Help me tie in a mad purchase colour wise please

Have been looking for a new sofa for our small sitting room, Dh and I use it all the time when on our own in evenings. We had an old eBay purchased leather sofa and I wanted to replace it.
Saw a lovely sofa on eBay and just up the road so impulsively bought it and now I'm worried it's going to clash horribly with the wallpaper. Changing wallpaper is not happening as I love it, sorry if you don't , can and will change curtains as have done a good job for 25 years 🤣
Any advice welcome, thinking new curtains, cushions etc

It's actually fine with the curtains but not the wallpaper. There is no rescuing that. One will have to go: for me the wallpaper!

Oh no !
Sofa will have to go

I think it will be ok!!!

booksandbrooks · 19/08/2023 19:41

You can buy sofa covers online that are a bit like fitted sheets. You could cover the base and change the cushion covers? Or cover the whole thing.

KittytheHare · 19/08/2023 19:42

I think sofa is ok with wallpaper but the curtains should be replaced. They definitely don’t go with the wallpaper!

PermanentTemporary · 19/08/2023 19:45

I'd start with oatmeal curtains and go from there.

Badtasteflump · 19/08/2023 19:47

The curtains need to go! I like blue & green together so the sofa & wallpaper are fine, the pink curtains are too much though. I would go neutral with curtains - the beige or creamy colour of the flowers in the wallpaper maybe.

Is it Sanderson/William Morris Honeysuckle wallpaper?

If so, cover up the sofa with a throw. I love the wallpaper, too.

Or, if desperate, make the bolster cushions from this fabric . You could also make some square ones in the same fabric but also with a blue border in the same colour as 5e sofa.

RachelsHere · 19/08/2023 19:48

Yes, the curtains don't go with the wallpaper in the first place. The sofa will be fine with the wallpaper and different curtains.

Aquamarine1029 · 19/08/2023 19:51

The curtains are the madness, not the couch.

Ohshitiveturnedintomymother · 19/08/2023 19:52

Who cares if your sofa matches your wallpaper???

if you love both then have both

life is too short to a) match things and b) worry about what other people think

HaroldMeaker · 19/08/2023 19:53

Yes to sofa, yes to wallpaper, curtains are … wrong.

Ok
Thanks
Curtains will go
In my defence they are/ were burgundy rather than pink . They are a bit faced and also colour not quite coming out in pictures .
Will have a look at more neutral option

'Dh and I use it all the time when on our own in evenings'

The cheapest option would be to remove the lightbulb from the room and then you won't see if anything clashes.

I don't actually need to do that as Dh turns light off on entering room to save electricity 🤣

I agree - plain beige/off-white curtains might rescue this.

I'd personally go a shade lighter than what has been suggested.

Cabbagey · 19/08/2023 20:30

I'd get blue curtains that match the sofa

I'd be very happy with the sofa and wallpaper (blue and green's a dream) but the curtains have to go. As a comfort I don't think they go with the wallpaper anyway.

oobedobe · 19/08/2023 21:31

just buy some accent pillows in pale pink and soft green to tie it in with the wallpaper. Curtains should be light neutral colour

I think they did 25 years ago pre fading
So do you agree cream ?
Or radical navy to match sofa as suggested ?

I'd pick the same pink as in the wallpaper, and get cushions for the sofa in either the same William Morris pattern or a different pattern but in the same green and pink. Get 1 large green item, like a pouffe or armchair, and 1 small blue item, like a lampshade, to balance the colours.
