Patterned carpet - am I mad?

Hi everyone!
I'm looking to replace my hall, stairs and landing carpet. I’d like something hard wearing and forgiving, such as an axminster. I’ve seen a patterned carpet called Brintons Timorous Beasties Collection Noir Ruskin Butterfly. Am I crazy getting a patterned carpet? It looks like a ‘modern’ take on a patterned carpet.

What are your thoughts? Does it look too old fashioned?

It’s not awful.
Have you thought about a striped carpet for the stairs?

Dontfuckingsaycheese · 15/01/2023 23:16

Love it but it’s black! That’ll show all the bits. Unless you are a constant hooverer.

Whatevergetsyouthroughthenight · 15/01/2023 23:19

Not awful but I think I would get bored of/it would date very quickly, it’s a bit like a strong feature wall but for your stairs. I would prefer stripes if you want a bit of pattern. Textured finish is another alternative.

TwoBigNoisyBoys · 15/01/2023 23:20

I think it’s nice in the third picture, as a runner, but I’m not too keen on it on the other pictures as a fully fitted carpet. I do think patterned carpet are due a comeback so you’ll be ahead of everyone else!

YukoandHiro · 15/01/2023 23:21

It's not for me. We've just had a bold striped carpet put in for the stairs and I love it (similar bannister)

Wizzpopfizzbang · 15/01/2023 23:21

Sorry not keen … but it’s not my staircase!

Letsrunabath · 15/01/2023 23:23

Love it, but I love patterns. I have no carpets in my home but if I was to choose I’d go with you.

Luckingfovely · 15/01/2023 23:36

I think it's lovely but how it will look will depend entirely on the rest of the house.

It the house is sleek, modern, well-edited, then the carpet will stand out as a stunning, quirky, modern feature.

If the rest of the house is a bit dated, has older furniture and traditional fixings, then it will look like it's been there since 1972.

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 15/01/2023 23:38

I don't like it at all. Looks very old fashioned. Plus as someone else has pointed out the black will show every piece of fluff and dirt. Stripes would be better if you wanted to add some colour and pattern.

NOT STRIPES

they’re so 2010

I tried really hard to get a patterned carpet boy gave up. Either naff or stripes.

Outfor150 · 15/01/2023 23:42

I like it a lot, especially as a runner. Definitely don’t get stripes.

Lovemydoggiesomuch · 15/01/2023 23:43

We have stripes on stair carpet…absolutely lovely!

Why are stripes 2010 specifically 🤔

Mossstitch · 15/01/2023 23:47

I was already to shriek noooo, thinking of all the red and gold monstrosities I've had to get rid of over many years of moving house, until I saw the photos but actually I think that's quite tasteful. I'm a natural wood floor/quarry tiles kind of person or a wool berber if carpet is a must (and I really think the striped carpet phase is already looking dated🤐)

pavillion1 · 15/01/2023 23:53

i think its so close to being cool but not quite enough .. it really doesn't matter what i think if you like it .

pavillion1 · 15/01/2023 23:55

i dont think the banister gives it the best chance

Girlintheframe · 16/01/2023 00:07

It's a no from me. Think it will date quickly too

dogmum93 · 16/01/2023 00:07

No, I think it looks really dated and fuddy.
Also, my mum has stripes and where people go up and down constantly over time they start looking more like waves. Just worth knowing that I think, if considering this it might get warped and stripes also warp.

QueenOfHiraeth · 16/01/2023 00:14

I love it and really wish patterned carpets would come back in!

I am so bored of plain carpets that show every bit of muck and stripes which seem to be compulsory for stairs. Roll on the return of patterns!

pocketvenuss · 16/01/2023 00:23

The irony of people saying the carpet looks old fashioned and then suggesting stripes

Hariborrrrr · 16/01/2023 00:30

I really don't like it. It will definitely show up all the bits and I just really don't like the pattern, reminds me of feature walls 10 years ago

Hariborrrrr · 16/01/2023 00:33

It actually looks like someone has had a dreadful accident 🙈 sorry, please don't do this to your stairs! 😬

StripeyBedSocks · 16/01/2023 03:39

I like it. I have had the yellow version in my Pinterest for ages. I would just do the stairs though and maybe the landing.

Dontfuckingsaycheese · 16/01/2023 12:09

I love love love my stripes! Some people love patterns (see also boots in pic!)
I loved patterns in 2010 and I still love them today. Dates won’t change that! Not interested in fashion. However I am absolutely overjoyed that animal prints have become more mainstream and therefore more available and even acceptable as workwear. If my SLT are wearing (fancy and expensive) animal print frocks they can’t baulk at my lizard boots, leopard boots, leopard skirt, giraffe skirt ❤️❤️❤️

It does look old-fashioned, but ultimately it’s your house!
