Barbados vs Cornwall

targales · 26/04/2025 09:27

We want to go away for a week in June. Have added up the costs of various holiday destinations.

Found some really cheap flights to Barbados that work (£300!). Travel for us to get to Cornwall would be about £300 each too.

A nice cottage in Cornwall is about £1200 for a week, and we have found something similar in Barbados for £1300.

So what would you do? June is not ideal for Barbados but then equally it could pish down all week in Cornwall.

There isn’t much difference in travelling time from mine to Cornwall vs Barbados so Barbados wins for me.
There is a chance of rain at both but one of them is going to be a lot warmer 😎

Totally agree, and the last time we drove to Cornwall we could have flown to Barbados in a similar time

TariffandTrade · 04/05/2025 20:18

Neither, but if it had to be one, it would have to be Cornwall.

I hate flying so no way I would fly that far for one week.

LOL is this a trick question? 😆

Who would choose Cornwall over Barbados? 😂

Lots of people judging by replies

Jesus - I'd be in Barbados in a flash . Been many times and I love it .

Cornwall ... meh comparatively

MNChiefInspectorThreadPolice · 04/05/2025 21:08

April to November is the rainy season in Barbados. Some would say the hurricane season, but the fact that Barbados is so far east means that they very rarely are affected.

With flights that cheap, I’d definitely choose Barbados over Cornwall. Even if it rains, it will be consistently warmer than Cornwall will be.

PhilosophicalCheeseSandwich · 04/05/2025 21:16

Barbados, without question. Nothing would convince me to spend a lot of money on a week in Cornwall and miss the chance to see somewhere exotic.

CountryQueen · 04/05/2025 21:29

I mean, neither. I’d be heading to Corsica, Italy or Greece. Definitely not bloody Cornwall

HelpMeGetThrough · 04/05/2025 21:47

Barbados for sure.

weather will more than likely be shit in Cornwall and Cornwall is a bit shit too.

MoreChocPls · 05/05/2025 07:33

Barbados. Took less than a millisecond to decide!!

Letshavetea1 · 05/05/2025 08:16

Fgs, Barbados every time. It’s fantastic. It’ll be humid in June, but I’d far rather be there than anywhere else! Can’t wait for my next trip next March. Where is the accommodation you’ve seen?

MNChiefInspectorThreadPolice · 05/05/2025 08:20

Just to add - we had a week in an AirBnB in Barbados last March. Small condo, but with access to nearby beach club - pool and loungers, with a bar, right on the beach. For £579 for 7 nights.

crockofshite · 05/05/2025 08:23

What would you DO in Barbados?

TumbledTussocks · 05/05/2025 08:23

I gather the locals are far more welcoming in Barbados than Cornwall. Mind you I think Royston Vasey is also fractionally more welcoming than Cornwall and I love that part of the world.

The weather could be wet in either but only one is guaranteed to be warm.

Can you ping me the details please ? Wonder if it's where I stayed but always interested in other options

I'm in Greece now - and wouldn't fancy being here in peak season will be heaving ! It's gorgeous and empty right now 😆

It took us nine hours to get to Cornwall last summer, a journey that takes about 5 hours in the off-season. DH worked out that we could have reached Barbados, door to door, in about the same time and vowed never to go to Cornwall again. The return journey also took 9 hours and the weather was crap all week.

Yes....we live in London... haven't been to Cornwall since I was a child and would absolutely love to go again...but honestly it's quicker for me to fly to Spain!

MNChiefInspectorThreadPolice · 05/05/2025 13:29

@namestevalian it was in Holetown, on Flamboyant Avenue - part of the Suncrest estate (or Golden Crest - can’t remember which, but they mostly look the same!)

Apologies for not sending you a PM, but if I do that, it will come from my other username, which I don’t want to reveal!

I live in Cornwall!! I would be on that plane!!

Same 🤣 I mean, I love living in Cornwall but surely there's no contest 🤣

PrincessOfPreschool · 05/05/2025 14:10

Part of the attraction of flying long haul is that the plane is part of the holiday! I love it and for my teenagers, seeing how many movies they can squish into the flight is the most important factor! However, don't like long stopovers so if this 300.00 flight involves a 21 hour wait somewhere then definitely not.

Got it thanks! Ah yes we used that beach club too think the property is on the same road . Great area

MNChiefInspectorThreadPolice · 05/05/2025 16:55

I can highly recommend the owners of that AirBnB as well @namestevalian - they were so helpful. Arranged a car to pick us up from the airport, took us to Massey’s to do a shop and waited for us, then took us to the condo. Also organised a car back to the airport when we moved on, and organised a hire car for us too. They were so welcoming.

Aligirlbear · 05/05/2025 20:39

Barbados in June is the beginning of the rainy season. Might get lucky / might not ! Food shopping in Barbados is expensive and eating out can also be expensive - more so than UK so living expenses will be more than in UK

garlictwist · 07/05/2025 19:41

Cornwall is like a ten hour drive from where I live so I’d probably be tempted by Barbados…

Midnightlove · 07/05/2025 19:51

I actually don't fancy Barbados much, I'd probably take it over Cornwall though! Or a 3rd option of a week somewhere warm but in Europe, I'm sure you can get to many places for 300 pound flights
