Is there such thing as truly warm grey?

My living room is south facing however I think the window is too small and out room can seem dark on a grey day.

My living room was a pale brown, thanks to an incorrect colour match when Ioved in two years ago which I could work with.

I got samples and painted my living room in B&Qs own 'GoodHome' paint in 'Hamptons'. It was a very icy blue, gorgeous as a nautical blue grey but not for my cosy living room 😔 pic attached.

I repainted in Goosedown by Dulux, though still a cool grey, the samples were promising and look warmer. This corner yet again has icy blue undertones to it 😕

I can't live with it unless by some miracle the blue shades tone down overnight. My husband is going to (metaphorically) kill me.

I've ruled out via testers:

Dulux Polished Pebble
Dulux Pebble Shore
Dulux White Just Walnut
Dulux White Mist

Valspar Shetland Sweater

Wilko Whisper Grey

And several others. Must be a Dulux or Goodhome paint ideally. Crown possibly. Prefer off the shelf for quality control though. I won't use F&B as can't roller it on.
I wasn't a fan of Valspars true greys (black and white mix).

Dulux Perfectly Taupe seems a touch too beige. I really want a grey that looks grey but with subtle beige undertones.

Has anyone else struggled so much with dingy South facing rooms? The cool toens are supposed to balance out the warm sunshine tones we supposedly get!

It's the light that changes the tone of grey.

Unless you want to drive yourself mad, I would focus on adding warmth with furniture, pictures and furnishings.

Shades of orange and brown go very well with cool blue.

I am thinking of going with Dulux Heritage silver fern which I have been told is slightly warmer - greenish grey. Unfortunately I can't find pictures on web of overall look but tester looks nice.

I mixed the testers together to get the exact shade I wanted. Painted a piece of board, took it to B&Q and had the paint mixed.

Armstead which is dulux trade paint in swansdown is lovely in our south facing lounge, we have the dulux polished pebble in the bedrooms and I find it looks cold compared to the lounge.

I have Dulux perfectly taupe. Looks grey at times. Looks pink at times. Looks grey-brown at imes. I like it, also in a south facing room.

Dulux Perfectly Taupe works well for our room, where it is a lovely warm grey in the day but is more beigey grey in the artificial light in the evenings, so it feels cosy despite being grey. Love it!

Little Greene has a million colours and is lovely quality paint.

There is also Earthborn Marbles which is not grey but an unusual warm grey/beige combo (I really don't think I've described it well though!) We have it in our hall, stairs and landing and it's lovely.

I had perfectly taupe in my old house and will use it again in my new one! It's great, as op said it changes colour as the light changes, lovely warm colour and if you pair it with other greys it seems greyer iyswim!

Dulux Nutmeg white is a warm greige.

I'll have to look into these. Painted again, and it's got a god awful yellow tinge and I'm so sick of this I'm tempted to paint the walls white and be done with it! The room is a nightmare, this colour was picked from about 30 colour swatches, didn't Tester but only because we've testered until the cows come home and DH has made digs about how much I've spent on testers. No matter where I put the testers in the room I'm coming up with a completely different overall look. I've never known it be such hardwork, only ever in this room.

This is Valspar Putty White, I imagine it similar to Just Walnut by Dulux.

This is how the Goosedown looked, very similar to the first colour Hamptons by Goodhome(B&Q) but darker.

B&q will mix any colour for you, I had them mix a copy of f&b blackened which is a lovely soft warm grey (and now in most of my house)

Have you looked at Farrow and Balls Purbeck Stone? That’s definitely got a warm undertone but doesn’t look too dark to me. I’ve posted a screenshot but there are examples of it on Pinterest if you want to see it. I’ve stuck some other options up to in case it helps.

I should add that the saving grace has been that it hasn't cost us in money a great deal more, the first paint I got a credit note for as I pointe doubt reviews also say it looks blue and yet its labelled online as a grey. I bought Goosedown incase we liked its tester with the credit note and the Pebble Shore. Returned Pebble Shore and received cahs back so have still only paid for one tin at this point.

As this is Valspar, I can use their Love Your Colour Guarantee to buy another colour and get my money back on the first. We've been lucky in that sense that we're still only down the value of one tin of paint plus testers.

A warm, pastel grey, almost off white would be perfect. Undertones of taupe, no blue, lilac or pink hue.

I may just go white and a colour match of Hague Blue or a midnight blue?

Thankyou Divebar, I love farrow and ball but heard you must paint with a brush and that will take forever on all walls and we are fed up now and want it over with! I could colour match though if it's right.

I'm looking for a paler grey, more like ammonite where its very calm but just pops against the white woodwork. Yet this type of colour seems to be icy everytime, even ammonite.

Actually I like the Putty White in your photo, especially with the white skirting and woodwork.
It's a lot warmer than the Goosedown.

(Probably my iPad's screen, I don't see the yellow tinge but obvs différent in reality!)

We have Egyptian Cotton and love it

On the shelf, I felt Egyptian Cotton looked darker and even more peach than the putty.

Tartyflette, I haven't seen it in daylight so hoping those yellow tones go, but now I've seen them I doubt it! I have a new light and could change the bulbs but find it hard to believe that if it was the bulbs, they'd be able to bring out a blue and a yellow tinge in a room!

@motortroll I did consider that before goose down but didn't swatch as thought it would be dark?

The grey in my hallway has a sort of lilac undertone. Strange because someone on MN posted a pic of the exact colour and it was a real grey with no lilac undertone. Will try and remember the name.
