Would you rather have an island or a utility room?

A kitchen island that is. My kitchen currently has a utility room with washer/dryer, sink and cabinets. If we knocked the walls down, we could keep the cabinets and would have room for an island. It's not a small kitchen so we have enough cabinet space and there's already a kitchen table so it's an aesthetics thing rather than a functional thing. Just wondering how strong the love of islands is right now.

I have a tiny utility room that I designed to squeeze into the extension. It just fits the washing machine and tumble dryer stacked on top of each other, a tall cupboard for hoover, mops and broom. A steel sink for washing muddy boots, pet bowls and bleaching/soaking things. We have an old fashioned ceiling air dryer and then dozens of hooks all over the one wall to hang loads of things up. It is a bit of a dumping ground but so so easy as all the clothes and pet stuff is out of the kitchen area. No island as it wouldn't fit but we have a small breakfast bar which is fine. I'd definitely go for a utility room over another surface.

Utility

Utility room. I don't like islands or peninsulas at all.

Much prefer a Utility. Wouldnt have an island as they just create the look of an autopsy about to take place!

Utility - there is no point having an open plan huge kitchen with all your laundry on show.

Utility 100%! Sad as it is, but I love ours and being able to shut it off from the kitchen when I want too.

Don't be crazy - for me a utility is an essential room (I wouldn't have a house without one)
an island is an extra if you have some room and suits the space , never really saw the attraction for 75% of the ones I see

Utility room. I keep a big basket of ironing out there(hidden behind an under-counter curtain.Wink

Utility room. I would love one.

Utility. Always! I have an island & am getting rid of it when redoing our kitchen. I dream of having a utility room.

Utility! Not that I have one, and have two small peninsulas instead, but that was a compromise given the odd layout of my ground floor.
Choice between utility and island, utility wins hands-down.
