Yeah, let's call everything what it is. Let me start:

Frey Bentos Pies - Horse Pies
Fish Fingers - Breaded Fish Scrap Sticks
Milkshake - Sugar & Cow Mucus Slurry.

Absolutely..

Buffalo Wings - wings from a chicken coated in a sauce that originated in Buffalo, USA.

Sausages - ground up meat and fat with rusk and flavourings stuffed into fake intestine skins or real intestines.

Burgers - ground up meat made flat - may or may not contain what it says on the label.

Haggis - offal in a sheeps stomach with spices and flavourings and oatmeal.

Fish fingers - contains no actual fish fingers as fish don't have fingers. Sticks of fish.

It's going to make having conversations and writing menus really convoluted and clunky.

It's bizarre, that people kick off and think they're so very clever to point out that the short hand term 'vegan fish' or 'vegetarian sausage' etc cannot exist, and yet every single day will be consuming things that have a shorthand common name like 'sausage', that everyone understands even if it is when taken literally, a bit misleading...

Shakey Shakey in Ramsgate. But it's a 5 minute walk down to the beach. Not on the main sands.

Beach Buoys in Margate has vegan options but not tofish. Right on the promenade though.

I'm wondering why? What is the point of vegan fish & chips?

DH & me had a small chain of fish & chip shops.

I think that I perhaps we may have offered tofu and chips, but (at this, our busiest time) with 3 fryers on the go & queues going out of the door, I wouldn't have shut off, cleaned out a fryer, put new oil in & heat it up (which would have taken at least 3 hours) just for one portion of tofu. The chips would have been vegan however as only potatoes cooked in veg oil. The mushy peas & pickled onions were also vegan by default.

Can you really not hazard a guess as to the purpose?

Also, why could you not have fried tofu in the chip fryer?

Any U.K. recommendations? Thanks.

Had vegan fish and chips not far from Stackpole.. Not on the beach but a beautiful area.

The fish was battered banana blossom.

If that sounds up your street, feel free to message me and I'll find the exact location of it

What is the point? Because some people are vegan and enjoy vegan fish and chips. And some who are not vegan(Like me) are curious and enjoy trying different things or they are allergic to fish and would enjoy an alternative. It’s really not difficult to understand.

And pulled a face eating a vegan Percy Pig even though they’d been vegan for years but never mentioned it.

Literally zero impact on the stupid twat's life. Tit.

I had vegan chippy on the beach near Weymouth at Easter:

Some seriously ugly humans on this thread. Some people enjoy the substitutes and variety, and want some fun too.

Tried substitutes but it turned out I couldn't stomach them, the same way I can't stomach fish.

murasaki · 12/08/2025 17:24

In what way is it a fish please?

Vegan food is fine, but it's not fish.

Its not fish. Its just what it's called. Hardly a difficult concept for anyone who has presumably already understands that toad in the hole doesn't require an amphibian, pigs in blankets don't involve a woolly coverlet and baked Alaska doesn't mean you need to wrap the 49th state in a soft meringue.

TheBewleySisters · 12/08/2025 18:37

Where on the UK are you?

BackToLurk · 12/08/2025 18:37

I had some at a place on the front at Plymouth. They also did a faux squid. If you have both I think a meat eater implodes with rage.

OonaStubbs · 12/08/2025 18:40

How would vegans feel if they were being served meat that was called vegetables?

You haven't really thought about this have you?

FFS. No one is serving you vegan fish and chips unless you specifically asked for it. And even then you don’t have to eat it!

Ouch! There are some nasty people on here. Why even bother to open a thread about something you're not interested in? Oh yeah, to bully a vegan. Well done. Hope you are pleased with yourselves. I am a full-time carer and I need a break.

For those that suggested No Catch Co, is it within walking distance of a beach you can sit on?

No. Even if it's literally on the pier, you can't sit on Brighton Beach and eat it - if the gulls even think you have food, they will use their natural hunting behaviour and bodyslam into your hand to take if off you.

One of them broke two bones in my hand that way - if I'd been eating, it would have served me right, as it was it just brought home a) what powerful birds they are (even though I've seen them take pigeons out of the sky, I didn't appreciate just how hard they hit when hunting) and b) how stupid people are to feed them.

TheCryingTheBitchAndTheFloordrobe · 12/08/2025 18:44

This thread is wild! Why are people so flipping sneery about vegan food?

Nobody is forcing you to eat vegan if you don't want to, chill tf out, my god what a stupid thing to froth about.

What is vegan fish?

Disgusting.Bleeeeuch.

Chumbawomble · 12/08/2025 18:48

To-fish (tofu) is wonderful but have only found it inland. We live on the N Devon coast and often have pea fritters, pineapple fritters and chips from Atlantic Bay in Westward Ho: heavenly. The Boathouse in Instow and The Seagate in Appledore (both Youngs pubs) do amazing vegan fish, chips, curry sauce and tartare sauce. We've only eaten it on the premises, but both have lovely views of the estuary/coast. And if you time it right you can catch a small ferry between them.

LastKnownSurvivor · 12/08/2025 18:50

Papas do 'Tofish and chips'. I've had their standard fish and chips which were very good, if pricy. There are Papas in various Yorkshire and Lincolnshire resorts.

Nothing against the actual food, just the ridiculous marketing names.

Midnightrain13 · 12/08/2025 18:55

I am always bemused by the sheer number of vegan bashers that come out to play on these threads. It’s like a magnet for the ignorant.

Superfrog3 · 12/08/2025 18:55

Hunstanton have a vegan chippy on the sea front, its like a food truck type chippy but is there all season and even sometimes out of season when we have been.

HauntedHero · 12/08/2025 18:56

I'm allergic to bananas so now have to check with fish and chip shops if they're serving banana blossom. About 50% of the time they look at you as though you've got two heads if you ask whether they use bananas in any form!
