I'm curious, how much did your summer holiday cost this year?

How much are people paying to go on holiday this year?

Our stats:
2 adults 2 children
1 week in July to Lanzarote
Basic 2 star self catering apts, small pool, all clean and pleasant. No luxury.
£1800
Spending money approx £1500

We eat out for lunch and dinner each day, visit a music bar/play pool after dinner and do a few local day trips but kids happy with pool/beach/playparks. They could run up and down a wall beside stairs for hours!

I pass by some of the bigger hotels with the entertainment and activities and wonder if we would like that. Would anyone share how much they are paying for these types of holidays?

Just wondering how much people are paying for different holidays and also, as an aside, when is the best time to book for best deals?

Algarve in August, 6 adults 1 disabled DD (11 years old), LeShuttle crossing, Villa, diesel (we drive because of DD), airbnb for one night mid journey, new clothes, insurances, spending money, flights for eldest kids to join us, airport car parking - for 17 days- 15k

YouLookNiceJackie · 24/07/2026 11:52

We are off to Morocco towards the end of August for 8 nights, 9 full days. £1400 for 1 adult, 1 teen. All inclusive in a hotel with a waterpark, flights, transfers and baggage included. Will take £1000 spending money for trips and souvenirs etc.

muddyford · 24/07/2026 11:53

I don't do summer holidays. Plotting an early October or December jaunt.

thesugarbumfairy · 24/07/2026 11:54

This year was the delayed holiday of a lifetime (we couldn't go 3 years ago due to H having a stroke), so splashed out more than usually would, but the insurance paid out on the first holiday, so that money was still in savings waiting!
Just me and the youngest who is 16.
Paid 5k to go to Thailand (flights, transfers, naice hotels) for a fortnight. Then spent probably 1.5k on top for tours/activities, transport, food, gifts etc.
Was very much worth it, but won't be doing long haul again for a while.

The poster who spent £280K on a holiday once probably bought an actual holiday home 🏠

The tree house suite on Legends of the Seas can cost over $250,000 for a week. Someone’s paying it!

CatherineCawoodsbestie · 24/07/2026 12:03

One week in Nerja, one adult and one teenager
August
550 flights from local airport so dropped off
160 return private transfers
1200 air b n b 2 bed apartment on beach - no pool
1 k max for food, (one meal out a day, lots of salad and bits in apt), trips, shopping, transport)

All in: just under 3k. Could get AI for same price (I think), but we don’t like people or repetitive food. We are in the heart of the old town.

Newpostnewnamenew · 24/07/2026 12:17

PUER125 · 24/07/2026 09:30

Six adults, two teens, and three under ten, in a villa in Florida for a fortnight. £27,000.

We are doing the Disney parks but not Universal.

Food and spending money is on top, so who knows what the total will be!

It is definitely a once in a lifetime trip for most of us, although two of the adults have done it before, as children.

Assuming the £27k is split between at least 3 families though (as there are 6 adults)? So more like £9k per family.

I suppose this is Mumsnet, but some of your holiday budgets are crazy to me.

how much better actually is an all inclusive that costs £10k or even £15k compared to one that costs £5k? What is it that you think is worth spending an extra £5-10k?

interested in the answer. I think the price different might be sometimes to do with the room though, i can't bear four of us in a room so I suppose some people fork out for 2+ rooms. But I cant afford 15k either so no all inclusive for us! We have a cabin in france which has 3 small rooms so everyone at least has their own space .

£1800 for 2 adults for a week in 4* hotel in Greece b and b. Plus about £800 for meals, drinks etc. Went with Jet2 for first time ever, normally book everything ourselves and seem to spend a lot more! Was great not having to worry about luggage costs and getting from the airport to the hotel.

Agree. We went with Jet2 for the first time a few years ago and I was a bit sceptical as I worried it might all be a bit “Brits abroad” vibe but far from it.
So nice to just pay one price and know everything is sorted. No extra luggage or transfer charge or organisation. Rep available to help with anything you need etc. Wouldn’t go back now to organising all the separate elements myself.

TheEasterBunny3 · 24/07/2026 12:33

3 adults, 1 child. 2 weeks in school holidays to Turkey. 4 star hotel, all inclusive with selecting our own seats on plane & transfers. £6800. We could have gone elsewhere for a cheaper deal but the hotel is fantastic & worth the price. We usually do SC & by the time we've added in the food & drinks costs this is actually cheaper.

Please remember that I reckon half of what you see on Mumsnet is utter crap. I could have come on here and said £75k on a 7 day cruise, you would have no way of knowing if its complete bullshit or not. Im sure you could look online for stats but considering average wages are around £30k I think, the average holiday cost is going to be affordable to that.

