Is it odd to take a solo week on holiday to the beach?

I have a favourite holiday destination. It’s a little island with a couple of hotels, but most people rent a villa. A few beaches and good local restaurants.

I have a busy job and DH doesn't fancy visiting the island again. Is it weird if I take myself off for a week?

I’m just imagining staying in a cottage on my own and driving to the beach for a couple of hours when I fancy. Otherwise I can cook and read my book or maybe have a glass of wine and early nights!

No, it would not be odd in the slightest. Book it now.

GreenLemonade · 03/09/2026 10:08

Not odd at all, do whatever makes you happy!

Zimunya · 03/09/2026 10:08

No, not odd at all. Very therapeutic. I'm envious...

PhilosophicalCheeseSandwich · 03/09/2026 10:10

Not at all weird. It's normal.

SuperSharpShooter · 03/09/2026 10:26

Not odd at all!
Go and enjoy the peace.

MyOtherProfile · 03/09/2026 10:27

Wonderful. Can I come?

MelonSorbet · 03/09/2026 10:29

Why would it be odd to go on holiday? Have you not travelled alone before? If not, high time!

smokingsusan · 03/09/2026 10:30

I’ve not really done many solo trips. I’ve of course flown for work or to meet people, and a couple of city breaks on my own. But not to the beach.

It's not weird at all. In fact it's quite common for women to go on solo trips these days. The only thing I would say is perhaps take extra care when swimming as there will be nobody on the beach waiting for you or watching out for you. Other than that, it sounds fantastic.

Lomonald · 03/09/2026 10:41

I wish I was that adventurous, book your holiday.

Branleuse · 03/09/2026 10:42

Can I come? Where is it

caringcarer · 03/09/2026 10:45

It sounds idyllic. Total relaxation. I'd go for it like a shot.

smokingsusan · 03/09/2026 10:46

It’s a place called Virgin Gorda

When I was in Alghero with DS in May I noticed a woman by herself at the beach club we went to. She was on the pair of loungers next to us on a few days. She looked like she was having such a relaxing time. I'm booking a solo trip to Alghero as soon as the flights for next September are released 😄

notacooldad · 03/09/2026 13:37

Why would it be odd?

Ive been doing it for over 40 years.
My friend has her own apartment in France and glies over solo several times a year and sits on the beach by herself and has fone do gor the last 15years.
Nearly every article you read in travel sections it's about how 'empowered ' middle aged women are by going solo.

Years ago I got the 'aren't you brave ' comments from other women or ' Doesn't your husband mind ' which used to drive me nuts but these days its a normal thing to do.
Ive been to Malaga twice this year as well as Salou by myself and on Saturday im going to Santander. Half the week I'll be by myself and second half my friend is joining me.

daisyydaisyy · 03/09/2026 13:38

No; get it booked. I’m off to Japan solo soon, I’m booking that next month! I’ve been to Milan and Zante solo too. Not odd at all!

pilates · 03/09/2026 13:41

No, go for it. Sounds like heaven.

TheOnlyWayIsIlford · 03/09/2026 17:33

That looks idyllic.

I have done solo holidays in Greece 4 times. Studio room, beach days, a few walking / sightseeing days, wonderful.

I am not remotely weird.

As far as I know

shakeitoffoffoff · 03/09/2026 18:45

This is my idea of heaven, please do it xx

FierceFireFairy · 03/09/2026 18:59

A dream I wish to have!

TooOrangey · 03/09/2026 19:01

I couldn’t do it, but that’s my weirdness not anyone else’s. Do it and enjoy it.

ExpensiveKids · 03/09/2026 19:38

Absolutely do it! I can’t wait until my children are older and I can do the same!

Great weather, great food, beautiful surroundings, and lots of books to read is my idea of heaven.

I would perhaps be a bit too nervous to stay in a villa as a lone female and would go for a hotel instead, but other than that it sounds amazing.

bananaapplepears · 03/09/2026 19:46

It would be my worst nightmare but if you'd enjoy it then crack on.

Scully01 · 03/09/2026 19:55

That sounds like heaven. Do it.

Highlandschmiland · 03/09/2026 21:02

Go. Go and enjoy your peace.
