Husband says no one has curtains these days

My husband talks scathingly about curtains, saying they are 'old fashioned' and 'you won't see them in any interior design magazine'. I think he's absolutely wrong, and likely people are even more likely to have curtains these days, with energy bills being so high. We have roller blinds throughout. It looks rubbish and our heating bills are high.

So who's right, in your opinion?

I have shutter blinds and curtains ..... the blinds aren't great for keeping it completely black so we have both & the curtains keep it warmer

Love my curtains! Especially in winter when they help keep the heat in and cosy up the room. They dress a room beautifully compared to just blinds. I know cos I have both. You’re right, he’s wrong!

Curtains are definitely still a thing & you will find a reference in any decent interior design mag.

Oooww I have curtains - when we moved into this house it was just blinds the wooden slat ones and the draughts weee ridiculous . Now have curtains as well as the blinds and it makes such a difference .

you can get really nice curtains they don’t have to be pjs fashioned at all

I have blinds and curtains in some rooms, blinds can still let a bit of light in and the draught x

You are right that most people still have curtains. We have in both bedrooms and in the living rooms, my friends have them too, not in bathrooms and kitchens though. Your DH might be right about magazines but we don’t live in show homes we live in real ones.

We favour curtains. Friends recently installed roller blinds in their new house but are regretful as they keep catching/ are hard to get down.

I'd love shutters for the front room but these are out of price range for now!

We have curtains and blinds. The blinds have gotten wrecked easily and catch. They looked nice new but now they're grubby and hard to clean. Prefer curtains any day, but combining blinds with curtains is better for insulation purposes. Some types of blinds are better than others.

We have perfect fit blinds and no curtains , husband is of same opinion but I think it’s mainly he doesn’t want the hassle of putting up the rails etc in new build

Roller blinds are ok in kitchens and bathrooms, shutters are nice but I much prefer curtains, windows look so bare without them.
You are right, your husband is wrong.

Blinds and curtains here too. The windows look naked without curtains. In my living room, I have dress curtains. They are just for show and are never closed.

I like curtains because they provide privacy. I even like net curtains for the same reason.

Our neighbours opposite have no curtains in their lounge and upstairs landing. If I look out of my bedroom window I can see what they are watching on their TV and also putting the kids to bed.
