Would you go on a trip to London?

Myself and the family (young primary aged kids plus hubby) have always enjoyed a trip to the UK capital. The kids asked to go again next year (we are from Northern Ireland) but being put off by current issues reported in the mainstream media , do these issues actually exist or are they exacerbated by media outlets? Is it safe? We loved our last trip in 2024, kids are buzzing to return so advice welcome!

Yes I would go to London.

I really don’t know what else to say. Things go on in loads of cities.

Sums it up.

Ironically I wouldn’t go to Northern Ireland

BowlyLarr · 03/11/2025 20:31

What issues?

London in 2025 is no different to London in 2024 tbh so I don’t know what you’re on about. If you’ve been watching right wing tiktok then please just stop it.

LaserPumpkin · 03/11/2025 20:31

Central London doesn’t feel any less safe than it has done for years. Just the same precautions you would in any other big city and watch out for cyclists and e-scooters.

Octavia64 · 03/11/2025 20:31

Maybe I’m missing something but what current issues?

I live just outside London and go in about once a month. My son lives there. Haven’t heard of anything recently?

LIZS · 03/11/2025 20:31

Which issues in particular? Tens of thousands visit everyday, we go several times a month and used to work there.

notaweddingdress · 03/11/2025 20:32

Yes of course. Don’t wander about staring at your mobile phone in busy areas, you might get it nicked. Other than that, what are you worried about?

They are being exaggerated by the media. It’s mostly safe to travel to and be in London. I commute to London weekly.

SagittariusDwarf · 03/11/2025 20:32

What issues? I live in London. What should I be worrying about now...?

LarryIsMyRomanEmpire · 03/11/2025 20:33

Yes, I go often and love it.

l3tsdanc3 · 03/11/2025 20:34

Massive exaggeration by social media and the media… I travel into London regularly, don’t feel any less safe than I did when I lived there 5 years ago. Enjoy!

TheLivelyRose · 03/11/2025 20:34

I live here and I have no idea what you re going on about.

You're not coming to Mordor it's a safe capital city.

Alpacajigsaw · 03/11/2025 20:35

What issues?

Yes, I would go. I adore London

LaserPumpkin · 03/11/2025 20:35

Oh, actually the rollerskaters are new. I don’t know why they’ve suddenly got everywhere but it’s easier to get out of their way than expect them to move.

SkipAd · 03/11/2025 20:35

I would also like to know what the current issues are? I’m not being disingenuous, I really don’t know what you’re referring to.

Nocookiesforme · 03/11/2025 20:37

Not entirely sure what you're getting at by 'current issues'? I presume crime levels?
We've just returned from a short stay in London and I noticed nothing different from my previous visits - we stay for a day or 2 every few months.
We travelled around by tube and mainly bus in quite a few different areas and it was all good.
We follow a few basic rules like knowing where we're going, how we're getting back and not standing or walking in the streets with our phones/wallets out. We usually travel around using buses as it's cheaper and you can see so much of London while travelling. We also do 'old school' like carrying a small paper foldout map plus a tube map just in case plans change but preparation is always key if you're unfamiliar with a place.

Londoner, wondering the same…

Mostly safe to travel to and be in London??

I live in London and have done for many years. It’s completely fine. No idea why it’s apparently only “mostly safe” but I’m curious to be told what I should apparently be concerned about.

Also keen to hear details seeing as I use London public transport almost every day....

murasaki · 03/11/2025 20:38

Ooh, should I not leave the house now?

Don't be ridiculous, OP.

I’ve almost been knocked over by Deliveroo / Just Eat riders a couple of times. Other than that, not entirely sure!

mynameiscalypso · 03/11/2025 20:40

I hope this isn’t going to turn out to be another variation of the anti-Sadiq Khan threads.

PersephonePomegranate · 03/11/2025 20:41

I'm curious to know about the issues too. I work in London and spend time both in the City and West End and haven't noticed anything unusual.

I

Chewbecca · 03/11/2025 20:43

Also unaware of any 'current issues'. What media outlets are you consuming?
