Soooo I wanted to paint dds room lilac. Went to the paint merchants, showed the man a pic of what I wanted and he gave me a tub of paint and sent me on my way. FIL painted the room today and just sent me a pic. It's a bit ....erm...... Bright.
Fuck

You know what? It's a nice colour....BUT there is too much of it for a small room. It will end up feeling gloomy, dark and oppressive.
Seriously - it will be way more hassle to repaint once all the furniture and everything is in...do it now, while it's empty.

You could try leaving one wall in that colour and paint the other two white. You can also try mixing the original purple with a tub of white, or you can just scrap it and start again with something else.

What you shouldn't do is try to learn to love it. You won't.

And by the way....never ever rely on one of those trade places, or a painter and decorator to choose/mix your colour.
In my experience, they haven't got a fucking clue.

Ds's room is similar colour to what you wanted in the first pic. It's Dulux natural Hint cornflour white.

Do you think they resent giving your DH all that work ?;)

Is it a next paint? Might be worth a quick look.

Just been up to the house now (we haven't moved in yet) and dd likes it but I've explained that it won't go with the butterfly bedding. She's not happy about that.

Oh dear. This reminds me of our piggy pink kitchen. We were going for a subtle mango shade... Shock

One or two coats should do it. Good luck!

Dulux blueberry white is quite close to the first picture. Its blue with a hint of purple. repainting is no big deal. It's easier than wallpapering.

If it's any comfort I chose paint for my garage and front door without a terse pot. Should've been a dark red. Came back from a weekend away to a sickly sweet pink!

Am fronting it out with the neighbours (who all have muted farrow and ball doors)...

We have the exact colour you were going for on our walls - BUT, the only reason it looks that lilac in your picture is because of all the pink in the forefront.

It is actually a very greyish, subtle lilac colour and looks flat and grey when it's cloudy, and pinkish/lilac in bright light (and with yellow artificial light). The room we have it in is very very bright, and has lots of vivid splashes of colours (bright lime green rug from ikea, pink duvet covers) and that's really what makes the colour looks lilac as opposed to a warm grey. Oddly, we had the same exact colour in a previous house and even though it didn't have as many windows, it looked more pinker. So much so, we thought we ordered the wrong colour the second time round.

So really, I'm not sure you would have been happy if they did give you exactly that mix. It may have come out very grey.
