@Onmywayhometonight sorry 🤣 I took laxative that night as I couldn’t cope with the thought of the rogue appalling quality “beef’ being in my system and my friend had scoffed a quarter of my vege hot whilst I was sloshing wine around my mouth to eradicate the film of grease that was in it 🤮 he just laughed at me !

OonaStubbs · 15/08/2025 19:26

What are vegan fish fingers? Surely they are just the same as vegan fingers? I've had veggie fingers before, but I don't think they were vegan.

I am sure vegans would get annoyed if they ate food that was called vegan but wasn't. Or pescatarians if they ate something labelled as fish that actually contained meat. All people are asking for is truthfulness and honesty when it comes to naming foodstuffs.

NoBinturongsHereMate · 15/08/2025 19:42

There are lots of types of vegan fingers. Some fish like, some not.

CalzoneOnLegs · 15/08/2025 19:49

@OonaStubbs it’s all In the thread but Im assuming it is the banana blossom/seaweed ‘vegan’ fish a product to replicate the taste and texture of white fish
If you had veggie fingers they were probably not vegan as possible egg/cheese/dairy in the ingredients.
vegan fingers would be vegan, I find vegan food is always very clear on that whatever name it is marketed under like plant pioneers, plant kitchen etc .

Ahhh truthfulness and honesty. Do you mean like...

Hotdogs
Sweetbreads
Rocky Mountain oysters
Head cheese
Mock turtle soup
Bombay duck
Toad in the hole
Monkey bread
Scotch woodcock
Boston cream pie

If you're ever not sure what a foodstuff is or it has vegan in the name, which can be quite confusing to the meat eater, just look at the ingredients on the packet and as if by magic, you'll know exactly what you are or are not eating.

@AMurderofMurderingCrows thank you for reminding me about Aunt Bessie veggie Toad In the Hole, perfect winter food. I’m off to look up all those food stuffs now not heard of many of them

Oh I probably wouldn't if I were you. Most of them are utterly disgusting.

Enjoy your 🐸 in the 🕳

That sounds bloody amazing. I don't think I'll wait until october, it'll be in my next shop. Thanks for the recommendation ❤️

@AMurderofMurderingCrows top tip when cooking these, once the batter has puffed up flip it over in the foil tray it comes in and cook the underside then it’s all crispy and delish, serve with baked beans and mashed potatoes or vegetables mash and gravy

come on autumn !

Thank you for the tip. I'll be having that with mash potatoes and vegan gravy 🤤

@AMurderofMurderingCrows and some Dijon mustard on the sausages …are we allowed to call them sausages ? 🤣🤣

TheGrimSmile · 15/08/2025 21:29

The cafe on the seafront at Broadsands near Paignton used to do a lovely "fishfinger" bap with tartar sauce. It was delicious. I haven't been for a while though.

TheGrimSmile · 15/08/2025 21:30

Oh yes, it was "No Catch" in Brighton that I saw on the seafront. I think they also did the Vegan Campout and it was lovely.

I make vegetable toad in the hole. It’s amazing. Roast veg like onion, courgette, mushrooms and whatever else you have kicking about. Add batter mix and bake.

Here’s one I made earlier.

Don’t forget that regular red tin bisto is vegan.

CalzoneOnLegs · 15/08/2025 23:20

It’s like a hybrid fritatta/toad - I’m so hungry ! It looks so tasty 🐷

MaMaMalenka · 16/08/2025 17:22

In London, Sutton & Son do a fantastically delicious vegan F&C, I think they use banana blossom.

I’m sure it tastes lovely, but it looks rather burnt!

NoDought · 16/08/2025 19:09

Laura’s in Whitley bay does vegan fish and chips, I think they use banana flower. I had it, can’t say it was my fave but a decent substitute and close to beautiful coast line.

Bobbinette · 16/08/2025 21:56

There’s a great vegan fish and chip place on the front at Hunstanton, Norfolk if you’re over that way. Sorry I’m not sure what it’s called.

Lazydaze123 · 12/08/2025 23:23

Why are the meat eaters so angry? 🤣🤣🤣

Probably malnourished or something. They should just eat some houmous.

I think you might struggle even if you got a vegan substitute most chippies use beef lard to fry in. Which is why they taste so good.

Not any more, most use palm oil for frying. I think most stopped using beef lard ages ago
