How much are people paying to go on holiday this year?

Our stats:
2 adults 2 children
1 week in July to Lanzarote
Basic 2 star self catering apts, small pool, all clean and pleasant. No luxury.
£1800
Spending money approx £1500

We eat out for lunch and dinner each day, visit a music bar/play pool after dinner and do a few local day trips but kids happy with pool/beach/playparks. They could run up and down a wall beside stairs for hours!

I pass by some of the bigger hotels with the entertainment and activities and wonder if we would like that. Would anyone share how much they are paying for these types of holidays?

Just wondering how much people are paying for different holidays and also, as an aside, when is the best time to book for best deals?

1 adult and 1 7 year old. This August. 4 star hotel all inclusive in turkey £1500. We did Egypt for the same price last August again 4 star hotel. I have Tunisia booked for next August again 4 star for £1300. I book at least 12 months in advance.

Our main holiday was a California road trip at Easter. 2 weeks, 2 adults 2 kids (7,3) we paid 13k for flights, accommodation and car hire and spent another 7k while we were there, so 20k total.

That's unusually high, we went to St Lucia at October half term and it was 8k which is more like our usual spend for our "big" holiday.

Tbh though I think the kids favourite trips are to a friend's slightly dodgy caravan in Cornwall! We pay £500 a week for that....

19 days in British Columbia next month, 2 adults, 2 kids, for flights, accommodation, ferries, airport parking, car hire and quite a few entrances it's around £10k. Need to add food, fuel and spending money so probably another £2-4k on top.

One week in a northern Spanish city in a three bed apartment. Me, DH, 2 teens. We live in southern Spain and hired a car and drove up. €2200 for absolutely everything. Ate out once a day, very occasionally twice.

Me & husband allows around £12,000 a year for holidays, which usually is 4/5 holidays abroad, a couple of local weekends and a couple week breaks for me and the grandkids and daughters!

You can’t say £43k and not say where you’re going!

We are doing the exact same holiday as you, except it's 1 week in a campsite, 4 days in AirB&Bs & 1 night in a hotel with my parents! Ours is costing about £1k for 2 adults, 2 teen/preteen DC including ferry. We use Eurocamp & are staying at one of the cheaper sites. Self-catering but 1 meal out, expect food to add maybe £500.

Always find if you book flights separately and not book package holidays , you can save a lot .

5.5k for 10 nights AI in Turkey 4* plus for 4 adults as dd 20 and ds 18 have decided to come with us. We will probably spend about 1.5k - 2k while we are there on shopping and trips etc. It was 7400 when I first looked but monitored prices, deals and companies. I like this post as always wondered what others spent and where peoplel ook for good deals. I see some holidays over 10k for a family but don't feel like I can justify that cost.

What you describe as a cheap AI is why AI has never appealed to me and I would rather spend the money on a private villa with our own pool. I could be tempted by the more expensive ones, as a special luxury treat, but neither of us drink alcohol so unlimited drinks aren't a benefit. At the nicer places are things like watersports included in the price?

2 adults 2 kids. 2 wks staying at Disney World in Florida, in a value resort (cheapest but Disney cheap so still expensive 😂). Best part of £10k inc spends and one of the best holidays ever. Hopefully will do it again next yr only universal this time and booking it closer to the time to get a cheaper deal 🤞🏻

My kids would love a caravan holiday! Thing is, it doesn’t matter where you go as long as you and the kids are happy and having fun!

Early July or once school hols start? We're doing 2 weeks in Tenerife now, 2 adults, 2 eight year olds, Airbnb, shared pool (with mostly locals who just have a quick dip to cool off so tends to be empty), £1k for flat, £1.1k for flights, £125 for car and £900 spending so far but reckon we'll put in another £500 so whatever that is all in. We have either dinner or lunch out each day as quite enjoy doing a meal at home and it also means we don't really need to worry about what our out and about meal is. Seems about right?

I guess it depends what other holidays you do over the year. We're doing an all inclusive in Bodrum in October school hols and did another in Rhodes (adults only) in early May for five nights. Last year we had too many! Plus my other half does others with her sister over the year... It's all context isn't it!

I’m taking my teenager to Thailand - okay it will be rainy season but should still be warm! Flights were £650 each and I have paid £300 for a 4 star hotel with breakfast (with a swim up room). Airport transfer is £20. So just over £1600 in total for 9 nights.
Sticking to a budget there and hoping to eat relatively cheaply. Has worked out cheaper than it cost for us to go to Greece last year for a week!

3 adults and 1 child Parkdean lodge IOW, sleeps 6 though. So self catering. £1,700 incl the ferry. We've got NT membership and there are swimming pools and entertainment on site but we'll be out every day somewhere. Probably about a grand on ice creams 😂

How have you managed to book 5 nights at Center Parcs…? I thought all their breaks were either Mon-Fri or Fri-Mon. Are they more flexible now?

Not been before so no idea how good it is but sports and spa facilities look really good, which is what I’m keen on. I don’t expect it to be outstanding but looks at least a reasonable 5-star.

Unsure how widely available that rate is on a regular basis but I was able to lock it down some time ago.

£600 for return trains and a week in an air BnB in Blackpool this week and then we will spend easily double that between the zoo, pleasure beach, various seaside attractions & shows (both things like the circus/ice show at the pleasure beach and a couple of musicals at the winter gardens and the grand). The circus acts/ice show/magic are something a bit different and honestly the kids are just absolutely loving it and have already asked to come again next year. I’m trying to persuade them they would enjoy a break in Düsseldorf with a visit to Phantasialand and the Roman museum in Xanten, which feels fitting as eldest will start learning German next year. I think we possibly do slightly weird holidays.

So true. We did Japan quite cheaply this way 2 years ago. Flights and accommodation for 2 people (me and teenager) in October half term was about £1500 for 10 days in Tokyo and Osaka. We spent more when there obviously, but flights and accommodation were very cheap.

I live in Norwich and we moved here from Buckinghamshire a decade ago. We used to holiday lots on the north Norfolk coast, and spent many a wonderful week at Holkham beach in Wells-next-the-Sea, where my parents moved to from Bucks too.

It's a bit busier there these days during peak season but Holkham and Wells was voted one of the best UK beaches during recent years.

I'm pretty well travelled too, and my parents are extremely well travelled, but I think the north Norfolk coast is better than many places abroad.
