Is there such thing as truly warm grey?

My living room is south facing however I think the window is too small and out room can seem dark on a grey day.

My living room was a pale brown, thanks to an incorrect colour match when Ioved in two years ago which I could work with.

I got samples and painted my living room in B&Qs own 'GoodHome' paint in 'Hamptons'. It was a very icy blue, gorgeous as a nautical blue grey but not for my cosy living room 😔 pic attached.

I repainted in Goosedown by Dulux, though still a cool grey, the samples were promising and look warmer. This corner yet again has icy blue undertones to it 😕

I can't live with it unless by some miracle the blue shades tone down overnight. My husband is going to (metaphorically) kill me.

I've ruled out via testers:

Dulux Polished Pebble
Dulux Pebble Shore
Dulux White Just Walnut
Dulux White Mist

Valspar Shetland Sweater

Wilko Whisper Grey

And several others. Must be a Dulux or Goodhome paint ideally. Crown possibly. Prefer off the shelf for quality control though. I won't use F&B as can't roller it on.
I wasn't a fan of Valspars true greys (black and white mix).

Dulux Perfectly Taupe seems a touch too beige. I really want a grey that looks grey but with subtle beige undertones.

Has anyone else struggled so much with dingy South facing rooms? The cool toens are supposed to balance out the warm sunshine tones we supposedly get!

It's not a great light but I'll get another one in the daylight

Another vote for peignoir- I think it is quite pinky grey and warm.

Howmanysleepsnow · 15/01/2020 21:59

I was going to say chic shadow too. I have it in my dark, dingy hallway. It looks good in what little natural light we get and in artificial light. It’s very true to the picture posted above.

HeyMicky · 15/01/2020 22:05

We have chic shadow - agree it's warm

Fantasisa · 15/01/2020 22:11

No peach colour at all @RapidRainbow. I think it is a very neutral and subtle grey.

JellyTeapot · 15/01/2020 22:16

Crown Snowfall is a lovely greige.

Charleston grey by Farrow and Ball

RapidRainbow · 15/01/2020 22:22

Any thoughts on CORNFORTH White farrow and ball?

Apparently its

Cornforth White is the mid tone in the group of Easy Neutrals which are totally understated and extremely versatile. Neither too warm nor too cool, Cornforth White sits contentedly between Ammonite and Purbeck Stone to create a hushed and calming retreat.

Crown cloud burst

Dollygirl2008 · 15/01/2020 22:27

I went through literally 50 shades of grey but thanks to an amazingly patient man in Homebase, I went for a mix up dulux one called "grey Steele" all over my house. Depending on the room, i either used grey steel 3 or grey Steel 4. Both are a really pale, but warm grey. They do little tester pots as well

RapidRainbow · 15/01/2020 22:32

In the pictures online, Cornforth is perfect. Fingers crossed it's the right one!

We've just painted our hall, stairs, landing and kitchen/dining room in cornforth white. It's a great colour - a grey/taupe that blends well with paper greys as well as taupes and creams.

allthekittles · 15/01/2020 22:35

Pale not paper..,

RapidRainbow · 15/01/2020 22:37

Cloudburst is beautiful but I know the blue tones will show and look icy @cyberpixie

I've looked at grey steels but I still see a blue hue in them, Believe me if there is a touch of blue my room will show it 😭

@rapidrainbow I'm having the same problem, they all go blue in my place
Cloud burst was the only one that didn't out of over 100 testers.

RapidRainbow · 15/01/2020 22:40

@allthekittles

I'm pinning my hopes on it. It looks spot on - a pale grey with a Taupe hue. I think this will have to be a base for mixing my own if it's not right. I'm pretty sure I have a tester of Egyptian Cotton I ruled out but will try again, or grab one with the F&B. I've ruled out peignoir as I think the pink looks quite forthcoming and then won't allow for me to add in my own accents, which I haven't chosen yet.

I'll add it to my list in that case cyberpixie. I've just seen on insta people thinking it had a lilac hue, I could see it too so ruled it out based on that but will try again x

We have Perfectly Taupe. It looks warm to me, DP even thought it was pinky/blush going on. Really pleased with it.

AlunWynsKnee · 15/01/2020 22:47

We've got Dulux Potters Clay in one of our rooms. It's got slightly purple tones in it. It's one of those you can get in different strengths off the strips they have by the mixing machine.

Valsper feathers of a dove
Looks different in pics but in RL it's a lovely warm grey

starofwonder · 15/01/2020 22:59

I love Cornforth white. Have it in two bedrooms, one at front of the house and one at the back. It looks totally different in each room, and at different times of day. It really changes with the light from really quite grey to quite a heathery purple grey. It's lovely big definitely needs a tester in different spots.

RapidRainbow · 15/01/2020 23:03

AlviesMam

It looks gorgeous, it's on the list!

Try Greige Light by Sanderson - not cheap though

HadEnuff20 · 15/01/2020 23:06

Farrow and ball purbeck stone. Have it in my north facing lounge, it is a lovely warm grey.

RapidRainbow · 15/01/2020 23:13

I'm feeling excited and optimistic for Cornforth White and Feathers of a Dove Grin i'll update, with pictures.
