What can we turn an unused, unneeded study into?

The house we're hopefully moving into already has 2 studies downstairs, for myself and DH, so we have no use for the one on the 1st floor. We also already have enough bedrooms and a playroom, so we have no idea what to do with the room.

The room is 12x12 with a staircase in it leading to Bedroom 4 on the 2nd floor.

Library/ reading room as it will be a bit of a thoroughfare?

RockySpeed · 27/06/2014 18:55

Ooh lovely! If it were my house it would be either a lovely comfy reading room or (my preference!) a sewing/craft room drools

BikeRunSki · 27/06/2014 18:57

I'd turn it into a dark room.
DH would have a bike workshop.
MiL turned DH's old room into a sewing room.
Ironing room! I hate setting up the ironing board whenever I need to use it.
Or a chill out / child free zone

MultipleMama · 27/06/2014 18:58

I own a lot of books (excluding the DC's) but not sure I have enough to create my own library but the idea is very appealing... hmmm

Agree with the suggestion of a art/craft room.

Dd has a little room for this, and we've put in a few cabinets/shelves. It is the place she can do really messy projects that involve glitter, glue etc, and can leave things out to dry without them getting in the way. Also, there are 2 big surfaces in there, and one side has become her homework area.

CMOTDibbler · 27/06/2014 19:00

A craft room would be fabulous - you could do shelving and drawers to keep it all neat, a table set up, sewing machine permanently out, Lush.

Less drool worthy, but practical would be a laundry/ironing room with hanging rails, iron set up, maybe a drying cupboard (dehumidifier with racks/rails), and storage for towels, bed linens etc so you had somewhere to bring dry/clean washing, sort it and deal with it.

SunshineOutdoors · 27/06/2014 19:03

Oh god yes, I forgot about sex dungeon , that would be ace, get a swing in it

scarletforya · 27/06/2014 19:03

Walk in wardrobe!

SunshineOutdoors · 27/06/2014 19:06

My friend's got an ace room with all clothes on hanging rails, a dressing table, chair and mirror. Make up out. It's fab when getting ready for a rare night out.

MultipleMama · 27/06/2014 19:10

We're making the playroom into half playroom/craft room as it's quite big.

I did think of using it as a room for my wood carving but DH veto'd it because I wouldn't let him use it as a music room (I love music but all that noise with babies around!)

We're already using the basement as a sex dungeon Wink Grin
Now a walk-in-closet does sound nice!

Definately a dressing room/walk in wardrobe. Bedrooms are so much nicer and more spacious without wardrobes

Wolfiefan · 28/06/2014 08:52

Walk in closet
Library (retreat!)
Laundry room
Dressing/beauty room
Mini gym/yoga studio!
Hobby room

KnockMeDown · 28/06/2014 09:02

Hmm, if you want serious suggestions, we are going to need a floor-plan, or pics at the very least............

HomeIsWhereTheHeartIs · 28/06/2014 09:15

This new house sounds huge!
DH dreams of having space to buy a train set and setting it all out with bridges and tunnels etc.
Needless to say this will only ever remain a dream.

Nice try, Knock Wink I can post the bedroom floorplan but it's basically a 12x10 square Wink

I love the idea of a libary but I don't have enough books to justify the whole room maybe half the room though... hmm, I do a bit a sewing but I'd like maybe something DH can do it it too. DH does a lot of music writing/drawing. Ohhh maybe a jigsaw area! I love jigsaws sad.

Walk-in wardrobe or turn one of the rooms downstairs into a utility room - I of a utility room, though by sounds of you probably already have one!

MultipleMama · 28/06/2014 15:43

I already have one! :)
