Two weeks. Insane heat?

Has anyone been in July? Is it enjoyable or just too much. Found a great hotel.

Looking for some personal experience.

Thankyou.

Well you sound like a lovely human being!!

Telling me I’m a waste of space is a bit personal.

Hopefully you’ll have a shit holiday, get food poisoning and burn.

I'd say it's more likely than not.

100%. But at least we tried to warn her.

We’ve done a week in July with little kids and enjoyed ourselves. We knew what we were going for though, and for us it was diving/snorkelling.
The heat didn’t bother us or the kids but we already live in the southern Mediterranean and having a week where you have access to the beach and pools with food on site compared to day to day life in the heat was a doddle.

Thanks for the replies. We've exhausted all the other European resorts so fancied something different.

I think we will go for it. Life is for experiencing.

It really is a dump. You won’t ’experience life’ there.

Very likely. One of the most miserable places I’ve been. Added to by a tiger shark attack while we were there. But mainly just utterly grim.

Sharm is not a ‘shithole’ but your level of enjoyment will depend on the resort you choose and how much you’re prepared to spend. The best resorts (eg., Four Seasons Sharm) are stunning. Amazing diving, great food, lots of pools to cool off in. July will be incredibly hot but it’s possible to enjoy it if you avoid the afternoon heat.

Derbee · 17/08/2025 22:58

When you venture outside the hotel, you’ll be overwhelmed by lecherous men and haggling and bartering for every single fucking thing you want to eat or drink.

I disagree with PP. It absolutely is a total shithole

Well yeah - the hotels can be lovely but Sharm itself is a shithole. No denying that really.

You've exhausted all other European resorts? All of them? Blimey. You must have had more holidays than I've had hot dinners.

By the way, Sharm El-Sheikh isn't in Europe. It's in Africa.

moggerhanger · 18/08/2025 13:27

Today's temperature in Sharm, according to the Met Office. Think you'll need more than factor 50.

Sharm el Sheikh next july. Am I mad?
Doggymummar · 18/08/2025 13:30

It's a horrible man made place, only good for diving. So if you are into scuba and spend six hours a day under the water it will be great. I did my Padi there on August it was 48 degrees and when not under water or in the classroom I was inside. Noone was out and about, there's nothing else to do there. At all.

CalzoneOnLegs · 18/08/2025 13:34

@Dabberlocks Asia not Africa

Fatsnowflake · 18/08/2025 13:38

CalzoneOnLegs · 18/08/2025 13:34

@Dabberlocks Asia not Africa

I am half Egyptian. It’s in Africa. Next to Sudan, in fact.

CalzoneOnLegs · 18/08/2025 13:42

It IS Asia - look it up if you think I am wrong, Sinai is geographically Asia

Fatsnowflake · 18/08/2025 13:44

I’m not from Sinai. So where I’m from is North Africa. Never been to Sharm though so fine - that’s Asia.

PocketSand · 18/08/2025 16:55

You are quite right - insane heat and just too much. Regardless of how great the hotel is unless you intend to spend the majority of your holiday indoors. Or underwater.

People book for the first time thinking it can’t be that bad and swayed by the cost. They don’t return. But always a new sucker.

Egypt is a fantastic tourist destination. It’s not a beach holiday destination.

SnowflakeSmasher86 · 18/08/2025 18:31

I went with my ex once in May. Sharm was horrid, but we stayed in a lovely hotel and the snorkelling was amazing (apart from the fear of sharks!). Wouldn’t go back. Have been to loads more beautiful places, including Madeira for snorkelling, Goa for beach life and just about anywhere else for culture and food. We did both have upset tummies for the week despite following all precautions and staying at a 5 star resort.

ExitPursuedByABare · 19/08/2025 10:14

I’ve googled. Largely Africa but the Sinai peninsula is in Asia, so it straddles two continents.

Generaltwat · 19/08/2025 10:18

No - a) it’ll be way too hot and b) it’s a shithole

G5000 · 19/08/2025 13:03

what an odd thread.
OP: Should I go to Sharm?
Posters: no
OP: whatever.

CalzoneOnLegs · 19/08/2025 15:01

@Dabberlocks you are wrong a simple google search would establish this ….

While Sharm El Sheikh is located in Egypt, a predominantly African country, it is situated on the Sinai Peninsula, which is geographically considered part of Asia. The Sinai Peninsula is connected to Africa by a land bridge and separated from the rest of Egypt by the Suez Canal, which is the traditional border between Asia and Africa. Therefore, although Sharm El Sheikh is in Egypt, it is located in Asia.

Worked at a conference spending time in fancy 5 star hotels in Sharm once. Its fucking awful. Couldn't pay me to go back, or to Egypt for that matter tbh.
