We trying to sort our master bathroom, it's 3x4m. This will be a full renovation (back to bricks). We don't want to go for makeover option, we want to do it properly so it would last 15-20 years. Wondering what prices you have paid recently (full cost)? Manchester/UK area? How long it took to renovate? We not looking at budget nor bispoke - something in a middle, but with decent finish

I think we were quoted £10k for similar sized full bathroom renovation in Manchester but that may not have included tiles. I reckon I spent £12,500 to £15,000 as I had the downstairs cloakroom done at same time. We went high end but not luxury.

Just PMd you my bathroom fitter if you can book him in (itd be a long wait but worth it) and a other place in Sale that was a friend of a friend recommendation.

I can recommend tiles UK in Salford (my fitter got a discount, they have some good ranges) and there's a place in Wythenshawe called porcelain tiles direct or something like that with some fabulous tiles not ridiculous prices. My friend recommended tile mountain and I ordered loads of paid for samples but in the end far preferred tiles UK.

The time taken may depend on your house, ours is old and whenever we do work we always find something that has been bodged before that needs to be redone. A lot of our walls are laithe and plaster and it’s a right mess when we need to something with them. Pulling out the old fittings, partitions and building new walls took comparatively more time than the actual tiling and fitting. I assume newer homes don’t need that level of preparation.

Mine took 3 weeks and downstairs was a week (very small). We did have bath in relatively quickly so we could wash.

It was back to brick, reboarded, new pipework. Everything fresh. Neutral scheme. I got 17 years out of my old bathroom and it was not new when I moved in. I reckon it lasted 30 years. My in law's have bathrooms that lasted that long.

Yet I know people who had only 7 to 10 years out of badly fitted bathrooms where they skimped. Neighbours bathroom recently fell into their dining room due to a slow leak damaged the floorboards and beams in an Edwardian house. That was only 10 years old. Bathrooms are a nightmare if done badly.

Notfastjustfurious · 12/02/2024 16:08

£10k last year and it's awful. Worst decision ever made. Read Trust pilot reviews and the number of them, check trading standards and also get Google reviews I only did Trust pilot and the fact there was only 28 should have rang alarm bells - company has been in business over 30 years. It took 5 days which for the size of room would be fine, if it was done right.

Yeah agree. In our old house bathrooms been done properly and we never had any issues. I don't remember exactly how much we paid - it was long time ago in 2016 (was around 7-9k per bathroom). Everything changed after covid. Also is very hard get decent fitters. We will start getting quotes within next few days, let's see how it will go.

£5.5 k. Two full weeks. NW England. Local bathroom company.

Back to bricks.
Same layout but full new suite.
Floor to ceiling tiles all round including floor.
Wall mounted vanity added.

I would say it was about a year before that of getting quotes, never hearing back, getting ghosted from the ones that did quote. It was then also delayed about 4 months because of supply issues. But once it actually commenced, it was straighforward enough.

Delerium1970 · 12/02/2024 16:16

Yep, hence I am saying 5-7 days bathroom work is unrealistic. Also what I noticed - that lots people mixing plastering with skimming :) or what actually means "back to bricks renovation" :) Most "facebook bathroom fitters" just instead full renovation offering what is called "makeover". Tiles or panels on existing tiles :) no tanking, no support for floor tiles, no proper materials used. I guess you will get what you paid for. Is hard to find decent people, thats my main problem.

€5500. Was 2020 though.
That was knock two tiny en-suites into one, everything out, balcony door turned into window, new floor joist beam, underfloor heating and scread. Fully tiled with walk in shower. Bespoke shower glass. New in wall floating toilet and sink with unit. Electric and water duel towel rail. All Villeroy boch rain shower/ unit / taps.

It took about 3 weeks? But timescale hard to say as we had full renovation of that side at one time so lots of things like drywall or plaster were done when they also did other rooms that week. Actually glass shower screen took about 6 weeks after as they couldn’t do final measurements until all tiling was in and then it had to be made

Delerium1970 · 12/02/2024 16:17

What was company name?

Did two last summer, in total took six weeks. Stripped back to brick, ceilings off and floors re-boarded too. Rads in the same place, but dual towel rails added. Plumbing moved but not foul. 4m x 6m and 3.5m x 6m. One with bath, both with walk in shower. Quartz tops, heated mirrors etc. Approx £17k each.

Icannotbudget · 12/02/2024 17:26

We paid 10k for back to bricks, rewired, replumbed and new ceiling and walls plus good quality fixtures and fittings. Freestanding iron bath was 3k.

LittleRebelGirl · 12/02/2024 17:27

Bloody hell. Wish I hadn't wasted my time here!
You're clearly looking for problems with everyone.
Yes it was back to brick. Yes it was replastered with plaster board, Yes it was tanked. It also had the pipes buried in the walls and under floorboards. Extractor fan fitted. Shaving socket fitted. New towel rad. New skirting. New doors. New architrave. I didn't have a tiled floor. Walls 2/3rd tiled. New pvc ceiling and spotlights.

Octavia64 · 12/02/2024 17:28

7k.

Just started, saying two weeks.

East Anglia, local firm

OP I think it’s clear you are the one who doesn’t know what you’re talking about here.

@Delerium1970

Why are you telling people that their timelines are too short or the prices they paid are too cheap?

You asked how much people's bathroom renovations cost and how long they took. People are giving you their answers. Don't be a twat.

This. If you know so much about it why ask -you clearly know better anyway

LittleRebelGirl · 12/02/2024 17:44

Jfc. Just nope. Not engaging with idiots who think they know everything.

£10k, 9 full days work in total over a two week period. Old bathroom ripped out, two walls taken back to brick and replastered, other walls and ceiling skimmed, false wall created for pipes etc, fully tiled two walls, half tiled two walls, painted, new electrics and lighting. Fitted walk in shower, sink, toilet and bath. Tiled floor. £10k includes everything, bath was £3k of that!
You seem to be looking to justify charging higher prices (fair enough, you do you) but there are great fitters out there doing the work for much less profit

Anjea · 12/02/2024 17:52

I honestly hope no one helps you, you're so rude and there is no need for it at all.

Pootle40 · 12/02/2024 17:54

£11.5k: items moved, wall taken down, freestanding bath, porcelanosa tiles all over

If you want future proof and it done properly you’re looking at around 15K for high quality finish.
