What holidays are you planning for 2027?

I love the holiday section as so nice to read what everyone is doing. There was a lovely thread a couple of months ago about what everyone had been doing this year, really interesting to read.

So I wondered what does everyone have planned for 2027? And how much are you spending? What part are you most looking forward to? I could do with some inspiration especially and cheering up.

It’s just myself and DP nowadays holidaying. We have only ever had a holiday in the UK in self catering cottages or caravans. The last couple of years due to COL, responsibilities, pets, health problems, work and so much more we have not had a holiday. Just staycations from home with days out, still nice though.

My DP has quite a bit of annual leave still to use and can carry some over to next year. We will probably have the maximum of £1500-£2000 throughout the year for 2027 for holidays, all depends on our mortgage increase. I’m hoping for a week away, five days if it’s substantially cheaper, and a long weekend for that if possible. We have a wedding to attend next autumn depending on work commitments (DP works away a lot) where a couple of days annual leave will need to be used as it’s so far from us. The premier inns seem overpriced so I’m thinking a weeks holiday self catering in the area would be preferably and just attend the wedding whilst away. Not sure yet.

So what’s everyone doing?

DD has A level exams next summer so has banned us from going anywhere before then (calm, consistent routine def needed). I’d like to take her somewhere special when she finishes, she won’t fly, thinking 3 nights in Paris.

Then in summer a week near Plymouth where a great friend lives.

I’d love to take advantage of DD being at uni next autumn for DH and I to go away but his work schedule means likely only a long weekend in November so don’t know if we will. We went to Valencia then last year and was lovely so maybe another Spanish city like Seville. Or maybe UK, a Landmark Trust place.

And will take my mum for a weekend in whichever city DD ends up in.

Crete next month. Hopefully it will still be warm enough.

I am rubbish at planning ahead, often leave it too late and have to settle for something I’m not that bothered about or want to include my adult DC’s but haven’t committed and then they cannot get their holidays at the same time.

I think it is because as a teen we had a family house in Spain and then my parents moved there (and to a second place, also in Spain).

Planning ahead never needed, choices not needed either. Just a flight, a couple of weeks before to the same couple of Spanish mainland airports.

I am very fussy now when I look ahead, very indecisive and struggling. I am definitely going to plan a range of trips for next year though.

Cornwall with friends in early Spring

Northumberland with family in late Spring

Maybe a trip just with DH in Europe.

Family wedding in US in autumn.

cheezncrackers · 25/09/2026 14:09

4 days in Krakow for new year with DS2
5 days skiing in Feb half-term with DS2
10 days in Portugal and Spain in July (not booked yet. Both DSs will join us)
Beyond that - not sure, but probably visit ILs in Oct half-term in the US

IndigoBluey · 25/09/2026 14:14

My only plan is Winter sun probably in the Canaries but I might have a browse at the Carribean or even Mexico although that would probably require a 10 day trip given the journey and that does eat into annual leave early. I just found January a bit grim this year and fancy a pick me up.

Do you camp at the same place each year?

Yes, we go with the extended family and there were 50 of us this year!

holidayhelpneeded1 · 25/09/2026 14:34

I am so excited for next year as I didnt have a holiday this year due to lousy health.

Next year we are doing a week at center parcs in april which had to be delayed from this year.

Then in October we are going to Majorca, trying an all inclusive for the first time and actually a hotel I was recommended on MN so hoping its a good one.

I may be already counting down to both.

Decorhate · 25/09/2026 14:48

Retiring soon so don't need to rush to book things for next year (am constrained by school holidays at fhe moment).

But have just booked a few days in Slovenia as saw that flights are starting from my local airport.

Planning a longish trip to the Antipodes to visit family

Am also thinking of Porto and the Italian lakes for next year.

samlovesdilys · 25/09/2026 14:50

We have a week in a villa in S France booked, will road trip there and back so a fortnight away with both kids. Thinking about an Easter cruise (unless anyone has a better idea for Easter??!!) and a dog-friendly break in uk at some point…

I understand completely, lousy health and other issues here for me this year too. I had a mid week stay in a caravan close to our home booked and I had to cancel. due to adult DCs health this time, massive emergency and a week in hospital and now waiting for surgery so I won’t be going away until we are through it all.

that’s why I’m trying to plan ahead for 2027 looking forward to something in the future will help.

