Grouting regrets

Grouting in the bathroom has just gone up. I saw it and burst into tears.

Tiles are light grey. Grout is very beige.

Tiler happens to be my dad and he convinced me that it was a neutral colour and would blend in seamlessly ... It hasn't, it's fucking beige.

What am I going to do?!

I know realistically re-grout the bloody room but he's saying I'll just have to get used to it... Why did I bother buying new tiles just to have the final effect ruined?!

Can you post a picture? I can’t think why it would look so bad.
If you really want to change it you can just dye it with something like this

It looks bad because it's a warm beige against a cool grey. It clashes.

Maybe it will look better in the morning, but right now it looks awful.

I would have used white!!

Thisismytimetoshine · 10/06/2020 18:11

It might dry differently. Are they floor tiles?

SparrowInTheHedge · 10/06/2020 18:17

It's the same all over, just different sizes.

I wish I'd just insisted on white or grey.

That looks bad, I'm sorry, what a pain.

Northernsoullover · 10/06/2020 18:20

Can you grout white over the top of it?

TinklyLittleLaugh · 10/06/2020 18:23

Looks dirty or mouldy. Can you grout over it? Worth a try. If not can you scrape it out?

Isaidnomorecrisps · 10/06/2020 18:27

Wow I gasped when I saw it - I’m sorry !!! (And I’m no queen in the home...)
Nice job though.....

TheHobbitMum · 10/06/2020 18:30

Sorry OP you are right, it does look wrong, almost dirty. Can you try the grout rescue stuff to change the colour? If not I'd have to regrout or you'll have your new bathroom as you'll only see the beige

xxKatie9806xx · 10/06/2020 18:34

You’re not going to be able to ignore it so I would say to your dad you’re very sorry but it has to be redone and if he won’t do it, get someone else to come and regrout it. Will be worth it when it’s done.
You have my sympathy as we made a mistake on the colour of our floor grout but it’s like our whole downstairs so can’t change it.
I would recommend light grey not white as white will look nice for a while but may get dirty.

SoupDragon · 10/06/2020 18:36

Live with it for a bit and, if you still hate it, just use one of the grout colourant things.

Thisbastardcomputer · 10/06/2020 18:39

Seriously, you burst into tears over grout !

Live with it a bit, it wouldn't show the dirt and discolour, like white will.

BestOption · 10/06/2020 18:39

I'm sorry, but I agree with you, that's dreadful!!

Mine is grey and I love it. It looks white in the photo, but it's not.

If your Dad Won't regrout it for you, then either do it yourself (it's not difficult) or pay someone. It'll be worth it!

Ahh yes, it does look bad. Did you watch the video in the link on how to dye it?

vinoelle · 10/06/2020 18:43

I would recommend grey grout. Since the tiles are in place surely it would be really easy to just regroup it yourself? Wouldn’t be expensive either? Can’t you just put a thin layer over the top?

vinoelle · 10/06/2020 18:44

*regrout

I have no idea! I don't want to ask him either.

When I said I wasn't sure about the colour he blew up at me, said I wasn't happy with anything, it looked fine, and I'd have to get used to it.

OP I don’t think grouting is actually that hard so say thanks to your dad and then look at some YouTube videos and do it yourself

Wokeuptwirly · 10/06/2020 19:50

Fair play to your dad...grouting that finely takes real skill! However, you’re right - it doesn’t look great. Could you just go over it with a grout pen? Scraping it out and starting over is likely to be nigh on impossible with that narrow a gap 😢

AnnaSW1 · 10/06/2020 19:56

Ah that's a shame. It does look bad. Shame as it looks like a good job too.

NameChangedToProtect1 · 10/06/2020 20:00

I like it! But perhaps I have no taste!
Looks like kera jasmine, it will pale in 48hours. Re grouting is an issue. Thin layers will most likley flake out. The problem with scraping or finding it out is that you either stay away from the edge of the tile and leave traces of the old colour or touch inevitably damage the edge of the tile. Some people swear blind that their regrouting looks great...
Honestly I think it will look great tomorrow.

jellytots2020 · 10/06/2020 20:00

I think you can use a grouting pen over the top, I've seen them on Instagram and they look like they paint over and renew old grout? Might be worth a try before redoing it all 🤷🏻‍♀️

CompletelyFUBAR · 10/06/2020 20:05

I would grout with anthracite grey. Probably quite easy to go over that and do so.. Harder if you were going dark to light. I would be upset too.
