Two weeks. Insane heat?

Has anyone been in July? Is it enjoyable or just too much. Found a great hotel.

Looking for some personal experience.

Thankyou.

You've exhausted all other European resorts? All of them? Blimey. You must have had more holidays than I've had hot dinners.

By the way, Sharm El-Sheikh isn't in Europe. It's in Africa.

Yeah we go away 3 times a year!

And yes I'm fully aware Egypt is in North Africa.

Apologies for the misunderstanding. I was relaxing on my sunbed in Greece when I replied. Not concentrate properly. Yes, we've exhausted all of the typical European resorts and fancied something different. Hope that's okay with you xoxoxox

Worked at a conference spending time in fancy 5 star hotels in Sharm once. Its fucking awful. Couldn't pay me to go back, or to Egypt for that matter tbh.

I'm in two minds. One minute I think stuff it lets try it. Then I think nope. I just don't know what to think. Guess some people love it and some hate it.

I went with my ex once in May. Sharm was horrid, but we stayed in a lovely hotel and the snorkelling was amazing (apart from the fear of sharks!). Wouldn’t go back. Have been to loads more beautiful places, including Madeira for snorkelling, Goa for beach life and just about anywhere else for culture and food. We did both have upset tummies for the week despite following all precautions and staying at a 5 star resort.

We enjoyed Madeira. It was very relaxing.

You are quite right - insane heat and just too much. Regardless of how great the hotel is unless you intend to spend the majority of your holiday indoors. Or underwater.

People book for the first time thinking it can’t be that bad and swayed by the cost. They don’t return. But always a new sucker.

Egypt is a fantastic tourist destination. It’s not a beach holiday destination.

I checked the weather today. 'real feel' 50 degrees! What on earth. That's ridiculous.

My mum stepdad and sister went a couple of times a few years ago to Sharm, in August (school hols), they all love the heat although stepdad is quite fair and he spent most of his time in the shade - they did enjoy themselves but didn’t do much beyond a quad biking trip outside of the hotel.
There was also a shark bite to one of the hotel guests while my sister stepdad and a few others were in the sea, not fatal but quite a severe injury - this (along with quite a lot of other factors to be perfectly honest) put me off ever wanting to go myself!

It's a shame to hear negative stories. It looks lovely there and I enjoy visiting new places.

I do worry about the hotel food too. What's the point in staying in an amazing hotel if your too poorly with food poisoning to enjoy it.

Alot to think about.

@Dabberlocks you are wrong a simple google search would establish this ….

While Sharm El Sheikh is located in Egypt, a predominantly African country, it is situated on the Sinai Peninsula, which is geographically considered part of Asia. The Sinai Peninsula is connected to Africa by a land bridge and separated from the rest of Egypt by the Suez Canal, which is the traditional border between Asia and Africa. Therefore, although Sharm El Sheikh is in Egypt, it is located in Asia.

I think that perhaps it is up to the good citizens of that place to decide, don't you?

TheLette · 20/08/2025 13:17

I think I went in February one year and got really sunburnt. The sun is intense. I'm fair but don't tend to burn very easily. Rest of the family has Irish skin, I wouldn't risk taking them there we'd all be miserable. The snorkelling there IS incredible but seems like there are too many shark incidents there these days.

Yes, you are mad. I went in June many years ago; it was unbearable hot, we spent a lot of time indoors and in the shade. Don’t remember swimming in the pool or sea much. We were in the Hyatt Regency which was a beautiful hotel.

Greekholiday · 20/08/2025 14:20

Egypt is a place I don’t want to go back to or even take my family despite de history. The person I was with also got ill and was in bed in this beautiful hotel all week; as we did one trip and ate something by the beach. What were we thinking? The food in the hotel was great.

User09835 · 20/08/2025 15:02

Apparently Egypt has one of the lowest return tourism rates in the world. Not surprised at all. From what I've read and seen online, I wouldn't go there even if you paid me.
