Would you go on a trip to London?

Myself and the family (young primary aged kids plus hubby) have always enjoyed a trip to the UK capital. The kids asked to go again next year (we are from Northern Ireland) but being put off by current issues reported in the mainstream media , do these issues actually exist or are they exacerbated by media outlets? Is it safe? We loved our last trip in 2024, kids are buzzing to return so advice welcome!

Yeah Northern Ireland hasn't been in the news much in the last hundred or so years, not much happens there crime or war wise all good

Coffeeishot · 04/11/2025 07:00

Anyway, yes op go we visit London every couple of years I don't see any more "goings on" than usual "goings on"

FlatErica · 04/11/2025 07:15

I live in Central London and I have no idea what you’re talking about!

CrazyGoatLady · 04/11/2025 07:26

I go to London for work at least once a month. Still alive, not sure what these issues are that make London any worse than any other city!

reluctantbrit · 04/11/2025 07:36

I also live in London (outer London borough).

DH and I were out yesterday, returned around 10pm to London Bridge station and I didn't notice anything unusual.

Obviously be careful with your belongings but in the 25 years living in London I never had any issues.

Maybe it's the uproar over the Council planning to close a road for a few hours to hold a street party.

Admittedly social media has been buzzing, and some people are very irate.

Well yes, Northern Ireland IS lovely. Clearly you disagree! That’s not a straight answer to the question I asked that poster though so not sure why you bothered responding!

What? I was agreeing with you.

Cynic17 · 04/11/2025 10:04

Yes, of course! I go several times a year, and I'm looking forward to my next solo trip in about 10 days time.
What do you think is going to happen, FFS? It's absolutely fine.

labradorservant · 04/11/2025 18:25

Also realised after I wrote this (was late, didn’t even think to connect them) I went last night to the o2 to see Benson Boone. 19k people there. No reports of any issues. I recently spoke to someone who was in charge of crowd security at large events. The biggest threat is apparently the crowd itself. Surge etc.

Easily done!😀

The man who did the stabbings is from Peterborough OP. He’s known to have mental health issues. People like that are everywhere sadly.

RyanFudgingMurphy · 05/11/2025 05:59

I work in London. It has it’s social problems and crime (In my job I deal with that regularly) but honestly, it’s no worse than any other British city.

MrsKeats · 05/11/2025 06:18

What issues? Do you read the Daily Mail or something?

ohwoaw · 05/11/2025 07:25

Almost 10m people live there and the majority including me aren’t at risk of being stabbed

Ginmonkeyagain · 05/11/2025 10:19

What on earth had led you to think London isn't safe?

The fact the OP thinks the train srabbing was in London is interesting though. I have just got back from a long weeked in Porto, a lot of the international news channels did describe the Huntingdon train incident as "mass stabbings on London train". Mainly because I assume most people outside of the UK have no idea where Huntingdon is and the train was indeed London bound.

However as the OP is UK based and presumably is watching UK news where it was made clear the incident happened in Huntingdon area I expect she would be well aware of the difference. Surely?

I live in London and travel centrally for work. It’s fine. Just don’t go waving your phone about in public and keep your bags safe.

Social media really is a dark and fake place. It’s creepy.

LONDON IS FINE. STOP BELIEVING THE OPPOSITE. I work there and go into central London every single day. I work in Covent Garden and it’s buzzing with tourists having fun and shopping and going to the theatre. That’s it. The tube is loud and squeaky, but it runs and I never see any trouble on it.

Bear2014 · 06/11/2025 13:10

Threads like this baffle me. I live in inner London (Zone 2) and have two primary school aged DC. I literally have no idea what you may be referring to. We go out and about all the time with no issues.

HPFA · 07/11/2025 18:52

I think social media is driving people insane.

You've got Americans deciding London is too dangerous which is nuts considering the murder rate in US cities is far higher than in the UK.
