Sage green, not a dark one. Any recommendations?

Our living room needs a facelift and I’m thinking of changing the walls from beige to a sage green. I don’t want it to be dark though.

The range of green in the DIY stores is a bit overwhelming and the tester pots never come out like they look on the colour charts.

Has anyone got a similar colour that they can recommend?

mizzle is second in from the right. I like the shade but it’s a bit too dark. I need it a couple of tints lighter which I think our local independent decorating shop will be able to do - I feel another tester pot coming on!

We’re off! They all need to dry - fingers crossed the lighten up considerably…..

If you can, paint large samples on different walls and look at them in different lights...

I struggled with green, and ended up with an apple green that is perfect in daylight but too bright in artificial light.

B&Q Good Home paint in the shade 'Limerick' is lovely. I have it in my bedroom and love it x

They’re all so different in artificial light. I’m thoroughly confused!

I have F&B Mizzle in my bathroom and it looks way lighter than the tester you have painted OP. I think it will dry much lighter. Did you use a F&B tester pot or is this a colour match one?

I personally like the one on the far right the best. Second choice would be second to the left. IMO the others are too grey and would end up looking dreary, especially during the winter.
When I picked my paint colours, I painted them on craft cards so I could move them around and look at them with a larger area. Just saying ...🙂

F and B bone is lighter than mizzle. For some reason it looks very beige like on their website, but in real life its a lovely sage green and a fair bit lighter than all of your samples.

They have lightened up a bit, but not as much as I’d hoped. They are all the original tester pots so the Mizzle is F&B.

craft cards is a good idea, thanks @ShrubRose

Good luck with it. Looking forward to watching the selection process!

Ooh my wall looks just the same at the moment! I'm also trying to pick a similar green.

BarleyShuga · 19/03/2024 09:04

Try Cromarty instead of Mizzle. It's several shades lighter. I have Mizzle opposite the window and Cromarty elsewhere. Right now in morning light the difference is noticeable. Under artificial light they are indistinguishable.

Here they are dry

The third one in from the left 2 tones lighter is what I’m after I think!

Sage green, not a dark one. Any recommendations?

Interesting! Which colour is it? I'd like to take a look at it when it's not next to other shades.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 19/03/2024 19:04

It’s Johnstone’s Natural Sage.

What about Sage Green Dulux

Sage green, not a dark one. Any recommendations?
SwedishEdith · 19/03/2024 19:25

Try Light Blue F&B. I think that's closer to what you want. What are the testers in order from the left?

EvelynBeatrice · 19/03/2024 20:10

Farrow and Ball 'Ball green' is a subtle sage green. I tried 20 testers. However it looked great in one room but didn't like in another with less natural light where we ended up with pale coffee/ taupe Dulux Natural Hessian!

spudnik1 · 19/03/2024 20:13

Deluxe overtly olive is perfect

Muchtoomuchtodo · 19/03/2024 20:19

I really struggled to find all of the testers that were recommended at the start of the thread.

L- R goes:

Dulux Tranquil Dawn, Crown Mellow Sage, Johnstone’s Natural Sage, B&Q Carlow (did look greeny on the in-store sample!), F&B Mizzle, F&B Teresa’s Green

It’s Johnstone’s Natural Sage.

On my monitor, Natural Sage looks quite different than your photo, so it's hard for me to comment. I do agree that a lighter colour than the one in your photo would work better, though.

I am consistent - I looked back over the thread. I suggested F&B Teresa's Green, and it's the one I like best of your samples!

yummyscummymummy01 · 19/03/2024 21:55

F&B Mizzle for sure. It looks a lot lighter over a larger space.

Wondering if you have looked at F&B Cromarty. It looks a lot nicer on my monitor. F&B website says, "A muted green-gray ... a shade lighter than Mizzle."

No, I couldn’t find a tester for that one. It looks pretty good in that picture though.
