Well I am not planning on a holiday because I have spent a year saving and paying several thousans on a trip to Malaysia,. I am due to leave on a direct flight on 20 March but the return flight has a one night stop in Dubai.
I won't get on my outbound direct flight ( which has no reason to be cancelled) unless the war is over and flights are going to Dubai again or unless I am able to reroute my return trip before I leave though the latter is unlikely as emirates is not cancelling flights more than a few days ahead .
I dont want to be stuck in Malaysia with the choice of having to scrabble at the last minute and likely pay a massive flight cost to book another flight or having a delayed departure waiting for an Emirates flight that connects in Dubai to leave.
This holiday has been a bit cursed though. We had planned to go to India on Air India then the air India crash made my holiday mates nervous so we paid to switch to Virgin flights at additional cost. I was less bothered about that but agreed. Then two of the four of us were unable to get visas for India due to their Pakistani grandparent heritage, which made us change to a Malaysia holiday ( with extra costs ). Now this has happened.
I doubt I will get any money back if I dont get on the outbound flight as they will argue I dont need the return and as we booked a package through a travel agent, the hotels are non refundable this close to departure.
So if I dont go I lose practically all the money. I'd happily go to Malaysia, I'm not worried for safety , it is just the hassle and potential delay related to my return Dubai stopover flight if the war is still ongoing when I leave.
So no, I have been throughly put off planning a holiday this year. I may never go long haul again quite frankly after this fiasco!
