Friends didn't tell us they upgraded their flight

Travelling with some friends and feeling slightly peeved. We all booked tickets together in economy. Usually DP and I go Premium or Biz but we thought it would be nice for us all to travel together.

Friends have upgraded their flight to Premium and there are now no upgrades left to buy. So we are stuck in economy.

Did you say you hadn't upgraded so you could all be together?

Did the original plan include reserved seats all next to each other? If not, is it going to be that much different being 20 rows apart in separate classes, compared to 10 rows apart in the same class? How much time “together” do 2 groups spend on a flight anyway?

Did you discuss sitting together when discussing and sorting out booking the holiday together?

No, that's what you booked. You could have upgraded too.

You can’t really travel/ hang out in a group anyway on a flight. I don’t think it’s really a big deal. They did what suited them.

That's a dicky thing to say. I only ever fly business or first class on long haul flights and am on a normal salary. Some people spend their money on different things.

Yeah, I'd be pretty pissed off about this! Did you all discuss it first and decide to book economy so you could sit together? I'd be very annoyed if so - is it possible to change your flight? If you call the airline they might be happy to help, if there are no seats left in either premium or business it may be overbooked and they'll possibly be happy to move you to a quieter one.

I'd be annoyed at that too, especially as you purposely didn't book better seats so you could be together.

I fly Business (short haul) to avoid unnecessary discomfort and people.
