Here's a thought, why not promote the vegan product for what it is, celebrate it, give it it's own identity and not conflate it with something it isn't or never will be.

A vegan wouldn't eat fish, so why Identify the vegan ingredient with it ? That doesn't seem to me to align with veganism at all.

Let the Banana Blossom stand proud in all its battered fruity glory I say :-)

Because people don't go to the seaside for 'banana blossom and chips'... they go for 'fish and chips'... even if what they're actually going to order is battered sausage, or a pea fritter etc.
Also the op didn't specify what sort of vegan fish alternative she wanted... she just wanted some vegan fish and chips (a request that most people seem to understand)

I want won't get.

That aside, it sounds too silly. Perhaps bring a carrot to and some chick peas to nibble on?

Is it the image of fish and chips you're after? As in that's what "one does" at the seaside? Or is it for insta? I don't get it. There must be some very nice fresh vegan foods, why fake the foods you have absconded from?

Sounds like you want your vegan cake and eat it.

Many vegans like the taste of non vegan foods.
They just prefer to eat it without anyone dying.
Simple.

HazeyjaneIII · 13/08/2025 22:02

Have I landed on another planet, where the concept of going for fish and chips as an umbrella term for going to the chippy, is a completely alien concept?

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 13/08/2025 22:02

DeLaRuiz · 12/08/2025 17:10

What is fake fish made from then? Is it a UPF?

Yes, but being vegan is SO much healthier.... 🙄

I think I'll reclassify my spaghetti bolognaise as a salad, it's about as accurate.

I make my spag bol just like you do, only with soya mince. It's delicious and non vegans i feed it to think so too. I really don't miss the gristle or oil or stench of death.

Who is eating fish and chips for the health benefits!

Yes, but being vegan is SO much healthier.... 🙄

Plenty of studies would say it is.

But look at the isles full of UPF that contain meat/ fish and other animal products….. just because something is vegan doesn’t automatically equate to it being healthy but neither does something being meat based mean it’s a healthy option.

What is actually wrong with Banana Blossom and chips that it can't be marketed as such ?

What the hell is the point in vegan?👹

And other people’s dietary choices bother you because?

CalzoneOnLegs · 13/08/2025 22:10

@Trovindia like ‘sweet breads’ 🤮

SeptaUnellasBell · 13/08/2025 22:11

Oh for fuck sake. OP knows that vegan fish isn’t fish. And so do you faux confused idiots. It’s just a very simple name for something slightly resembling real fish and chips. Good god, you knew exactly what she meant but as per usual the hard of thinking, hard of empathy and just the usual argumentative bores are set off by a simple name. Get a fucking grip.

That was 2021 tho so with double checking before you go

sleepybuthappy · 13/08/2025 22:16

Wow I've only read the first 2 pages of responses but there is so many pathetic deliberately 'baffled' responses here! Its so straightforward - many vegans and vegetarians love the taste of meat and fish but hate the cruelty or environmental impact and so seek meat and fish free dupes. Why is that so confusing? Wtf does it matter to people if its referred to as vegan fish? Of course it's not fish! The "vegan" in front of the word is the clue. Just like "alcohol free" wine. I cant stand the whole "i just don't know why these vegans have to use the word burger/fish/sausages". It is because they want to eat something similar to burgers/fish/sausages that isn't dead. So simple.

ChompandaGrazia · 13/08/2025 22:16

And as I’ve already said, I hope all the people who can’t cope with vegan things existing and having meaty names never eat Walkers* bacon or chicken crisps - which are both vegetarian and I think vegan.

*other brands are available but I don’t know if they contain meat.

Mamadothehump · 13/08/2025 22:21

‘Vegan fish’, ‘vegan chicken’, ‘vegan sausage’
Fuck off and get your own name for it!!

The post you're replying to explained quite clearly why 'fish n chips' has a resonance banana blossom and chips just doesn't have. Or saveloy and chips. Or two fish cakes and chips. It's almost like people don't really want to understand, just keep making the same unoriginal comments over and over.

It's not SOOO wrong for it to be marketed as banana blossom and chips, but nobody except people who are never going to eat it is clamouring for a name change. You seem determined to fix a problem that just isn't there.

I honestly can't believe we're onto another evening of people mulishly repeating 'But it isn't fish. Fish isn't vegan. Why can't they call it something else?'

ChompandaGrazia · 13/08/2025 22:25

Mamadothehump · 13/08/2025 22:21

Why does is bother you?

How do you feel about bacon crisps?

Tbf I don’t think they’re ‘faux’ idiots, I’m pretty sure they’re the real thing 🤣.
The insane triggering on this thread has been marvellous. Keep it up.

Why?
Why does it make you angry?

FABAdvice · 13/08/2025 22:35

I am a full-time carer looking for a day out of my 24 hour 7 days a week caring responsibilities. I have one day off. I am a Buddhist hoping to recreate a happy day out at the beach eating ‘fish & chips’ and feeling like myself just for a day. But I’m not allowed that. I can’t even ask for restaurant recommendations with attracting criticism and hate.

Why? Why are people like this?

But lots of people don't go for fish... they go for battered sausage or chicken or pea fritter or a pie... but I bet they all say, 'hey when we go to the seaside next week let's have fish and chips' or, 'I can't be arsed to cook tonight, let's go to the fish and chip shop'
But hey, if you think it would be better to say, 'hey let's go for sausage/nuggets/fish/halloumi/banana blossom and chips' then crack on.
They market it as banana blossom 'fish' and chips, because it is emulating the fish part of fish and chips. Pretty clever marketing imo.

RubieChewsDay · 13/08/2025 22:42

Surely even vegan's want to know what they're choosing when looking at a menu? Is criteria of it being 'not fish' but vaguely in either the shape or texture of a fish enough to make you want to eat something.
