Have been looking for a new sofa for our small sitting room, Dh and I use it all the time when on our own in evenings. We had an old eBay purchased leather sofa and I wanted to replace it.
Saw a lovely sofa on eBay and just up the road so impulsively bought it and now I'm worried it's going to clash horribly with the wallpaper. Changing wallpaper is not happening as I love it, sorry if you don't , can and will change curtains as have done a good job for 25 years 🤣
Any advice welcome, thinking new curtains, cushions etc

And get green fringe for the sofa that matches the wallpaper. Fringes have their moment and would pull the more modern sofa into the arts and crafts era. You could then also get a pink cushion that matches wallpaper and curtains and fringe that. If you want to go to design extremes to pull in the blue, get a blue chord and look what Nina Campbell does: she often glues a died rope along skirting, architraves and corners of the walls in an accent colour.

Yup navy or neutral curtains, or a weave with all the colours in to bring it together.

Or dye the curtains possibly?

NellyBarney · 21/08/2023 20:37

I'm with Pokemon in sofar as the curtains are definitely better than beige/neutral. You have an arts and crafts wallpaper. That's not something you style with beige/neutral.

I guess I'm the only person who likes the curtains with the wallpaper... I'd try the sofa in the room and see how it looks. It makes me think of Ben Pentreath's interiors.

Oh I love that style

Have gone for pink, they did need replacing, have lasted 25 years and very faded
Will put picture when up

This is a pretty good example of the spirit of William Morris style. The bolder, the better, and while balancing things and pulling things in is always good, a little clash is part of the scheme.

I love all of that
Don't have the flair to pull it off though !

You can afford a bit of a clash with William Morris. This is our snug as we were decorating.

I love your wallpaper and I think the sofa and wallpaper will look fab together. Get rid of curtains perhaps roller blind or plain shutters?

Whyohwhyohwhy123 · 22/08/2023 06:30

Sofa and wall paper will be fine. You need curtains and cushions that have both the sofa colour in them and the wall paper colours or at least some of them.
plus a few other well chosen accessories

hylian · 22/08/2023 06:33

The wallpaper's OK but the curtains don't go with it at all, let alone the sofa.

Get some curtains to match the sofa and it will look great.

MBappse · 22/08/2023 06:41

I would pick the darker colours from the wallpaper for the curtains. A lovely green in the same depth of shade as rhe blue sofa. Then some green mixed texture cushions for the sofa.

LibertyLily · 22/08/2023 12:31

Pink curtains sound good @rowbotham!

I love Ben Pentreath's interior style - and for many years we had completely Arts & Crafts/Art Nouveau interiors ourselves, but we've now embraced the eclectic a bit more!

I've posted these pics before (and it's obviously not all in one room, but shows how we've mixed blues, greens and pink in our current house) - the hall has William Morris Strawberry Thief wallpaper in indigo, ceiling is F&B Inchyra Blue estate emulsion and the bathroom (temporarily sans door) is F&B Setting Plaster eggshell/estate emulsion. The bathroom curtains are Voyage and we have loads of blue/green/pink accessories in both spaces....

The curtains, sofa and wallpaper go well together. Maybe replace the plain blue cushion with something that has the pink from the curtains and green from the wallpaper.
I'd change the rug!

LibertyLily · 23/08/2023 09:43

Thank you @rowbotham! Your new sofa and pink curtains look lovely!

I agree with @DancingToMyTune and would get one (or two - you can never have too many!) more colourful cushion(s) that replicates the wallpaper colours...and - whilst your rug is lovely - would look for a larger one that preferably contains some green and blue.

We found a fabulous large, vintage, Persian rug on ebay a few years back - it is unusual in that (among others) the colours it comprises are olive, cerise and teal. You can also get some amazing contemporary coloured Persian style rugs from many sources - we bought one from Irugs that we're very pleased with.

Mumsanetta · 23/08/2023 10:04

Love the wallpaper and sofa together! You could also try a pale duck egg for curtains.

Pink cushions, blue curtains would look lovely

WouldYouLikeYourMuffinButtered · 23/08/2023 15:36

And change the rug

GertrudeJekyllAndHyde · 23/08/2023 15:39

Keep the William Morris wallpaper and the sofa. Ditch the curtains. Make/acquire some William Morris cushions.

NellyBarney · 23/08/2023 16:42

That's lovely!

rowbotham · 23/08/2023 23:32

Done for now
Will sort new rug at some point but moving on to next room now !
Very much appreciate all your input, thank you
