Are corner sofas naff?

Ok - so I’d like a corner sofa, but struggling to find one I like that isn’t mega expensive.

however, there seems to be very limited options ( I don’t want the ones with the chaise longer stuck at the end).

however, am beginning to wonder why there aren’t that many- are they just a bit shit?

how comfortable are they?

They're great and in some houses are best use of the space available. 👌

I think they are less common because they are a less versatile in terms of positioning so aren't as broad appeal as they won't go in any house like a pair of straight sofas will.

But in the right spot that doesn't matter.

Have you tried sofology, they usually have a good range.

The corner was a total waste.
No one ever actually sat in that bit so in reality it was a large piece of furniture taking up room where two sofas or a sofa and armchair gave more space.

@PimpMyFridge looking at sofology now!

@ThereIsAnEchoInHere was that because it wasn’t comfy?

We have one as it was the best fit in our living room.

Love it, very comfy, and the corner is prime spot for telly watching in our family - I guess it depends how it’s facing

Leftoverssandwich · 14/05/2023 23:18

We fight over our corner, and we can all fit on ours, which is nice.

BrieAndChilli · 14/05/2023 23:20

We have a corner - it’s quite deep and one with lots of back cushions that can be moved around.

corner is often utilised! There are 5 of us and now we have 3 teens we can still all sit on the sofa comfortably with no-one being squished.

Beaverbridge · 14/05/2023 23:20

I like the look of them, only problem is everyone in the one place.

ComeTheFuckOnBridgett · 14/05/2023 23:21

We have one! Everyone has their own section on the sofa. I like it better than our old ones.

Snipples · 14/05/2023 23:23

Have a look at snug sofas. We have a large corner and we can convert it into a two and three seater if we want (we actually started out that way and then added the corner section to make one massive sofa). Everyone fights over the corner bit. We love it.

PimpMyFridge · 14/05/2023 23:27

In my sister's house the corner is the prized spot everyone wants. 🤣

NewbieSoberista · 14/05/2023 23:29

I wouldn't like one as I don't like everyone sitting on the same sofa for some reason. I also like rearranging my living room sometimes and think a corner sofa wouldn't allow me to do that

QueSyrahSyrah · 14/05/2023 23:30

We have a massive one (that I bought with the flat from the previous owner as it's such a perfect fit). DH can both fully lie down on it at the same time and it's big enough to serve as a 'spare bed' in our one bedroom flat if needed. A adult can sleep flat out comfortably on it like a single bed.

We've been toying with switching to a 2 seat couch and chair to make the room look bigger when we come to sell but it's just so comfy...

musixa · 14/05/2023 23:33

I love them and lament my lack of a suitable corner to accommodate one.

teabycandlelight · 14/05/2023 23:39

@Snipples just had a look at snug- the Cloud sundae looks amazing!

Thanks everyone- feeling very reassured by these responses! I’ve suspected the corner was my perfect seat.

there’s just three of us, so not a massive fight for sofa space

We've contemplated getting one twice now and each time opted for two sofas with a lamp table in the between where the corner of an L shaped sofa would be. We reckoned we'd miss the arm rests, the lamp and somewhere to put a cup of tea. Just personal preference though and depends what else is in the room.

JaninaDuszejko · 15/05/2023 18:20

I think in the right space it works great, they are really good for snugs or small sitting rooms so everyone gets a good view of the TV. Also good for large open plan spaces where they are useful to define and separate the different areas of the room. I think if you have a bay window or a medium sized sitting room then they become restrictive in comparison to standard sofas or armchairs.

That’s the set up I have now, but hoovering the space where the table is is annoying me! 😄

I have always longed for a corner sofa. But yes, they are naff.

Qbish · 15/05/2023 19:39

Unless it's Roche Bobois, I guess.

Mushroo · 15/05/2023 19:42

They are a bit naff if they take up the whole room. They look much nicer if they’re in a huge open plan living kitchen diner thing and the sofa kind of acts as a divide between the areas.

That said, I have one in the first category and it’s so comfy and I love it 😂

Ah, see, my standards are much too low to be annoyed by thatGrin

Yerroblemom1923 · 15/05/2023 19:49

Yes, naff AF.

Leftoverssandwich · 15/05/2023 19:59

I think ours probably is quite naff but it’s very comfortable and I love it.

PuttingDownRoots · 15/05/2023 20:08

Our living room isn't big enough for two sofas, so it works well for us (its a narrow room).

Its your house. You've got to make it work for you. Even when we did have two sofas in our previous house we often all ended up on one anyway!

The corner is brilliant for curling up with a book.