For us we have spent far more on our last two holidays but I won a large chunk of money and my Husband got a large financial gift. I would not have spent this much ordinarily and will likely go back to our more reasonably priced holidays but we decided fuck it, we had the money, why not.

Edited

i always laugh when people say that, yes I’m sure there is the odd fantasist, but it’s anonymous, why lie?

We spend a bloody fortune on travel, I’m happy with our choices, but in RL I’d never dream of saying the detail I give on here.

Ive seen this and I think these kind of rooms look amazing but even if I had hundreds of millions, I just dont think I could bring myself to ever spend that for a 2 week brwak knowing this could buy a home for a family versus a 2 week break, but maybe when you have this level of wealth you think different. I do like a bit of luxury and when we had our suite definitely liked all the nice extras, but I think I would just feel awful at how much good that money could do and even a tenth of that price could still get a luxury break.

I personally dont know, why would people lie on an anonymous forum but there are always posts pulled for being trolls so it does happen. Maybe its boredom, maybe its attention or maybe some people just like making others feel a bit shit. Who can tell what motivations are but you only have to spend time on mumsnet to see how many posts are fake, and with having crappy health the last couple years I have spent a bunch of time on here when I cant do a whole lot else.

I will say that you may know your posts are genuine but I wouldnt therefore assume they all are, there are lots that arent and no one should feel crappy about other posts and assume they are all real. Some are more obviously fake than others but I would take everything on Mumsnet with a pinch of salt.

I did this for £13k and had an amazing time! You've been robbed!

I am planning on doing a very similar holiday and I am getting it come up about 9k at the moment. However, I wont waste money on premium flights😂
Love disneyworld!

I agree. I’ve written the truth about the cost of my holiday, why would I lie?!

Definitelyrandom · 24/07/2026 13:37

About £1600 for 2 adults for 16 nights in different hotels plus a few apartments, driving around France and Germany. Includes breakfast in a lot of them. Not 5 star but not travelodge equivalent. Mostly in old buildings and chosen to some extent for access to a good dinner. Plus costs of Eurotunnel, petrol and dinner. All self booked, so more of a faff than choosing a single stay holiday, but we've always found this approach worth it (even when we were taking 2 children as well).

@Newpostnewnamenew weve spent this amount for 8 nights Miami including 4 night cruise! That’s 2 adults 2 older teenagers !

@Mickey540is yours in the summer holidays though? That can make a massive difference and unfortunately some people are stuck to certain dates

Im not saying that every post is a lie at all, ive posted my own costs on here, what I said is people do lie online, take it with a pinch of salt and those people who said they felt crappy seeing all these costs I am saying dont take it as gospel.

Unfortunately people will and do lie online and you have no way of knowing who is truthful and who isnt and I would hate the idea of anyone feeling crappy seeing these numbers when you just have no clue what is real and what isnt. My post was more to say take anything you see online with a pinch of salt, nothing more, im not saying everyone is lying.

For me what I find strange is if I had $250,000+ to drop on a holiday I wouldn’t spend it on a 7500 passenger cruise! $250,000 holiday and I assume we are talking top 1% rich, and if I was that rich I wouldn’t want to be on holiday with 7500 other normal people paying less than $10,000 😂 I know there’s the suite access spaces, but surely you’d be avoiding most of the boat? Or maybe I’m an insufferable snob 😂 (I love cruising; but I doubt it would be my choice with that money, I’d hire a yacht!)

It was a client of mine… and we don’t sell holiday homes. It was a holiday, to the same destination I booked a client for £16k this week. However, different levels, different amount of people, different inclusions.

I hate to burst the bubble that this can’t be real, but this amount of money spent on holidays isn’t as unheard of as people would like to think.

I mean someone recently spent £6 million on a few bananas that he then ate. 🤷‍♀️ It doesn't make it any less stupid and quite frankly disgusting.

I guess some idiots also bought £1million "court side" seats to the World Cup final (with obstructed view) so it's possible to waste any amount of money unnecessarily.

thepoowhispererswife · 24/07/2026 14:26

Two adults, one child at a deluxe AI (Ikos Odisia, Corfu). £10k’ish for 8 nights - obviously flights, transfers and all food and drink is included

dh280125 · 24/07/2026 14:27

About 20K probably but we are away for several weeks in four different countries. Some nice hotels, some regular airbnb; PE flights, SUV hire. Two adults, one kid.

Such a Mumsnet response

How? It’s a response you’d get if you asked a group of people from different walks of life. It’s a myth that everyone is suffering from a cost of living crisis.
