Is anybody delaying booking summer hols?

I was about to book a holiday to Canada this summer and now I’m not sure I want to. Does anyone else feel very unsure about travelling? So much uncertainty and a feeling of anything could happen with the war in the Middle East.

We have Turkey booked for late May which we make the last payment on shortly. We have until next Saturday to potentially change destination for £200. We’re going about as far West as you can in Turkey and as an added complication we are staying near family who live there. I figure if things go totally tits up in that area we’ll have bigger things to worry about like their personal safety. And if we get stuck we could hopefully stay on with them. But can’t say I haven’t looked at alternatives this evening. So hard to know as this could all go either way couldn’t it - just don’t feel like I know enough to make the right decision!

It hasn't affected my holiday plans for this year. Any booked breaks aren't in or near geopolitically sensitive areas and flight paths don't route via them.

All trips are insured too, for what it's worth.

We booked a holiday of a lifetime to Australia 2 weeks ago. We ummed and ahhed over Emirates or Singapore Airlines. Flying in June.

Let‘s just say I am regretting our decision.

Why? It's months away.

Marwoodsbigbreak · 05/03/2026 20:35

I already booked all this years holidays.

Croatia, Austria, Morocco and Canada. I will still be going unless the official travel advice is not to travel to those places.

SnacklessWonder · 05/03/2026 20:48

We were about to book Turkey for the summer but we won't be doing that now. We'll still go somewhere but it's likely to be Spain or Italy.

Squirrelsandhedgehogs · 05/03/2026 21:21

When we are going is hopefully now covered by Emirates refunds so Sri Lanka will be for another time. I've just booked a week in La Gomera instead and using a package going from local airport to give extra protection. Won't be as good as Sri Lanka but its a spa hotel and less than half the price and all very safe and we can take the other holiday another time.

InLoveWithAI · 05/03/2026 21:34

I'm going to turkey next weekend, unless the fcdo state no travel 🤷🏽‍♀️

CheeseWisely · 05/03/2026 21:43

Not at all. I wouldn’t plan to travel to or via the Middle East, or to or via the USA, but no concerns about anywhere else. Life is short.

Rockyhorrors · 05/03/2026 22:05

Trip to Australia next week with emirates, layover in Dubai. If it goes ahead and is not cancelled I will still travel.

Crushed23 · 05/03/2026 22:23

Business as usual here. Lots of trips planned.

I’ve never had any interest in travelling to the Middle East, and if I want to go to Asia or Australia I can travel from the West Coast.

Yuja · 05/03/2026 22:25

we booked a holiday to Morocco in July back in November. No plans to cancel it seems a long way from the current area of conflict.

whoTFismadelaine · 05/03/2026 22:28

We booked Poland about 4 months ago so hoping Russia doesn't decide now we are distracted with ME it would be a great time to invade... Some of these dementia ridden old men with red buttons have to die soon and leave us alone!

TutTutTutSigh · 05/03/2026 22:39

I have family stuck in Dubai right now, and no I'm not putting off holiday plans - starting with Morocco next month.

Booked a trip to Turkey literally the day before it all kicked off, with Jet2. I am kicking myself about this! Have only paid the deposit and not sure if they will let me switch or will say I lose the deposit if I don't proceed etc

Not quite the same but, we went away with friends 2 years ago with jet2 and we were looking at 2 hotels and I clicked on the wrong one and booked it with the £60 per person deposit
I called them they were great and just transferred it but this was to Majorca but I’d phone them up and ask.

With regards to this year we weren’t planning on going abroad and it’s looking less likely now. A girl I work with is meant to be getting married in Cyprus end or May and she’s very stressed as there’s about 30 of them going.

TheRealLillyAllenVerifiedAccount · 05/03/2026 22:48

We are touring Europe in July/August. No flights. As someone else said if we experience issues doing that, then there are much bigger worries.

I have a bad feeling about one place though. I felt this way, well before any of this kicked off so it's unrelated. My DD is desperate to go there and I dont have any real reason not to.

I know it's confirmation bias but I've had bad feelings about a few things over the last few months and they've happened. It's not helping settle me!

PeonyBulb · 05/03/2026 22:51

I’m going to Italy and paid extra on my travel insurance for

  • Additional Cover: Excess Waiver, Trip Disruption cover (Including Natural Catastrophe, Terrorism, Air Space disruption & Covid-19)
Sensiblesal · 05/03/2026 23:03

Not related to the war but I feel prices are so expensive that I haven’t booked.

I have been looking & a week in greece at a 5star AI is 5k pp. imagine prices will go up further with Mexico having troubles then the middle east, turkey, cyprus and eygpt probably also best avoided

Bologneselove · 05/03/2026 23:23

My son today booked a flight to Thailand for end of May. He’s hoping things will be settled by then. If not he will rebook. Paid by credit card for some protection.

Well I am not planning on a holiday because I have spent a year saving and paying several thousans on a trip to Malaysia,. I am due to leave on a direct flight on 20 March but the return flight has a one night stop in Dubai.

I won't get on my outbound direct flight ( which has no reason to be cancelled) unless the war is over and flights are going to Dubai again or unless I am able to reroute my return trip before I leave though the latter is unlikely as emirates is not cancelling flights more than a few days ahead .

I dont want to be stuck in Malaysia with the choice of having to scrabble at the last minute and likely pay a massive flight cost to book another flight or having a delayed departure waiting for an Emirates flight that connects in Dubai to leave.

This holiday has been a bit cursed though. We had planned to go to India on Air India then the air India crash made my holiday mates nervous so we paid to switch to Virgin flights at additional cost. I was less bothered about that but agreed. Then two of the four of us were unable to get visas for India due to their Pakistani grandparent heritage, which made us change to a Malaysia holiday ( with extra costs ). Now this has happened.

I doubt I will get any money back if I dont get on the outbound flight as they will argue I dont need the return and as we booked a package through a travel agent, the hotels are non refundable this close to departure.

So if I dont go I lose practically all the money. I'd happily go to Malaysia, I'm not worried for safety , it is just the hassle and potential delay related to my return Dubai stopover flight if the war is still ongoing when I leave.

So no, I have been throughly put off planning a holiday this year. I may never go long haul again quite frankly after this fiasco!

cinders222 · 06/03/2026 00:02

We are going to Rhodes at start of May and have Dubai booked for end of September. Hopefully resolved by then but who knows. If I need to cancel Dubai will probably go Canaries at end of Sept or just not bother and cut my loses for this year.
As I am planning Japan for next Oct so might bring that forward to April of next year.
Time will tell

Handeyethingyowl · 06/03/2026 00:13

I am going to Wales and Cornwall so no. Later in the year I am going to Italy and it hadn’t occurred to me to worry.

Giraffehaver · 06/03/2026 00:40

Off to Tunisia for our wedding anniversary in September. We absolutely love it there

Berlinlover · 06/03/2026 01:00

No, not at all.

Holidaytips · 06/03/2026 07:50

No, though with two young kids we're not planning long haul and will be booking somewhere in Western Europe in the next few weeks. Probably France, but that's mainly as we cba to fly this year so will drive.

WrongKindOfWaterOnTheTrack · 06/03/2026 07:54

We were going to go to Indonesia and haven’t booked yet, so hesitating. Haven’t looked at flights & whether it now becomes too out of reasonable budget.
