Holidaying alone…

I’m happily single and I’m looking to go away abroad on a simple pool/beach holiday just for some change and rest, I don’t want to be involved with the ‘singles scene’ so I’m not looking to meet a prospective partner or even have a ‘holiday fling’ nor do I want to stay in a hotel where I’ll be seated with strangers at mealtimes…basically I’d just like to holiday alone. Are there any ‘Mumsnetters’ out there who’ve done this and could offer some suggestions ?

I don’t think the “get me, cool
traveller vibe helps.
We are not in Victorian Britain. There are solo travellers everywhere.

Going to Tenerife next Wednesday for four nights, 4* AI with flights, luggage and transfer was £480 in a single suite. Treating it as a retreat-type experience since an actual retreat is so expensive! Planning to meditate, gym, sunbathe, have a massage, a head spa and an emotional healing session - minimal alcohol and lots of fruit and salads

I absolutely love travelling on my own, been to Japan for 3 weeks a few years ago, and Bali for 3 weeks next year

What did you think of this hotel @TheLobsterClub ? I am about to pull the trigger on a week there!

I’m literally sitting on the plane waiting to take off to go there 😂 I’ll keep you posted when I see what it’s like

Who’s saying ‘get me, cool traveller’ type stuff? Saying one likes going away alone isn’t the same thing as trying to look cool. Maybe I’ve missed something. 🤔

I just spent most of a fortnight cycling alone around Ireland. Was a great way of being 'alone', yet with some lovely friendly interactions on campsites, in cafes and some pubs/hotels for evening meals.
Being Ireland I had more issues with the rain than applying sun cream :-(

I am however on reflection looking to join a small group ride / tour next year, as I did find I wanted more interactions than perhaps I thought I did...

Where did you go, @outdooryone? When I was a child, it was probably the most common sight on the roads in summer, along with (sometimes horsedrawn) caravans -- cycling tourists who camped by night. They more or less vanished for a long time, but I see a slight uptake again.

Plan was Galway to Derry along all sorts of the Wild Atlantic Way, with a few me designed 'diversions' to see some places off-route. I bailed out early from Dungloe and headed straight for Derry via Glenveagh because of the weather and got a train and early ferry home.
There are a good few of us out there still, particularly on popular routes. I find on the continent there are soo many other tourers, but Ireland and UK's weather perhaps counts against us as a destination for a bike tour...

I actually prefer travelling alone now which is a bit awkward when a friend asks to join me 😂 depends on the friend or person though, some people I could not travel or go on holiday with.

@Billionvirals I’m really impressed with this place so far, it’s absolutely huge but not that many rooms so doesn’t feel crowded. Just had a nice breakfast. Only issue is the gym isn’t open but can use the sister hotel down the road - there is a huge hill to climb back up from there though, and from the main resort, but there’s a free shuttle bus in the day. Also if you fly into Tenerife South it’s quite far away - took me 3 hours from landing to arriving but that was also due to the luggage taking forever
