Curtains help - pic of dog included!

Name changed for this.

we moved house last year and I’ve finally taken the old curtains down.

Id bought some pinkish/blush ones and was about to put them up but now I’m looking at the window and it looks a lot brighter without curtains. You can see down to the water and the hills in the distance. Any curtains can’t be floor length as they’d cover the radiator.

would you:

a) put up the blush curtains that were bought today

b) order a roller blind

c) just leave it with the blinds that are there (although we’re in a cold part of the country so poss not the best idea)

d) do something else

e) let the dog decide

its a big window (3m+) so can’t really get Roman blinds as all the manufacturers I checked stopped below 3m

any wise words welcome!

Have you properly measured, maybe it’s the picture but that window doesn’t look ten foot wide..

Blindsorcurtains · 06/05/2023 21:18

Yes sorry it’s the picture it’s 303cm in the recess.

I don’t think the attached pic makes it any clearer but have measured it and double checked.

Wow, ok, I’d remove the vertical blinds and add the curtains to be honest,,

AndrexPuppy · 06/05/2023 21:21

Yes, get rid of the awful office verticals and put the curtains up.

Blindsorcurtains · 06/05/2023 21:22

thanks yes that’s a good idea - the vertical blinds also here when we got here but are a faff and rarely used

I've just taken my curtains down to redecorate and I also can't believe how much more light it let's in with no curtains even though i never draw my curtains and just have them tied back for show. like you I have vertical blinds. Yours looks fine with no curtains but if you need them for warmth maybe you could just put them up in the winter months. My friend has voile up just for decoration aswell as her vertical blinds.

Blindsorcurtains · 06/05/2023 21:24

My helper is useless. Looks like I’m on my own doing this.

I like vertical blinds lol!

Davros · 06/05/2023 21:26

You know how to get people to read your thread! I looked for the lovely dog but, now I'm here, I agree to get rid of the vile verticals and put up the curtains

theblackradiator · 06/05/2023 21:27

I'd feel like I was too much on show without my verticals my house is more overlooked than yours though.

Blindsorcurtains · 06/05/2023 21:28

@theblackradiator each to their own! I kept them as thought it might be hand when we want some privacy but light let in. And it basically means I have to move things off the window ledge every time I want to close them. Which means I never use them!

Sorry, I only clicked on to see your dog... Hi poochie! We do have very wide windows in a 70s box and have roller blinds and a voile behind.

Blindsorcurtains · 06/05/2023 21:28

@davros yes a tactical dog pic😂

Anything but the vertical blinds because they are hideous .

Belle96 · 06/05/2023 21:33

You can get a roman blind to fit this size of window, honestly you can. But another option is shutters, they would look lush on those windows.
As for keeping the warm in, perfect fits!
I have similar Windows and even tho I went for the perfect fits, I still have curtains too, I only have them up in the winter months to help keep the warm in!

Blindsorcurtains · 06/05/2023 21:36

Well the dog thinks I’m having some sort of breakdown on a Saturday night but my god it looks better without the blinds already

No idea about the curtains, sorry, but ddog is gorgeous.

SkaneTos · 06/05/2023 21:41

That is the most adorable dachshund!

Blindsorcurtains · 06/05/2023 21:45

“Mum it’s Saturday night. What is this? Why is there a pole?”

StamppotAndGravy · 06/05/2023 21:54

Get a much longer pole so that the curtains are against the wall when they're open. That way you don't lose any window.

The dog has some sense. Don't get involved in DIY

Jolenetookmyman · 06/05/2023 21:59

We have big 3m 1960s windows too. Weve decided on white wooden horizontal blinds for privacy with floor length dress curtains to soften the room. We are unlikely to close them as the radiators are under the window like yours.

boscabosco · 06/05/2023 22:01

awww beautiful dog, can't advise on your curtains, only came to thread to see your helper
