I want to eat vegan fish & chips on the beach

Be curious no longer - some people really like the taste of meat, like nothing more than a good burger but don’t like the idea of munching away on Chloe the Cow, so by eating pretend meat ones they can have a burger and not have to eat Chloe. It’s very simple really! Like people who like the look of Dr Martens, but don’t want the leather- so hey presto we have Vegan Dr Martens.

It’s not about not liking the taste of meat, it’s about not liking killing animals.

I eat meat, so have no ‘skin’ in the game, but it’s really not that difficult to understand.

She didn't "start swearing". She, once, called some ignorant rude posters "ignorant fucks" which seems like an accurate description to me.

You can still eat burgers, sausage etc that fit in a bun but don’t look like meat? My daughter has been a vegetarian since she was eight, when she decided she didn’t want to eat Chloe! She has never ever wanted to eat anything that looked like meat, that’s the part I don’t understand. I get that people like the taste etc of meat but ethically they don’t want to eat it, and good for them, but I didn’t get the part that their diet needs to ‘look’ like meat. It’s not meat, it doesn’t taste like meat, so why bother with making it look almost identical? That’s what I’m asking, not hard to understand!

I've not tried them, but Happy Cow says The Golden Chippy on Greenwich High Road and Brockley's Rock on Brockley Rd both have a separate vegan menu including fish fillets or fish fingers.

They don’t ‘need’ it to look or taste like anything they ‘want’ it to. That’s the point.

The question was where the op could get ‘fish’ and chips but were suitable for vegans. The answers she has got have ranged from the genuinely helpful to blurgh and yuck. She has every reason to be pissed off and being a Buddhist doesn’t mean you can’t swear. Some posters on this thread have behaved like twats and deserve to be pulled up on it.

Because many people turn to vegetarianism or veganism as adults. They need or want something that fills the gaps for all the food they know how to cook and like to eat.
Getting fake mince to make spaghetti bolognaise is a little easier to do until you get used to making it with lentils, for example.

Is that so hard to understand?

I’m genuinely curious as to why so many posters feel the need to be rude when someone asks a question. Don’t know the answer? Why don’t you scroll on by. Why the need to stop for a while and be horrible. Are people this horrible in real life or do they save it up for online when they can hide behind a screen?

Most meat doesn’t look like meat. A burger or sausage is a convenient shape for food. Whether it’s a falafel burger, a bean burger or a faux meat burger. No animal is burger shaped.

A fish finger doesn’t look like a fish, a dinosaur chicken dipper doesn’t look like a chicken. A pork pie doesn’t look like a pig.

I don’t want anything to suffer for me to eat. I don’t disagree that a lot of meat is tasty so why shouldn’t I eat something that tastes like it but nothing died?

Can you honestly not think of a single reason why someone might not want to eat animal products other than because they don't like the look/taste of them? Surely no one is that narrow minded...?

Calling someone who is being a dick, a dick shows an awareness of your thoughts and feelings about that person, whilst speaking with clarity and purpose. Very mindful. 🙏

How judgemental. Clearly the point is that people may enjoy eating it...much the same reason that anyone would chose a specific meal.

There's an amazing chippy near me (Land and Sea in Polmont, Falkirk) that does the most delish vegan 'Vish' & Chips (with 'Ta-Ta' sauce). Absolutely to die for, without anything needing to die for it.

Nah...there's an increasing trend of chippies offering vegan options, fried in separate fryers with veg oil only.

I doubt anywhere that's going to the trouble of providing specifically vegan food would be frying it in lard. Also, there aren't any chippies I'm aware of local to me that fry in beef lard anymore; they're all veg oil based.

If you think that meat is unadulterated you're in for a big shock. Most meat is full of all manner of toxic shit.

@RubieChewsDay Just because something contained all three of those things, it wouldn't be inherently ultra-processed. If I have a cannelloni bean, kale and tofu stew it's not UPF. Whereas a meat sausage almost certainly would be. Also if you're not intending to eat the vegan food which, given your disgust and outrage, I assume you're not, why the hell does it matter to you.

Whereabouts do you live? There are loads near us (yorkshire) that do vegan options :-)

Congratulations to your DD for being the"right" type of veggie.

My son has also been veggie since he was about 8. (Actually he's pescetarian as he eats fish). However he doesnt like bean burgers, lentils/lentil burgers, chickpea burgers/vegetable burgers etc etc. He does love Linda McC pulled pork burgers and mozzarella burgers. Both of which look and taste quite meaty.

Luckily both our DC are catered for within the wider world.

❤️ came to say the same. It never fails to amaze me that a group of people (who are literally doing the best thing you can to help save the planet) are so ridiculed and vilified. Still....when they out themselves it makes them easier to spot n block.
