OP said she was a Buddhist, not a fucking saint 🙄

The replies to this post would make even the most mild mannered person have murderous thoughts.

😂😂😂

Well you'd think it's not hard to understand that eating is not just about nutrition, it's emotional, cultural and social - it evokes memories of times gone by - special people and events in your life. My sister spent every wedding anniversary with her dh on Bondi beach, eating fish and chips with a bottle of champagne. I'm sure she could have had Prosecco and battered halloumi and chips on a beach in Northumberland and would have still felt like it was the same thing in essence - but who would care either way if not her and her dh? Do you think her family and friends would tell her she was doing it all wrong - that it was completely meaningless, would they ask her what was the point - you'd hope not!

Only on MN do people think it's their place to tell you what you should and shouldn't do, and the thing is, it's becoming increasingly like this, and it's getting really tiresome. The quality of responses on this thread is totally depressing - I hope it's bored kids on the summer holidays because adults should not behave like this.

❤️ came to say the same. It never fails to amaze me that a group of people (who are literally doing the best thing you can to help save the planet) are so ridiculed and vilified. Still....when they out themselves it makes them easier to spot n block.

Esp by mothers who are constantly complaining the state of the planet their kids will inherit.

Who are you to decide who can and cannot comment! I’ll say whatever I like thank you, I don’t need your permission!

So you can say what you like but the person who actually asked the question and has had no end of shit for it can’t use a swear word or she’s not a proper Buddhist.

gruberandassocs · 14/08/2025 16:35

As an accidental banana farmer I really like the idea of using the blossom end, can someone tell me if they use fresh blossoms or, as I have just found out you can get them in cans? Looking at how to process them and not sure if it needs to be brined before use.

The batshit vegan hate on here - go give your heads a wobble. Why do you care so much?

murasaki · 12/08/2025 17:24

In what way is it a fish please?

Vegan food is fine, but it's not fish.

You're really angry about this aren't you? This is like the 3rd post I've seen from you on this one thread....are you genuinely this dull, or are you just being deliberately obtuse? You know perfectly well what "vegan fish" means. Everyone does. And as someone else said earlier, since you don't have to eat it, it really shouldn't bother you.

bit random.....in your rage at posting back to someone, it rather got lost as you neglected to quote who "you" is.

That of course works both ways.

And yet another one that can’t have a discussion without resorting to swearing. 🖐️ maybe research the Buddhist faith, a true Buddhist wouldn’t behave like the OP and why did she say ‘but I’m not allowed to’ odd!

No fucking wonder mate. You and a lot of previous posters on this thread are getting my dander right up.

🙄

There was an amazing vegan fish & chips place on the pier in Hastings years ago, and in a pub in Soho in London, but sadly but they are no more. Following for recommendations

Lyraloo · 14/08/2025 17:07

Oh how terribly sad for you! Clearly you’re very highly strung and don’t know how to have a civilised debate without getting overwhelmed. Bless 😂😂😂

cinnamongirl123 · 14/08/2025 17:10

Hadnt read the full thread - yikes - OP ignore the haters, there seems to be a dedicated contingent of ignorant rude vegan-haters on Mumsnet

and you don’t seem to know how to contribute to a thread, you’ve been deleted and haven’t once answered the OPs question. Maybe try that?

I know what you’re saying but I just find it strange, all the new vegan food that is around that looks, and has the texture of meat? What is that all about? You either want to eat meat or you don’t! If you don’t why would you want something g to look like meat? Genuinely curious!

It's a bit like a dildo: looks the same, fills a hole, is satisfying, and nobody's heart is broken in the process.

Why's it so difficult to grasp that some people might enjoy the taste of meat, without wanting to be responsible for the death of another sentient being?

FracturedRainbowRed · 14/08/2025 18:18

TheVeronicas · 14/08/2025 03:18

So that people who can't eat fish for whatever reason can still indulge in the taste and the 'normal' experience that comes with eating fish and chips, along with everyone else?
It's amazing what one has to explain to (what I assume are) grown adults on here sometimes.

Yes, exactly to all of the above. I think there's a small percentage that just choose to "not understand" 🙄

QuaverQuanta · 14/08/2025 18:19

Funny isn't it, how not one of the omnivores getting their knickers in such a twist over the concept of vegan fish alternative, have been able to genuinely answer the question of exactly why it offends them so much.

So I'm taking that as its their own cognitive dissonance.

Do you need help quoting people? It’s not clear who you are replying to.

Very funny!!🤣 I don’t know why meat eaters feel so threatened by non meat eaters, of all the things to get excited about!😆

Your contributions hardly deserve to be considered 'debate' and you aren't being very civilised. Let's see...

Some silly questions about not being able to understand something because it's not what your daughter does. Now either you're not posting in good faith or you just don't understand enough to participate in a 'debate'.

Try and score points by goading the op about her Buddhism.

OTT condescension.

As a pp said, it's pathetic that adults think this is the way to discuss anything.

OonaStubbs · 14/08/2025 19:14

If OP wants vegan fish, she could go and get a fishing rod and see how long it takes her to catch one.

SilenceInside · 14/08/2025 19:18

@OonaStubbs oh my goodness how hilarious. Did it take you long to think of that? You’ll notice that you’re not even the first person to make that inane comment on this thread. What a pointless post.
