What have we missed out in Rome?

Currently in Rome (having a fab time I might add!). We have one more full day before coming home on Friday and have checked off our planned itinerary sooner than planned. We've done the Vatican, the Pantheon, the Colosseum and Forum, the Castel Sant'Angelo, the Spanish Steps, the Trevi Fountain, Piazza Navona, and numerous churches (annoyingly I haven't been keeping track...). We're staying in the Trastevere and have had pizza, pasta, tiramisu, gelato and plenty of espresso, wine and Aperol spritz. We both love art, history, food and wine. What have I missed out? Preferably something we can do tomorrow without needing to have booked weeks in advance Grin.

Villa Farnesina to see the Raphael.
I’m pretty sure it’s in Trastavere.

Another vote for Capuchin catacombs

Did you go to the Keats museum when you went to the Spanish steps?

Turophilic · 15/01/2025 15:44

What do you like?
The Capuchin crypt with the bones for the goths among us, the Borghese gallery for sculpture, Castell Sant’Angelo for more history , Villa Farnesina for paintings and gardens, or just hanging around enjoying watching the world go by in any of the piazzas?

I would book the coach trip to Villa Adriana and Tivoli gardens
The villa built by the Emperor Hadrian is fascinating and so is he. I've been twice and will be walking his wall this summer

Hannahthepink · 15/01/2025 15:48

My favourite thing that I did there was a daytrip to Ostia Antica. So interesting and really peaceful to wander around.

Whydoeseveryonewanttoargue · 15/01/2025 15:50

Victory monument. Amazing views of the city where you can see all the sites from one place.

Sasskitty · 15/01/2025 15:50

Piccolo Buca for one last perfect pizza
Just up from the Trevi fountain. Can’t book

ShowAndGo · 15/01/2025 15:50

DH and I loved the Domus Aurea with the VR headsets! I'm a boring Classics geek and his interest more or less stops at Gladiator, but even he was transfixed.

MandSCrisps · 15/01/2025 15:51

Tivoli and The Villa d'Este. I know it’s a trek by train but I have fond memories of going. The gardens are great fun and the town was lovely (or it was when I went).

Palazzo Doria Pamphilj
Palazzo Barberini

I just googled really. But I love Rome and would just wander about, eat gelato and find a lovely cafe.

Palazzo Pamphili is absolutely amazing.

Starlight1984 · 15/01/2025 15:53

Another vote for Borghese gardens!

Arlanymor · 15/01/2025 15:55

This is what I would do: https://www.italia.it/en/lazio/rome/things-to-do/caravaggio-paintings-in-rome

LIZS · 15/01/2025 16:00

Baths of Caracella, Appian way, take train to Ostia Antica, Palatine museum

Sunnnybunny72 · 15/01/2025 16:02

The Baths of Caracalla

DancefloorAcrobatics · 15/01/2025 16:02

The Etruscan museum! It's a lovely quiet place- unless you walk into hordes of school children!

Well worth a visit that will give you an idea about the culture & settlements of pre roman times....

The basilica de san Clemente is a real hidden gem.

StanfreyPock · 15/01/2025 16:09

Somewhere a bit different, If you are interested in film and particularly Italian film, is Cinecitta, the film studios where you can see sets from various famous movies and series - think reconstruction of the Forum etc - plus exhibitions and a great visitor experience.

You can get there on the Metro, stops right outside, but probably need to book Cinecitta tickets online. We spent a whole day there and enjoyed an excellent lunch in the cafe!

ShowAndGo · 15/01/2025 16:12

This is making me want to book a flight to Rome...

Bideshi · 15/01/2025 16:17

The Barberini. Caravaggio's 'Judith and Holofernes' and Raphael's saucy portrait of his girlfriend 'La Fornarina.' Really quiet too.
Or anywhere really...need to get back there.

wineymummy · 15/01/2025 16:22

Botanical gardens in Travastere. We went in January last year and still plenty to see, great views. We didn't leave enough time so rushed it before we had to leave for our flight.

Not in Rome, but a short journey away by train, Ostia Antica is worth a trip IMO

Definitely worth the trip. It's fascinating

QueSyrahSyrah · 15/01/2025 16:24

If you've got some spends to spare and they can take a last minute booking the Vespa sidecar tour of Rome is one of the best things we've ever done on holiday.

Toddlerteaplease · 15/01/2025 16:25

The Scavi tour under St Peter's is good. As is a Segway tour that takes you to look through a key hole, with a magnificent view of Rome.

Toddlerteaplease · 15/01/2025 16:25

If you like art deco. The square coliseum is worth a look.
