Would you pay £500 each to upgrade on an eight-hour flight?

We're coming back from the US soon, around an 8 hour flight. It's a day flight that lands about 10pm US time in the UK.

An upgrade to business class from economy is around £500 each. Would you bother? We're not rich, earning about £10k a month.

10k a month is rich. HTH.

Nope, not worth it for that length of flight if you won't be needing to try and sleep. I'd rather have the thousand quid to spend on holiday.

But to answer the question I don’t fly long haul unless is business and definitely don’t earn 10k a month, if I was earning that it would be 1st!

Assuming proper lie flat business cabin then that’s an absolute bargain.

I have to say no because I’ve had this opportunity and didn’t take it!

That’s cheap to go from economy to business! It’s worth it for the experience, the airport lounge with delicious food and drinks, the flat bed is priceless, more amazing food on board and good service. Yes I would.

it's 10k between two. We wouldn't usually spend £1,000 on a day out - so 1k for 8 hours is a lot!

Worth every penny.
I’ll slum it for European trips but I cannot do long haul in economy any more.
Plus you get the business class lounge which if your flight is delayed is an utter godsend.
I can’t be fighting for a seat with drunks and their fucking bags/kids and paying £25 for a sandwich and coffee in the concourse.

If you get a flat bed id consider it. But if you havr no savings id pit the 1k in an isa.

overnight flight - yes, I’d consider that…Daytime - no…sleep at home and think about a weekend away with the money we didn’t spend 😊(we’re in our 50’s and sleep is more important to us than when we were younger) x

Well between two! That's almost the poverty line! I'm over excited as I've splashed out almost 100 for good seats on a jet2 flight so if we 'only' had 10k a month between us I'd definitely go for it

No it isn’t - I earn £64k and take home £3,600 per months - 10k is actually closer to £120k each

Which route and airline? Some business class are just a bigger seat pitch and sometimes nicer food, others you get a lie flat bed.

It's significantly more than that, but that's by the by. £10k a month household income is sufficiently comfortable to stop most people hand-wringing about a flight upgrade.

Would depend on the airline, and the plane too. If it’s BA or VA, they frequently use their older planes on transatlantic routes. The business class on the older planes isn’t anywhere as good as on the newer ones.
