I am a full-time carer looking for a day out of my 24 hour 7 days a week caring responsibilities. I have one day off. I am a Buddhist hoping to recreate a happy day out at the beach eating ‘fish & chips’ and feeling like myself just for a day. But I’m not allowed that. I can’t even ask for restaurant recommendations with attracting criticism and hate.

Why? Why are people like this?

@FABAdvice people are really horrible. I hope you manage to get your day for you xx There are some genuine recommendations here (mine was in Clevedon) x

PinballWizened · 14/08/2025 06:59

@FABAdvice Not RTFT but lots and lots of St Austell pubs have a lovely banana blossom Fish and chips on their menu. They are all over the south west including lots of seafront locations.

I keep trying to find myself in the vicinity of one that serves the vegan shallot tarte tatin

Wtf is vegan fish! 🤮

Childish comments like this remind me that it is still the school holidays.

Why do people get so outraged by the idea that some people choose not to eat meat or fish, eggs or dairy?

I say that as an omnivore.

It’s not that they’re ‘outraged’ by the idea of Veganism, they don’t really care, but they’re think they’re being funny and fresh by having a dig (a shit dig at that!) at someone who is just asking for recommendations. I mean, Missey knows exactly what Vegan Fish is, but she commented thinking her input into the thread was valuable. It isn’t. It just highlights how stupid she is and also the nasty and unnecessary part of her personality!

Would you consider reading just one of the 18 pages of this thread and educating yourself?

Thankfully there's a company that make delicious meat alternatives with branding that doesn't trigger the easily offended meat eaters 🤣

I want won't get.

That aside, it sounds too silly. Perhaps bring a carrot to and some chick peas to nibble on?

Is it the image of fish and chips you're after? As in that's what "one does" at the seaside? Or is it for insta? I don't get it. There must be some very nice fresh vegan foods, why fake the foods you have absconded from?

Sounds like you want your vegan cake and eat it.

Wow, you couldn’t just stick to one dickish sentence, you had to keep going.

Does eating meat destroy people's brain cells or something? Why don't you read one of the previous 17 pages of replies?

Eating too much fish can increase the levels of mercury in your body. You might be onto something there.

This isn’t bad but for me personally it’s the batter I miss. It’s hard to get stuff in batter.

Well thank you so much for you helpful input there. It’s really helped the op sort out a treat for her on a day out. So glad you came along to give your carefully thought out advice and support. Do remind me to do the same for you the next time you ask for help with a meat dish which involves eating the rotting corpses of dead animals.

Imagine having such little imagination that your only contribution to a thread is ‘yuck’. No wonder you’re bored.

You’ve had some pretty silly, some clueless and quite a few rude replies, when you get your laughs from poking fun at someone, what does that make you? A bully maybe?

Hopefully some helpful recommendations for a lovely bite to eat on your day out.

I think you might struggle even if you got a vegan substitute most chippies use beef lard to fry in. Which is why they taste so good.

Most chippies fry in vegetable oil now, however, most will fry the battered fish, sausages etc in the same oil. Best to ask at each establishment before ordering.

Bjorkdidit · 14/08/2025 08:57

The fat used in regional. Almost none in Yorkshire use anything except beef dripping, which is why our fish and chips are so good.

CalzoneOnLegs · 14/08/2025 09:09

@ChompandaGrazia there is a pub locally that does wonderful food, inc lots of Veg/Vegan dishes, they do the most wonderful battered courgette ‘chips’. I have only ever tasted better in Greece and that’s by a small margin. I love batter when it’s light and crisp and done properly ❤️

I know what you’re saying but I just find it strange, all the new vegan food that is around that looks, and has the texture of meat? What is that all about? You either want to eat meat or you don’t! If you don’t why would you want something g to look like meat? Genuinely curious!

Lyraloo · 14/08/2025 09:14

Maybe something to do with your general attitude, you seem awfully angry for a Buddhist!

SilenceInside · 14/08/2025 09:16

@Lyraloo if you were genuinely curious you could have read the thread where it’s been explained many times over. Also, wtf is with giving the OP a kicking?? Did you miss the bit where she is a full time carer and just wanted advice on a nice day out? Why have a pop at her? Makes you look like a bully.

Perhaps she’s pissed off because people keep turning up with rude comments.

New vegan food? Vegetarian sausages like Linda McCartney ones have been around for decades. It’s hardly a new concept.

Lyraloo · 14/08/2025 09:36

Maybe she is but it doesn’t excuse swearing etc. not a very Buddhist attitude!

No Catch Vegan Fish and Chips on Brighton seafront :)

My daughter is a vegetarian and yes thinks like veggie sausages have been around since she was little, but they look and taste nothing like real sausages. Im Talking about the new stuff that a looks exactly like meat, the texture etc is the same.

I’d ’have a pop’ as you put it, at anyone that starts and thread, and because they don’t like the answers, start swearing. There’s no need for it. That doesn’t make me a bully! Is it making you a bully picking on me ? No of course not. The bullying tag is used far too much these days, people suffer real bullying, don’t reduce their experience to compete with a comment on a post. I know she’s a career, she’s not on her own, but that doesn’t excuse bad language and nastiness because you don’t agree with someone! Calling someone out for swearing is Not bullying!
