometimes the colour you prefer isn't the one that goes with what you want to match.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 03/03/2024 21:43

I’m hopeless at this kind of thing! It feels like I need to get the walls done then bring some swatches of fabric home to put both together.

We have Dunelm Sage Green in our north facing bedroom, I absolutely love it.

Initially as it was going on I thought it was far too dark but I guess that was against the old colour. Once finished it looks amazing. Really good quality paint as well, and very reasonable.

We took aggggesss to decide on the right shade of green. A lot of the lighter sage greens aren't 'sage' enough, they end up looking too pastelly or duck eggy whereas to me, sage is more of an earthy colour.

That sounds like a good idea, actually. Do the paint colour you really love, and then find a curtain to match.

F&B Old White is a lovely soft sage green

JaninaDuszejko · 05/03/2024 10:59

F&B lichen might be an option?

We’re off! They all need to dry - fingers crossed the lighten up considerably…..