That’s what I am thinking of doing out of season (I am not good with heat). Drive down with a couple of night stop overs both ways in interesting places and then a week there. Was going to do it next January but due to a health issue going to push it back which is disappointing.

DP and I love road trips in the UK as we get to explore lanes and villages all over the place.

Antigua in January, Paxos in June, Bodrum in September. A couple of weekends in the UK to Suffolk and Devon.

Its so hard trying to plan around these things. I had surgery, expecting more but honestly with the NHS waits think im pretty safe for next year. Whether my health will be good enough for these holidays is another thing but I will enjoy them either way even if all I do is relax by the pool.

Hopefully you plan something amazing for 2027, do you have any ideas yet? I put a post up a couple months back with what we wanted and got some great recommendations

We’re off to Vietnam for a month in March. We will fly to Hanoi, spend a few days at Ha Long Bay and Cat Ba Island, then get a sleeper train to Da Nang, then further south to Saigon, then an internal flight back to Hanoi. We are both retired and in good health.

We did the reverse a few years ago - started at Ho Chi Min City, cycled to Da Nang then sleeper train to Hanoi, 2 days in Halong Bay then flew home. Such a great trip. When we were in Halong Bay the ship arranged for us to go kayaking which was great fun, although sadly the water was full of litter. You'll have a great time

HalfasleepChrisintheMorning · 25/09/2026 15:27

I’m about to book a week in Gran Canaria in Feb half term. Just waiting to see if DH can get annual leave or if it’s just me and DS14.
India- Golden triangle and Goa at Easter
A week in Almeria followed by a week in Marbella in summer- we will see the eclipse and for the second week have a huge villa with 5 other families for my 50th.
That’s it so far but hoping to book a night away with DH when DS is on DofE, a girls spa weekend and a weekend away with my best friend for a city break.

DemonsandMosquitoes · 25/09/2026 15:33

Have Valletta and Barbados booked for Jan. Retiring at New Year at 55 so going forward will have plenty of time for many more. We usually average several foreign holidays a year. Definitely more long haul on the cards now. Very lucky.

Forkbangles · 25/09/2026 15:41

We are off on a big trip to Hawaii, I can’t wait.

samlovesdilys · 25/09/2026 15:53

@OneNewEagle we did it last year stopping at Rheims and Annecy on the way down, and Dijon and Paris on the way back. We just have to try to organise it around chemo so nothing too exciting or rigorous!!

LlynTegid · 25/09/2026 15:56

Not sure the OP may be cheered up by this but hope would understand why my first holiday in 2027 will be to visit Auschwitz where three of my ancestors died in 1942.

If you don't mind me saying, in a way there's some cheer to it because here you are. A descendant. The Nazis got them, but they didn't finish the job well enough to stop you from coming into being. I like to think Hitler would be upset. Hope the trip is meaningful.

No no idea as of yet. this year we were supposed to have a summer break in the SW to see family, it was planned and I saved up for two years, then family member changed plans so we had to cancel that, that was the start of it all. Two other plans in place instead DPs work commitments cancelled them out as well as my mini caravan break. Than the health issues as well. It’s been a rubbish year in many ways. My DP has had a lot of weekends away camping to escape (I can’t camp in tent due to health).

My DP still has 15 days holiday to use by end of the year. can transfer one weeks worth but seems like can maybe transfer two not sure yet, manager is checking. We are keeping one weeks worth incase my DC suddenly gets a date for surgery.

next year was supposed to be January break , not booked luckily and we’ve postponed due to above. a trip to SW springtime to see family various places we could go, a trip to Gloucestershire for a wedding in autumn and a weeks roadtrip sort of holiday no idea where.

now looking for inspiration and will probably be later in the year.
