DH “in love” and “buying” table I’m unconvinced on

Hello mumsnetters,

My DH and I have just moved into a new apartment & and we’re starting from scratch with furniture. He has fallen for a circular dining table - walnut with silver legs - that just seems very dark for a small apartment. Grateful for your thoughts on this table and how it would look in this room...

Show us a pic of it in the space - from as far back as possible not close up?

I think it looks lovely, and wonder if the “too dark, too bulky” vibe is because you don’t have much else in the space yet?

(OTOH, if it’s going to fetch a great price and he’s no longer in love with it, sell it before you have DC who can devalue it... Grin)

Your flooring and the apartment are lovely.

Oh my goodness, it’s lovely!!!! Total midcentury design classic, astounded by some of the comments here. If you can make it work in the space, I really would - something like a wishbone chair or other Wegner (repro...) design would work. Absolutely no reason whatsoever why it can’t work stylistically in a period apartment either. Good Lord, I’m off for a wee lie down to recover from my table envy...

I don’t think the legs and the top go together.

@VenusClapTrap

It’s very stylish, very European.
Florence Knoll was American.

OP you need to join a house decor facebook group. You will get loads of advice. Don't go down the mid century look if you don't absolutely love it otherwise all the furniture you own will be of a type ( not a bad type but a type) meaning you are pretty committed to that style.

Also I agree with others it has a traditional New York apartment feel to it so I would use that to help with Google inspiration.

There’s absolutely nothing wrong with mixing styles.

Let him have his table. Im sure you will pick stuff he dosnt really like but you do.

Palaver1 · 29/12/2020 18:41

I think its really nice the legs are a modern twist .
I'd love to see flat when it's finished and congratulations

I like but I love a bit of retro style. Maybe best to let him choose table. You can choose sofa and rug hehe
Chairs, go for molded wood ones with matching metal legs, will look cool but must be same shade. Add crazy bright fruit bowl. Hope you have a lovely move in day.

If you still hate in few years, spray paint legs.
