Looking for a picture to go on a plain white wall above my bed. I have a grey/pinky sort of theme and on the wall opposite is a Steven brown canvas or rainbow colours with trees.

Nope. Art is a hand-sewn couture dress or a Savile Row suit. Unique or hand-produced in small numbers. What the OP has posted is the equivalent of mass-produced dress available on the High Street.

If that's the kind of thing you like then that's fine, but it's not art, it's decorative design.

You sound quite ridiculous.

Don't expect anyone to take you seriously when you post such nonsense. Many people on MN will be pretty knowledgeable about many different forms of art. You, I'm afraid, just sound like one of those people at the pub quiz who thinks they know better than everyone else and everyone avoids like the plague.

Thelnebriati · 03/05/2023 11:54

@teaandtoastwithmarmite If your room is pink and grey you might find the print has too much orange.
There are websites and apps that will help you match up colours and suggest a palette, I recommend you use one and enter the colours you already have in the room.

Cheers, I needed a good laugh.

Love it op, absolutely beautiful!

SparklyBlackKitten · 03/05/2023 13:08

I hate it
But I dont have to look at it. You do 😅
If it makes YOU happy then who cares what other people think

Buy it right now. Or you'll end up regretting not buying it. buy it 😊

IsThePopeCatholic · 03/05/2023 14:35

I find it naff, I’m afraid. Also, I’m not sure artworks are meant to blend in with your decor. They’re about much more than that.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 03/05/2023 18:06

Goodness me. Just had a notification about my username being mentioned and seen this thread has really gone a bit mad 🤣. Appreciate all your opinions even the quite frankly snobby ones. And yes I saw a really lovely picture from an art gallery that was about 5 times the price and I don't have that kind of money but as you were! I have a care bear on my bed that dd bought me so I guess I do have a kids room 🤣🤣

Oh hark at all the art experts on here giving their snippy 'if you like mass produced' type comments. They will of course only entertain a genuine Monet and original pieces sourced from local galleries and painted with the tears of angels, in their homes. 😂

Brilliant 🤣

I’m not overly keen on either the Dunelm or JL picture, but each to their own and the JL is definitely nicer.

You’ve already got a Steven Brown canvas, so would you not consider another one? I’ve got a few and love them. There are so many to choose from, even not counting the McCoo range. I love the Purple Forest, it’s so peaceful looking and would look great in a pink/grey room

or there’s Waterfall Hearts

Ooh they're nice. I do already have 3 in my house though so was going for something different plus I got JL vouchers now appreciate the idea though. Thank you

The painter Sara Otter sells directly via her own online shop and Facebook. She's a friend of a friend and seems an amazing person whether you like her paintings or not.

This thread is in a mumsnet section called "home decoration", is it not?
I don't think there is an art section, but you could ask MNHQ to start one if you wish.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 05/05/2023 12:30

I'm actually really put off this picture now. I thought some of the comments were amusing but now it's put me off it 🙈

Leaning towards this I found this at John Lewis & Partners. What do you think? https://www.johnlewis.com/catherine-stephenson-hope-orchard-embellished-framed-print-112-x-57cm/p2741244?tmad=c&tmcampid=7&sshare=jlappioss_Y29tLmFwcGxlLlVJS2l0LmFjdGl2aXR5LkNvcHlUb1Bhc3RlYm9hcmQ=

That's worse than the original one imo 🙈 but honestly OP it doesn't matter what anybody on here thinks, it's you that will be looking at it! You're never going to get a consensus on artwork. Choose something you love and who cares whether others do too.

FayCarew · 05/05/2023 14:06

If you like it, get it. It's not my taste or budget, but it's not me who'll be looking at it.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 05/05/2023 15:02

Gosh- ok I think I'm going to stop posting on here now

We're trying to help by saying it's us who won't be looking at it!

And there's a lot more consideration as to what you put on your wall as to whether anybody here objectively likes it or not. We can't see the room and even if everybody agreed the picture was lovely, who knows if it would look right or not - is it the right size and orientation for where you plan to put it? Does it complement the style in the room, does it help create the feeling you want in there? We just don't know. There's things on my living room wall that I wouldn't have in the bedroom and vice versa.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 05/05/2023 15:44

Oh I know that! I wasn't being arsey. Sorry if it came across like that and I appreciate you explaining. I found the posts I read yesterday quite funny actually so it's all good. In fact one person said maybe get another Steven brown and I have seen a lovely one then my DH said it's a bit purple 😂. I just meant I will take all the views on board and rethink. There's a lovely gallery in my town but the pics there are very expensive and I'm trying to save to buy a house. Plus got the John Lewis vouchers now. Thanks 😊

Oh and bedroom is a sort of dark grey and pink scheme but I have this on the other wall opposite my bed so quite a bit of colour there www.stevenbrownart.co.uk/products/forest-of-argyle-canvases

Honestly if it were me I would spend the JL vouchers on clothes - or maybe something lovely for the bedroom like some new bedding, quilt etc.

Then get yourself on etsy and buy a print on there for literally a fraction of the cost. Get the frame you like separately. There's been some stupid snobbery on here about prints which I would ignore. I've got "real art" but I've got a lot of framed prints too and they all look fabulous imo!

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 05/05/2023 15:52

Thanks @Bimbom I will re evaluate. I would love some 'real art'. I do have a Picasso line drawing print though lol
