How much are people paying to go on holiday this year?

Our stats:
2 adults 2 children
1 week in July to Lanzarote
Basic 2 star self catering apts, small pool, all clean and pleasant. No luxury.

Spending money approx £1500

We eat out for lunch and dinner each day, visit a music bar/play pool after dinner and do a few local day trips but kids happy with pool/beach/playparks. They could run up and down a wall beside stairs for hours!

I pass by some of the bigger hotels with the entertainment and activities and wonder if we would like that. Would anyone share how much they are paying for these types of holidays?

Just wondering how much people are paying for different holidays and also, as an aside, when is the best time to book for best deals?

7 nights self catering but only 6 meals and a £20 food shop?

Last year August a week in Gran Canaria, 2 adults and 2 kids, £3000 AI. Accommodation was fine, bit small, food excellent, pool fantastic but loud music played all day on repeat, area beautiful. Spends probably about £700 for out of resort meals, treats and evening in resort arcade for kids.

This year, week in an air b n b in the countryside near the coast £1500. Expecting to spend at least £1000 on meals and activities. 5 hours away so fuel and stop off costs as well.

It's a bit cheaper to holiday in the UK but not much really, especially for guaranteed weather.

We’ve been going to the Peak District for 19 years and when we first went we stayed in a cottage in Eyam for a few years, then there was a 2 bedroom apartment in Two Dales, just outside of Matlock and now we stay just outside of Matlock but in the opposite direction. This will be our 7th year here, our first year was 2020 during Covid.

We love the Peak District because you’ve got Chesterfield one way where there’s a cinema and bowling nearby so that was good for rainy days when the kids were little but then on good days you’ve got the beautiful countryside and they loved exploring too. We also do Alton Towers a few times, which they also still love now they’re older.🤣

This is where we currently stay. We originally chose it as FIL needed all one level but obviously it’s great anyway.

We have done a similar holiday for the last 5 years. We do 3 weeks round France (with a bit of Spain and/or Switzerland), around 2,500 miles, in a campervan, staying on nice campsites with pools/views etc. 2 adults, 1 child and a dog. We tend to spend about 1.5K on ferry, petrol, tolls, vet stuff and campsites, then around 1.5K on food and activities (we have managed to fit in Disneyland the last few years). So 3k in total. We go in June or September. It could be done cheaper if we did more basic campsites/wild camping or left the dog at home!

Yes, the loft owner left us a great food package, plus milk, two bottles of wine, a bottle of fino and six cans of beer. We used some of the food the first night and for breakfast/brunch. We did buy more milk, bread and prawns from the local market.

£800 Tuscany in September shared villa I’m cooking

£720 for 4 nights in a nice hotel in Devon. Breakfast included. Large family room, pool, 5 minute walk to seafront, 5 minute walk to town centre.
2 adults, 2 children.
Lunches will be a pasty or similar, then a restaurant for dinner. A small fortune will be spent on clotted cream soft serve ice creams on the sea front!!

7 nights in Provence airbnb £1400 for a 2 bedroom cottage with garden, pool and parking, just outside the old town of a beautiful village (we are here right now!)

Flights were £950 return.

Car hire £700 for a large SUV.

So, £3,050 + spending money approx. £200 per day for restaurant meals etc. I do not cook on holidays!

2 weeks in a gold static caravan (gold standard not colour!) In st Ives. Me, DH, Dd and SD. 2,600. Me and DH also had 10 days I Galipoli in italy for 10 days 1400 inc flights. Hotel. It was June so out of season. Food and drink was really cheap though. 1 euro for coffee 3 euros for lager. 3 course meal with bottle of wine about 60 euros.

We appreciate we are very lucky to be able to do this, we have not travelled for a few years owing to OH’s health issues so have pushed the boat out and treated ourselves.

A week in Zante for me and my adult daughter in June, 5 star hotel, all inclusive with a swim-up room cost £2,300, although Greek 5 star isn’t quite the same standard as British 5 star.

2 Adults 10 nights Bed and Breakfast 4* hotel + flights to Barbados in August £3K, I reckon extra 1.5K for activities, car hire and food, 2 week October half term 2 adults and 3 Kids £7.5K all inclusive to 5 star hotel in Turkey

We eat something quick before beach in morning, bring sandwiches, snacks to beach ($125/week for groceries) and eat dinners out (this is where a lot of our expenses are can run up to $3-400 each night).
Sometimes stop for ice cream, mini golf, etc after dinner with other family also on the trip. We don't spend too much on gifts, souvenirs, etc any more - I'll say $200

Where we go is not a place for tourists. We prefer to stay there because the beaches are immaculate and its our tradition. There are no deals. We book our week before we leave for home at the end of our holiday.

When I add it all up, it is more than I had thought.

One week in Club Med in Turkey, 5K with flights and AI, 2 adults 2 kids - fabulous and I would go again (rare for me).

now in France in a cabin in a campsite for 8 days or so. I suspect it will be not much cheaper than first one, but more stressful 😆😆😆

We’re going for a week all inclusive to Mallorca next week. 4*.

£500 estimate spending money - I’m guessing here, it’s AI but we’ll do at least one excursion and I’ll need to eat out at least once or twice for variety/ sanity. The rest of the time will be pool/ beach and pottering about.

We’ve not done that kind of holiday just us before, we did do an AI in the canaries a couple of years ago and we did that with lots of other family members so it was a bit different. I wouldn’t generally choose AI but whilst DD is still quite little we decided to go for convenience.

We went to a Haven in Somerset back in June, with a stop off on the way at a premier inn in the Cotswolds to visit family. That was roughly:

Cotswolds hotel - £200
Caravan with sea view and decking area for 4 nights, plus play passes etc - £300
Meal/ drinks/ attractions whilst in Cotswolds -£250
Food/ wine shop for caravan £100
Spending money whilst in Somerset - minimal - we used the swimming included in Haven, ate in the caravan or took picnics, visited NT places, beach or the free farm park next to the site. Say about £100 for ice creams, the odd drink out, a bag of chips and few quid on the penny arcade etc

We’re also going to Dorset for a week in October. Staying at a relative’s place which they very kindly allow us to use for free, but we will leave them very nice gifts! So the cost of the gifts, petrol (£100) parking (£100 for the week) and spending money which will be about £400 because it’s not cheap where they are!

Can you say what hotel it is please ? 'I am currently looking at my winter holiday that's booked with full flex cancellation, in a 5-star hotel with a Michelin star restaurant on site, and the cost is 700 GBP for 7 nights. Will add flights later, I think they'll be about 200 pp RTN with BA'.

It could be done a bit cheaper if we drove from the UK and had a slightly smaller chalet but I don't want to drive all that way.

We returned yesterday from a week selfcatering overlooking the sea in mid Wales. Two bedroom chalet on a small site cost 200 for a week.
We cooked for ourselves and other than a dolphin spotting boat trip and a few ice creams we didn't spend much.
End of August we have a 7 night cruise booked to Norway. Cost for me, dh and our two older teens is 3,000.....probably the last holiday we will have together as a family of 4.
