Where would you go for a last minute holiday next week given the heatwave?

Haven’t booked any thing yet as we were waiting for final confirmation of my schedule.

we had thought Paris but that seems like madness in this heat.

looking for ideas of where to go please. 5 nights, budget about £3k for a family of 4 but could stretch.

Antarctica tbh.

I’d like to see more of the UK in this current sunshine … I bet Devon and Cornwall are gorgeous at the moment.

FadedRed · 10/07/2026 17:08

Iceland. Amazing place.

makemineadecaf · 10/07/2026 17:09

Cote d’Azur, Amalfi coast, Antalya, Marbella

AnSionnachGlic · 10/07/2026 17:09

The West of Ireland is beautiful at moment...25°, sunshine and a lovely breeze😎

Mumof1andacat · 10/07/2026 17:10

Tempted to stick with the uk. West Country would be lovely as would the Norfolk coast.

parietal · 10/07/2026 17:18

Northumberland. Lovely beaches and not too hot.

Silverbirchleaf · 10/07/2026 17:20

Scotland. Glencoe area is beautiful.

LightlyRoamingOcelots · 10/07/2026 17:20

Just got back from a holiday touring around southern Scotland and Northumberland. Is too hot down south. Orkney Islands or Shetland would be my top choice for a last minute holiday at the moment.

Iceland. Amazing place.

Not with £3k for 4 people it isn’t. Notoriously expensive, especially for eating out.

OP, I’d get flights to Palma and then get the train to Soller / Port de Soller. Some lovely hotels there.

Throwntothewolves · 10/07/2026 17:23

The Lake District or Scotland, particularly the Highlands and Islands. Beautiful in any weather, but particularly so in the warm sunshine.
No need to go abroad just now imo.

DeedlessIndeed · 10/07/2026 17:25

It is beautiful on the West Coast of Scotland right now. Took my daughter to Loch Lomond yesterday for a paddle and picnic and it was perfect weather.

RoseyLentil · 10/07/2026 17:28

Iceland

Secretseverywhere · 10/07/2026 17:28

I’d consider Stockholm it’s family friendly, lots of museums, excellent outdoor public swimming. I think you could get that city getaway but also cool down. It’s forecast to be mid twenties which is nice rather than brutal.

DosPerros · 10/07/2026 17:28

Another one for Iceland

RandomUsernameHere · 10/07/2026 17:29

How old are your children? I’d look for somewhere with a great pool/waterpark/beach, preferably all three.

AmIReallyTheGrownup · 10/07/2026 17:30

French Alps. Either drive or flights to Geneva. Absolutely lovely weather at the moment, ironically due to the heatwave.

Glitchymn1 · 10/07/2026 17:37

I doubt you’ll get Iceland for that budget, I’d stick to the U.K. House with a pool!! I’d head to Carbis Bay…. Or similar.

ginasevern · 10/07/2026 17:43

I'm probably the only person on Mumsnet that doesn't want to escape the heat, so I'd take the opportunity to holiday in the UK whilst it isn't raining or howling with wind. I'd most likely choose Carmarthenshire or Pembrokeshire.

Dilemma999 · 10/07/2026 17:45

Scotland for sure but watch out for the midges!

Mycatmax · 10/07/2026 17:46

Northumberland and Stockholm both great shouts.

If you don’t enjoy the heat it’s limiting you somewhat. Riga or other Baltic cities?

VividDeer · 10/07/2026 17:46

Tenby is lovely

pouletvous · 10/07/2026 17:47

Cooler in SW England. Go there

Ineffable23 · 10/07/2026 17:52

Norfolk/Suffolk. You'd find somewhere gorgeous for that money and still have loads left over for eating out and the weather is perfect for a holiday in the UK currently.

There's plenty about for a lot less money than that as well.

Any1ForTennis · 10/07/2026 17:53

Iceland, always fancied that but only in the height of summer.
