What have we missed out in Rome?

Currently in Rome (having a fab time I might add!). We have one more full day before coming home on Friday and have checked off our planned itinerary sooner than planned. We've done the Vatican, the Pantheon, the Colosseum and Forum, the Castel Sant'Angelo, the Spanish Steps, the Trevi Fountain, Piazza Navona, and numerous churches (annoyingly I haven't been keeping track...). We're staying in the Trastevere and have had pizza, pasta, tiramisu, gelato and plenty of espresso, wine and Aperol spritz. We both love art, history, food and wine. What have I missed out? Preferably something we can do tomorrow without needing to have booked weeks in advance .

Galleria Borghese (tho you usually need to book).
Going to the top of the Vittorio Emmanuele monument.
San ignazio church, with the trompe l'oeil ceiling.
Capitoline Museum.
Ara Pacis.
Santa Maria (del Popolo?) with the Caravaggio paintings.
Cafe Greco in Via Condotti.
Jewish Quarter.
Campo dei Fiori.

And all of the things mentioned in previous posts.....

You can go to Rome every week for 50 years, and still not see it all!

Following as hoping to have a week in Rome next autumn. Can you tell me where you're staying and would you recommend it?

The catacombs are cool

A trip out to Hadrian's Villa.

@willowtree66 highly recommend Trastevere as an area to stay. It's more of a local area (not near all the tourist traps) but a beautiful and vibrant area still walkable to everything !

Apparently you can visit the amphitheatre excavations below Piazza Navona

The keyhole door? And the collosus statue! Can't remember where keyhole was, took a while to walk there but was lovely and the collosus statue was amazing

There is a cat sanctuary and you can see all the cats wandering round ruins

We were in the Ponte area. All small streets with no real traffic. Some lovely little backstreet places for pizza and ice cream. 10 minutes walk from Piaaza Navona I think.

I'm too late but for anyone else reading looking for ideas, I would 100% recommend Ostia antica and also catacombs. We walked to catacombs when we went but it was a fairly long walk. Ostia antica was a train ride away. Both really memorable.

Wow thank you all so much. I feel like we need to plan another trip now we have so many recommendations!

We ended up going to the Basilica of San Clemente - an absolutely amazing recommendation if anyone planning a trip is reading this thread. We also went to The Basilica of San Pietro in Vincoli, the Basilica of San Maria Maggiore and to the baths of Caracalla off this thread. All were absolutely brilliant, I’m definitely going to use mumsnet for travel recommendations again.

Oh man! We stayed so close to the Basilica San Clemente but it was closed when I walked past and I didn’t get the chance to go back (or more accurately, forgot!). This has just reminded me 🤣
