Morocco with less than 3 months on the passport

My son flies to Morocco tomorrow. It's his first holiday as an adult without us (he's 19). He's planned and paid for it all but has messed up the dates on his Passport. He needs at least 3 months on it but is 5 days short of this. Has anyone else travelled without the required amount of time left on their passport.
I'm gutted for him. He's worked hard to pay for it and has organized everything else himself.
TIA

i would not risk being stranded in morroco tbh

tuliplav · 12/04/2024 14:42

i feel for him. would be so disappointed for my teen son if this happened to

Sweetpea333 · 12/04/2024 14:43

Remember you have to have your boarding pass printed out for Morocco.

For flights to Morocco, everyone has to have their passport stamped at check in, even if they only have carry on luggage. It’s at this point that problems with his passport should be picked up.

mumnosbest · 12/04/2024 15:11

He has more than 2 months left 3 months and 24 days. He says he's just going to go and see what happens but I'm dreading a phone call saying he's stranded in Morocco. Surely they'll stop him in Manchester if he hasn't got long enough. I'm so stressed for him

Is this a maroon or a navy passport? Is maroon, when was it issues? You may find is has already expired

thesleepyhoglet · 12/04/2024 15:13

And if he doesn't have enough, he won't be stranded, he just won't be allowed to travel.

WonderingWanda · 12/04/2024 15:16

I would suggest helping him try and get an emergency passport appointment and trying to book a flight for a few days time to try and salvage the holiday.

Not for a 19 year old, there's no way it can have been issued more than 10 years ago

He might as well give it a go if everything's been paid for and can't be refunded

Morocco isn’t in the EU and has no 10 year rule like the EU. If it’s valid, it’s valid.

shoppingshamed · 12/04/2024 15:19

Different country so obviously not to be taken as any kind of sign but just so you know iit is possible

Despite the absolute certainty of lots of posters that they wouldn't get on the plane, it was fine

Morocco requires you to have three months validity from the date of entry. Airlines don’t want the hassle of having him turned away in Morocco and then having to fly him back so it’s unlikely they will let him board.

LIZS · 12/04/2024 15:35

www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/morocco/entry-requirements 3 months on entry.

I would try this too tbh. He doesn't really have any other option but he needs to be prepared They will allow him back into Britain without any issue.

mumnosbest · 12/04/2024 16:06

Thanks all. It is a maroon passport and runs out in 85 days. He checked the date but read July 24 as 24th of July not July 2024 so he's just short. I think his only option is to go and try. He will loose the holiday anyway otherwise. It's only 5 days away so he can't get a passport and go later.
It's not the cost but the excitement. I feel so bad for him and am keeping everything crossed that they let him through. I could throttle him!

My sister tried to go to Paris on a maroon passport which said it expired in August and she was going the previous January. In fact it actually expired January as it was a maroon one so the date of expiry was not the actual date! Basically on a maroon passport the expiry is 10 years from the date of issue but another poster said this doesn't apply if visiting a non EU country.

Actually he could. He could use the 1 day premium service. My son done this recently when he went to Rome and his passport had expired.

thesleepyhoglet · 12/04/2024 16:11

OP when was his passport issued? As is it burgundy?

thesleepyhoglet · 12/04/2024 16:12

Is he flying tomorrow or 5 days? If 5 days get a premium urgent passport renewal service

mumnosbest · 12/04/2024 16:28

He flies tomorrow lunchtime. It was issued on 8th July 2019. Ryan air customer services said he should be fine as he has a hotel and return flight booked.

mumnosbest · 12/04/2024 16:47

I'll let you know how he gets on. Going to go and make sure everything else is sorted. Thanks for all of your advice 🤞

are you sure they said this?
because i highly highly highly doubt that ryanair would have said that regarding passports

i am guessing your son told you ryanair said this?
