Is anybody delaying booking summer hols?

I was about to book a holiday to Canada this summer and now I’m not sure I want to. Does anyone else feel very unsure about travelling? So much uncertainty and a feeling of anything could happen with the war in the Middle East.

Not booked anything yet because I have a twitchy feeling about it all. The last time I had this feeling I ignored it - booked a holiday and then COVID happened!
So for the moment DH and I are doing jobs around the house starting with our bedroom - the plasterer comes today! So we are happy to wait and see how things work out in future with holiday plans.

Had already booked France on Eurotunnel for the spring and Mallorca for the autumn, so unless WW3 breaks out hopefully it will be OK. But really we need to get rid of these crazy, power driven men who like to start wars from their luxury palaces with no regard for the everyday lives of the citizens of the world.

We’ve got Italy booked for Easter - no worries.

Amsterdam and Paris booked in June no concerns

Cyprus booked on Oct. We
will see how it all lies by the time we have to pay balance

Well one thing is for sure - this war is going to cause a collapse in holiday bookings to ME and eastern Mediterranean destinations and a resurgence in the Far Eastern hub airports that took a hit in traffic when the ME carriers grabbed a huge share of the market.

As for us, we booked in January and our destination shouldn't be affected by this war. If I was booking now, I'd stick with western Europe or points west. I wouldn't be worried about booking Canada anyway, I'd just go ahead if that was where I wanted to go.

DirtyGertiefromno30 · 06/03/2026 09:30

No but we have changed the country we are going to. Italy instead of Morocco.

You'd think so but I suspect once the dust clears (it will) the Middle East 3 (Emirates, Ethiad, Qatar) will have a massive seat sale and go full speed ahead with influencing/influencers...

Give it six months to a year and we'll be back to "oh I never connect London/Sydney and never transit Singapore or Bangkok .Dubai everytime for me, it's absolutely fab..:

Both our travel destinations (Cuba and Georgia) have been scuppered by Trump. Cuba because of Trump blocking all oil tankers, and Georgia because of its proximity to Iran. Thank you Trump.

Completely agree with everything you say. I remember all this about some European destinations in February 2022.

Why have you changed from Morocco , out of interest? It’s possible I’m missing something but it’s a long way from the conflict area isn’t it, and no advice not to travel there?

em81ygh · 08/03/2026 10:59

I’m currently researching summer 2027, March already seems very late to plan a summer holiday to this anal planner 🤣

freetospeakup · 09/03/2026 07:36

I've changed from Turkey in June to Spain. I didn't want to wait as I reckon the cost of Spanish holidays will increase as more people do the same.

We always have ours booked about 18 months in advance 🤣

@Binding going to where we are In Europe I've not got any fear we will be harmed ( touch wood ) it's the fuel situation. Having my flights cancelled last min which means I pay for my various accomodations and or getting there and then being stuck .
We could I suppose train it back ? Basel ? And Germany ? Train and ferry.
But I guess thousand of others would as well.
It's the stress isn't it.

Holidayworry1 · 19/04/2026 10:15

@Poxette I'm no expert and have not researched it in sure you have but isn't Oz being particularly badly hit by fuel and fertiliser issues ?

damelza · 19/04/2026 11:55

I'm holding off for now. Can book last minute as no kids and can go any time really. Just too much uncertainty around at the moment for me. Will reassess during the Summer for September onwards. I don't like beaches, sunbeds, sweating, showing off my horrible leg veins, being hot and bothered, queuing and so on. So the Summer is better off without me in it!

But it will be either Northern Spain or France. Ferries an option if the arse falls out of airlines.

I’m going to Italy and paid extra on my travel insurance for

  • Additional Cover: Excess Waiver, Trip Disruption cover (Including Natural Catastrophe, Terrorism, Air Space disruption & Covid-19)

Would that also cover delays or cancellation due to wars or lack of fuel?

Lordofmyflies · 19/04/2026 12:50

We have already booked this summer hols. I tend to plan a year in advance. We are going to Namibia which should be unaffected be the chaos. I'll be booking next years' holiday in a few months and be avoiding the US, turkey, and anywhere that transits or is in the Middle East. Currently considering Peru or Brazil.

PeonyBulb · 19/04/2026 13:57

I’m staying in Europe this year. Going to Italy. Already been to Prague and currently in Budapest for a long weekend city break.

Will it be unaffected? How will you get to Namibia if the publicised shortage of jet fuel comes to fruition?
